Chapter 196 Is It Really William?
Mary was taken aback, her whole body tensed up. It was Mr. Jones again.
'Who exactly is he, and why does he keep helping me?' Mary thought.
At this moment, a group of people entered the hall, looking very impressive. Leading them was a middle-aged man with a beer belly and a rosy complexion, greeting various entrepreneurs from Lindwood City.
It was Kyle Hayes from the Hayes Group, a big name in Lindwood City's real estate.
Kyle's appearance became a small highlight of the banquet, and many people moved over to greet him.
As Dylan saw Kyle walk in, his face darkened. He said to his assistant, "Go, bring Kyle over here."
Dylan was very angry. Kyle and Isaac dared to take credit for William's achievement, almost causing Mary to misunderstand it.
Kyle was busy greeting everyone when a man in a suit ran up to him and said, "Mr. Hayes, Mr. Brooks wants to see you."
"Mr. Brooks?" Kyle was taken aback and hurried over, not bothering to greet anyone else.
"Mr. Brooks, it's an honor to finally meet you." Kyle greeted. He had been navigating the real estate circle for years and he knew how to make a good impression.
Dylan was the chairman of the Jones Group, a spokesperson for Mr. Jones. He had also been navigating the Jones family for many years, holding a high position and many connections.
If Kyle could gain Dylan's favor, both his company and his personal future would be limitless.
Dylan didn't show a friendly face and asked coldly, "Mr. Hayes, I have a question for you."
"Mr. Brooks, please go ahead." Kyle was a bit puzzled. What was going on? Why did Dylan seem unhappy with him?
"Do you know her?" Dylan pointed at Mary.
Mary politely nodded at Kyle in greeting.
Kyle glanced at Mary and immediately smiled. "Mary, you're here too? That's great. Isaac will be here soon."
Mary turned to look at Kyle and smiled slightly. "Uncle Kyle, I have a question. Was it you and Isaac who helped with the BK Pharmaceuticals breach of contract issue last time?"
"Wait, BK Pharmaceuticals?" With that, Kyle immediately remembered that Isaac had asked him to help with something a few days ago, and it seemed to be about BK Pharmaceuticals.
"Mary, you must be joking. Isaac did ask me to look into it, but my abilities are limited, and I couldn't help much. My abilities are limited, and I wasn't able to help. You aren't mad at me, are you?" Kyle added.
So it really wasn't Isaac and he had lied to her.
But why?
However, at this moment, Mary felt a sense of relief.
Because if Isaac had really helped her, she would owe him, and how could she repay that?
She didn't want to have any more ties with Isaac, or else William would be angry.
Coincidentally, Isaac appeared in the banquet hall wearing a well-fitted suit, looking glamorous.
When his eyes scanned the crowd, he saw Mary chatting with Kyle.
Mary was so beautiful, noble, and elegant. She was a dazzling pearl in the crowd.
Isaac adjusted his suit and walked over confidently, with a gentle smile on his face, saying, "Mary, you're here too."
"And who is this?" Dylan frowned slightly and asked.
"Mr. Brooks, this is my son, Isaac." Kyle's face flushed, feeling that something was off.
"Dad, Mr. Sullivan, Mr. Brooks." Isaac greeted the important figures with a nod.
They nodded back, but the atmosphere was strange.
However, Isaac only had eyes for Mary and didn't notice the subtle change in the atmosphere.
Mary was in a bad mood, her face cold. She glanced at Isaac and asked, "Isaac, I have something to ask you."
"Mary, what's up?" Isaac said with a smile. He wasn't blind; he could see that Mary was a bit upset.
'What is going on? Why does everyone look so unhappy?' Isaac asked inwardly.
"Did you ask Uncle Kyle to help with our company's issue last time?" Mary asked gently.
Isaac was taken aback for Mary's question.
