Chapter 79 William Has A Hundred Billion Dollars?

It was simply too unreasonable. After all, he was a son-in-law coming to visit, bringing gifts.

Margaret tossed everything William was holding right at the doorstep, angrily shouting at him. "William, if you're any kind of man, don't set foot in my house again. I have nothing to do with you, and we do not welcome a good-for-nothing like you as a guest."

Margaret was already fretting over Matthew's situation, so naturally, she couldn't be happy to see this waste standing at her doorstep.

Did he think that a few boxes of gifts would be enough to enter the Smith family's good graces?

Dream on!

Mary was quite troubled and did not expect her own mother to be so unreasonable. She said with a cold face, "Mom, what are you doing? William came specifically to talk to you."

Saying so, Mary turned around, picked up the things, and led William to sit down inside the house.

Margaret couldn't keep blocking them, so she had to let it be, but as she sat down, she didn't give William a good look, commanding and scolding him with a tilted eye. "Sitting here as if someone in the house has died, don't you find it embarrassing?"

Hearing this, William felt a twinge in his heart, his fists clenched slightly, and his facial expression turned a bit colder.

However, Margaret was oblivious to this, still ranting. "Mary, what are you doing bringing this waste to our house? I have nothing to discuss with him. Either divorce him or cut ties with me and Tyler. There are only two paths for you, choose for yourself."

Margaret's brashness and arrogance were not new.

Mary felt helpless; after all, this was the mother who had raised her, and naturally, she couldn't quarrel with her.

"Mom, can't you just listen to what we have to say?" Mary sat beside William, her face full of distress.

When would her mother be able to sit down calmly with William? Even if William had no money or power, there was no need to target him like this. After all, he was her son-in-law.

Margaret turned her head away, her face clearly showing she didn't want to talk. "What's there to talk about with either of you? Tyler and I have already discussed it. It's either you get a divorce or leave, and we don't want the child either. We will give William five hundred thousand dollars. And you can cut all ties with him and that illegitimate child."

Margaret was annoyed just thinking about her daughter being saddled with a burden. Her head ached. Her daughter was meant to marry into wealth, and she couldn't be looked down upon just because she had an illegitimate child.

Therefore, the Smiths absolutely could not take this child.

It would be better to give some money to William as child support. Surely William, being as poor as he was, would agree. After all, it was five hundred thousand dollars. When had he ever seen so much money?

Mary and William's faces turned very ugly when they heard Margaret say this.

They had really intended to have a proper talk, but Margaret's attitude was far from friendly.

Seeing this, William didn't delay any further and took out a card from his pocket, placing it on the coffee table.

This action startled Margaret.

Was that a bank card?

What was William, this good-for-nothing, doing with a bank card?

Could there actually be money in it?

"Margaret, there's a hundred billion dollars in this card. It's all I've saved up over the years. It's not much, and you might not think much of it, but it's a little token of my respect for you and Tyler. Feel free to buy whatever you want with it," William said with a smile.

This was a card he had prepared not long ago, with a hundred billion dollars in it, just for emergencies.

Hearing William say this, Margaret immediately scoffed. "William, are you trying to fool me? You've saved a hundred billion dollars? If you had that money, why would you borrow money? Don't think I don't know, you even borrowed a few thousand from Nancy, it's so embarrassing, you've lost all dignity for Tyler and me!"

Margaret was itching with hatred when she mentioned this.

If it weren't for her sister telling her, she would still be in the dark.

Mary hurried to explain for William. "Margaret, why can't you believe William? This card really is his savings, and it's his way of showing filial piety to you and dad. Just accept it."

Saying so, Mary pushed the card toward Margaret.

Margaret looked at the card, very puzzled. It would be a miracle if William had a hundred billion dollars!

But since it was given by William, she had no reason not to accept it. Picking up the card casually, Margaret arrogantly said, "This money should have been offered to your father and me a long time ago. Have you seen what William has bought for us in the past three years? What gifts has he sent? If there really is a hundred billion dollars in this card, it's still far from making up for the deficit of the past three years."

