Chapter 239 Watch Yourself, Margaret
William?
No way.
"Mary, what nonsense are you talking about? Don't defend William. I asked around today, and this villa is under your name," Margaret said.
Margaret gave an awkward smile, but she was a bit flustered inside because Mary didn't look like she was lying.
Could it be true?
But this villa cost 20 million dollars. If Mary hadn't paid with her company's money, how could William have had that much money?
"Mom, do you really think I have that much money to buy this villa?" Mary asked coldly in return.
"Didn't your company get a billion-dollar investment from the Jones Group from Imperial City? Did you use that money?" Margaret gritted her teeth and shook her head fervently.
Mary glanced at Margaret and said helplessly, "Mom, do you know it is a crime to embezzle company funds? Do you think I'm the type to do that? And let me tell you the truth, the investment from the Jones Group hasn't come through yet."
With that, Mary turned and went upstairs.
In the living room downstairs, Margaret was completely dumbfounded, sitting there alone, her eyes darting around. 'If the investment money hasn't come through, that means Mary really didn't pay for the villa.'
How could this be?
It was clearly under Mary's name. Could it really be William who paid for it?
If it really was William, how did he get so much money out of nowhere?
Margaret was startled and broke out in a cold sweat. She hurriedly ran to the bedroom and pulled Tyler up.
"Hey, what are you doing up in the middle of the night?" Tyler sat up with a face full of resentment, leaned against the headboard, and put on his reading glasses.
"Keep your voice down." Margaret gave Tyler a sneaky slap, then glanced at the door and said, "Tyler, listen. Mary just told me that she didn't pay for this villa. She said it was William."
Tyler also felt the gravity of the situation and asked seriously, "Didn't they say it was paid with Mary's company's investment money?"
Margaret shook her head vigorously and said, "She said that money hasn't come through yet."
Tyler nodded and said, "Oh." Then, he started staring at the ceiling and continued impatiently, "Just go to sleep. Does it matter who paid?"
Margaret slapped Tyler in the face, glaring and scolding sharply, "What do you mean? If William paid for it, how can I still be in charge of this house? Won't he become unbearably arrogant?"
Tyler was also furious and shouted, "Margaret, are you crazy? This isn't your house; it's William's! William's! How many times have I told you to be nicer to William, and you don't listen? Have you forgotten William's warning last time? How can you keep causing trouble? Do you really think William is still the same wuss you can bully?"
Margaret was left speechless, glaring at Tyler with hatred as she sat on the bed.
Margaret gritted her teeth and said, "I don't care. I have to be in charge of this house."
Tyler pulled the covers over himself and went back to sleep. "Go to sleep. I'm not arguing with you. One day, you'll ruin this family."
Margaret sat on the bed, glared at Tyler, kicked him several times to keep him from sleeping, and muttered, "What do you know? I'm doing this for our family's good. Even if William paid for this villa, if our names aren't on it, we could be kicked out any time."
After a long time of muttering, Margaret finally went to sleep.
The next morning, William woke up with a bit of a hangover.
Just as he was about to get up, the door opened.
"William, I made you some soup. It's good for your stomach. Drink it." Margaret walked in with a bowl of soup, her face full of a fawning smile.
William was stunned. This must be the first time Margaret had shown him such concern.
William said politely with a smile, "Thank you."
Margaret sat by the bed, watching William drink the soup, then smiled and said, "We're family. You're Mary's husband. If I don't treat you well, who will?"
If someone else heard this, they might think Margaret and William were very close.
But to William, it sounded a bit harsh and sarcastic.
Margaret being so attentive early in the morning definitely meant she had a favor to ask.
"Mom, do you need anything?" William asked.
Margaret quickly responded, "No, nothing. What could I possibly need? Oh, get up early, I bought breakfast for you downstairs. Come down and have some."
With that, Margaret left.
William watched Margaret's back, shaking his head with a helpless chuckle.
Margaret's intentions were written all over her face.
Downstairs, sitting in the dining room, William was having breakfast while Margaret sat across from him, smiling, which was quite unsettling.
"Mom, really, what do you need?" William was exasperated, feeling uncomfortable being stared at by Margaret.
Margaret chuckled, "Nothing. Nothing."
William was helpless, finished his meal, and left the house.
Margaret saw him to the door and then watched his departing back, her smile turning cold as she muttered, "William is so ordinary. Where did he suddenly have money to buy a villa?"
Suddenly, Tyler appeared behind Margaret with a birdcage, reminding her, "Did you forget about Jessica?"
Margaret was startled, slapped him a few times, and then said, "Right, right, Jessica is his stepmother, and she looks wealthy. Could it be that William is a rich kid who ran away from home because of Jessica?"
Tyler shook his head. "I don't know, but I advise you to watch yourself."
With that, Tyler left to take a walk.
Margaret was very annoyed, went back to the villa, pondered for a long time, and even called Dorothy and some other relatives to invite them to the villa.
Meanwhile, at the hospital.
"Useless! All of you are useless! What do I keep you here for?" Joshua was lying in a private hospital room, yelling into his phone.
Several of his men stood around, heads down, not daring to speak.
"Today, I want him crippled! Go and make it, now." Joshua angrily smashed his phone on the ground, standing by the window, his face dark.
Damn it, he was humiliated last night!
He had never lost to anyone in drinking.
But he lost to William!
And his men, a bunch of useless idiots, couldn't even keep an eye on them!
Joshua's heart burned with rage. Last night's plan failed because of William!
Not only did he fail to get Mary, but he also ended up in the hospital.
"William! I will make you wish you were dead!" Joshua punched the hospital bed, his face twisted with anger, looking terrifying.
Leaving the villa, William walked a few steps and planned to take the bus to the company. He hadn't been there in a while and didn't know the current situation.
He was quite carefree.
On the bustling street not far behind William, a few men smoking on the street corner glanced at him, compared him to a photo on their phone, dropped their cigarettes, and then sneakily followed him.
William, with his hands in his pockets, stood at the bus stop while the men behind him followed nonchalantly.
They were watching the crowd.
But they didn't know that William was smirking.
William had long noticed these men following him but didn't make a fuss.
Was it Keith or that Joshua from last night? Thinking about it, William left the bus stop, pretending to window shop. After a few steps, the men saw him turn into an alley and exchanged excited glances.
Two followed William into the alley, while two stayed at the entrance, smoking.
The leader, sporting an eagle tattoo on his neck, closely monitored William, casting glances at the alley entrance, received a signal from his companions, and gradually drew a folding knife from his waist.
"As long as I stab this guy, I can get fifty thousand dollars!" He was secretly delighted, thinking it was an easy deal.
A seemingly weak guy, this money was easy to earn.
He gripped the folding knife, the blade reflecting a cold silver light in the alley!
William suddenly turned around, looking innocently at the man with the knife, pretending not to see the weapon, and asked with a cheeky smile, "You're here to take a leak too?"
The tattooed man was startled by William's sudden turn, his eyes narrowed, and he gripped the knife and suddenly attacked, "Go to hell!"
The tattooed man's face was full of malice. In his eyes, William was already a dead man!
Fifty thousand dollars!