He looked at Kyle, who was winking at him, then at Mary, and said with a smile, "Yes, Mary, it was indeed me who asked my dad to find someone to help with your company. But never mind, it was a small matter. Don't take it to heart. It was also thanks to Mr. Sullivan's agreement; otherwise, I wouldn't have been able to do anything."
"Really?" Mary was already feeling angry and asked again.
"Really, Mary, what's wrong? My dad is right here, you can ask him," Isaac said, glancing at Kyle with a smile.
A furious shout arose." You lying fool!" Kyle erupted like a volcano, his authority bursting forth.
He glared at Isaac and scolded, "Wayward child! How dare you admit to something you didn't do? When did I ever help Mary?"
Isaac was stunned and looked at Kyle in confusion.
'Why is my dad undermining me?' Isaac thought.
Mary felt deeply disappointed. The once sunny Isaac had completely changed, and he had become deceitful now.
"Dad, what are you talking about? Didn't you help with Mary's issue? I called you, and you said you would arrange it and that it could be resolved," Isaac said with a frown, feeling a bad premonition.
"Rubbish! When did I ever say that?" Kyle was furious, then added, "I only said I'd look into it. When did I say it was resolved?"
The atmosphere became tense.
"What is going on? Isaac, tell me the truth, did you help with our company's issue?" Mary's face was cold, her tone heavy.
"Mary, don't be mad. Maybe my dad forgot, or his subordinates didn't inform him," Isaac had known the truth but still tried to explain.
A solid slap fell on Isaac's face.
Kyle, trembling with anger, his face red, slapped Isaac and shouted, "How dare you lie? How could you claim credit for it?"
Kyle was truly furious.
He had look into it initially, but when they did, they found that the BK Pharmaceuticals issue had already been resolved.
It was a grand gesture, paying over six hundred million in breach of contract fees all at once.
After some secret inquiries, Kyle found out that the person who helped BK Pharmaceuticals was a man whose last name was Jones.
Kyle hadn't been in Lindwood City for nothing; a little digging revealed that this Jones was Mr. Jones, the main guest of tonight's banquet.
Even if Kyle had ten times the courage, he wouldn't dare claim credit for Mr. Jones's actions. But Isaac had the audacity to do just that!
If Mr. Jones found out, Kyle wouldn't be able to stay in Lindwood City.
"Dad! You hit me?" Isaac was stunned, holding his cheek, looking at Kyle in disbelief.
"Shouldn't I have hit you? Explain everything to Mary." Kyle was furious with himself for having such a foolish son.
He knew Isaac was infatuated with Mary, but it was a forbidden area.
That was Mr. Jones. The Hayes Group would go bankrupt with his single word.
With Mr. Brooks present, Isaac still had the nerve to argue and falsely claim credit, which was courting death.
"Mary, let me explain," Isaac turned to the cold-faced Mary, trying to explain.
"Enough," Mary shouted, clenching her fists tightly. She then glared at Isaac and said, "Isaac, do you think it's fun to deceive me?"
"No, Mary, I can explain," Isaac said urgently.
"Enough, I don't want to hear it. I don't want to see you anymore, and don't contact me again. I don't want my husband to misunderstand anything," Mary said coldly, then turned and left, lifting her gown.
Isaac wanted to explain further, but Kyle glared at him and scolded, "Idiot!"
As the others left, Kyle looked coldly at Isaac and angrily asked, "Stand still. Let me ask you again, why did you lie? Do you even know who helped Mary?"
Isaac felt terrible. Not only had he been humiliated by being slapped in front of so many people, but he had also infuriated Mary.
"It was Mr. Jones. The special guest tonight, Mr. Jones," Kyle answered his own question. And he kept reminding, "Behave yourself. If you cause more trouble, I'll send you abroad again."
"Got it," Isaac muttered.
"Get out," Kyle said.
As they parted ways, Isaac immediately went to find Mary.
He was very upset. It was Mr. Jones who had helped Mary.
'When does Mary get to know Mr. Jones? Can it really be William?' Isaac thought.