After taking the card, Margaret still felt as if it was rightfully hers.

However, now that she had taken the money, it seemed a bit embarrassing to scold William further, so Margaret selectively ignored it.

The atmosphere in the living room was very heavy.

The TV started broadcasting news about Matthew again.

Seeing this, Margaret immediately pointed at it and asked Mary. "Mary, do you see Matthew has been arrested? Do you know about this?"

Mary turned to look at the news, and the content shocked her! Matthew was actually arrested!

How could this happen so suddenly?

Wait a minute! That day, at the Alinea restaurant, Matthew had a conflict with William.

It seemed that since that day, there was no news of Matthew. It was also that day when William revealed his secret to Mary.

Mary turned back, staring straight at William, and asked, "Did you do it?"

William immediately shook his head, calmly replying. "How could it be me? How could I possibly have that kind of power? You're overthinking it."

That was a close call!

Luckily, Matthew was taken away from the back door that day.

Mary's brows furrowed slightly. She naturally didn't think William had that kind of power.

At this time, Margaret, hearing this nonsensical conversation between Mary and William, raised her eyebrows and stared at William, demanding, "Does this have something to do with you?"

Mary knew that if she told Margaret about what happened at the restaurant that day, she would cling to William like a mad dog, and might even force them to divorce again.

"Margaret, stop being so harsh on William. This has nothing to do with him," Mary said.

"It better not, or I'll be the first to kick him out of the house!"

Margaret glared fiercely at William, then looked worriedly at Tyler. "Tyler, can you please help find out what happened to Matthew? Is it serious?"

Tyler sighed helplessly. "Alright, I'll have someone ask about it tomorrow."

"What do you mean tomorrow? Ask now," Margaret commanded.

This scene, witnessed by William and Mary, was very unpleasant.

Margaret had never been so concerned about her son-in-law as she was about Matthew.

After sitting for a while, William and Mary left. They really couldn't stay any longer; Margaret simply didn't want to deal with William.

After William and Mary had left, Margaret pestered Tyler to find out about Matthew's situation.
After getting a response, Margaret hurriedly grabbed her purse and headed out the door.

She wanted to see Matthew and had taken the family passbook, planning to withdraw some money to grease some palms.

If William knew about this, he could probably only laugh it off.

Dealing with a mother-in-law whose elbows turned outward was truly bad luck.

At the bank, Margaret took out the passbook, ready to withdraw money, but then she suddenly remembered the card William had given her.

After a thought, Margaret immediately rummaged through her purse and took out the bank card.

She inserted it into the ATM, clueless about the password.

She called Mary. "Mary, what's the password for William's card?"

Not feeling the slightest bit ashamed, she even felt it was her due right.

Mary, shopping with William at the supermarket, asked him and replied. "Your birthday."

The call was hung up.

Mary looked puzzled and shrugged helplessly to William. "I think my mom's at the bank checking how much money is in the card."

"Don't worry, there's a hundred billion dollars in the card," William said with a smile.

Mary pouted, her arms crossed, looking curiously at William. "William, tell me, how much money do you really have? Last time you told me you had a card with over a million dollars?"

William scratched his head and took out another card from his pocket. "The rest is all in here. It's what I secretly took with me when I ran away from home years ago. Do you want to go to the bank to check it out?"

Mary snatched the card and held it in her hand, smiling slyly. "I really do want to go check."

William smiled, his gaze falling on the card in Mary's hand, when suddenly his eyes narrowed in shock. "Damn! Wrong card!"

This was a big mistake!

He had given the wrong cards!

The card in Mary's hand was the one with a hundred billion dollars, the one given to Margaret had a hundred billion dollars in it!

It was the card George gave him last time!

"It's all over!"

Without bothering to check out, William pulled Mary and rushed out. "We're in trouble, let's go find Margaret quickly!"

Meanwhile, Margaret, feeling pleased with herself, inserted the card into the ATM, entered her own birthday, and checked the balance.

"This kid does have money in his card. Let me count how much."

"A hundred billion dollars! A hundred billion dollars!"
