Chapter 27 He Got the Wrong One
Rex took just one glance and recognized that this painting wasn't the one he had originally given to William.
It was a fake!
Then who had given this painting?
It was even on display in the Eagle Trade Showroom, and it seemed that everyone had taken it for an original.
While Rex was stunned, Tyler was going on and on about the painting, including its provenance. "Mr. Ingram, this painting is a birthday gift from Matthew to me. It's quite valuable. Could you take a look and give us your expert opinion?"
'Matthew?'
Rex looked at Matthew, who was smiling smugly in front of him, looking quite self-satisfied.
And he had been rude to William just now!
With that, Rex had made up his mind.
'Matthew, you're done for! I'll teach you a lesson on behalf of William!'
Rex walked seriously to the display case and started examining the painting in detail.
This scene looked solemn and mysterious to the onlookers.
This was Rex after all, a renowned collector in Lindwood City.
Tyler stood beside Rex, as respectful as a schoolboy, his face full of pride and excitement that he couldn’t contain.
He even began to fantasize about his future reputation as a collector in Lindwood City soaring.
With that thought, his fondness for Matthew grew, and he nodded at him.
seeing Tyler so pleased, Matthew beamed with pride and looked triumphantly at William Jones, who was standing in the corner.
William just smiled faintly, then looked down at his phone.
What was he doing?
Naturally, he was arranging work for Melissa.
"Melissa, find out if there are any Harley-Davidson dealerships nearby. I’ll go buy some bikes in a few days to replace all our company’s electric bikes with Harley-Davidsons."
The content of William's text was simple yet forceful.
Melissa Clark, sitting in the office in her white shirt and black skirt, her legs smooth as a baby’s skin and wearing black high heels, was stunned as she read the message. She quickly replied, "Boss, you mean to replace all of our company's delivery scooters with Harley-Davidsons?"
Melissa felt the world spinning, realizing for the first time that William was not just rich, but very rich!
A single Harley-Davidson cost at least tens of thousands, and good ones could be hundreds of thousands.
The company had over a hundred employees in total, which would amount to an expense of tens of millions!
Who exactly was William to have so much money?
"Yes, contact them quickly and make a reservation. I don’t like hassles."
After sending the message, William put away his phone and sat quietly on the side, watching.
Every move Rex made attracted the attention of everyone in the showroom.
Even some people began to flatter Tyler, who was beaming with joy.
"Mr. Ingram, how much do you think this painting is worth?" Tyler, seeing that Rex had finished looking, couldn't wait to ask with a smile on his face.
Rex said in a deep voice, "Mr. Smith, this painting is only worth one hundred dollars!"
Rex's voice spread throughout the showroom.
Tyler was dumbfounded, and the crowd was stunned.
Matthew was the most shocked.
He had spent over two million dollars on it, and it was only worth one hundred dollars?
Was there a mistake?
Was this really Mr. Ingram?
He had to be a fake, right?
"Mr. Ingram, you must be joking, this is an original!" Tyler broke out in a cold sweat, emphasizing the word "original" heavily.
Rex chuckled twice and explained, "Then let me tell you, this painting is a fake."
'A fake!'
Instantly, the showroom erupted.
'It was a fake!'
"Impossible! How could this be fake? Several of us looked at it last time, and it was real," Tyler argued. "I may not have your fame, Mr. Ingram, but I can tell a real painting from a fake. How could this be fake?"
Rex knew the other party wouldn't believe him, so he started to analyze the painting on the spot.
"This painting is almost indistinguishable from the real thing, so it’s understandable you couldn’t tell. But if you look closely, the figures’ outlines aren’t full enough, and the lines and colors are clearly broken, a flaw in the machine repair process. It’s subtle, but it’s there..."
Listening to Rex's explanation, everyone in the showroom had a sudden realization.
"So it's a fake! Tyler, you've really duped us."
"After all this fuss, you bring us a fake painting to look at, what the hell!"
The crowd’s dissatisfaction spread, and Tyler Smith felt deeply embarrassed and nervous.
How could it be fake?
How could it be possible?
Matthew stood by, frowning, and glanced at William in the corner.
Suddenly, he tugged at Tyler's arm and whispered, "Tyler, could it be that William took the wrong painting?"
'The wrong painting?'
Tyler immediately came to his senses.
‘That must be it! William must have brought the wrong painting!’
Without waiting, Tyler ignored the crowd's curses and walked quickly to William, slapping him and roaring. "William, did you bring your fake painting here? Are you deliberately trying to embarrass me?"
Tyler was furious. He had worked hard to organize this personal exhibition to boost his reputation. But now, it had turned into such a big misunderstanding. It was so embarrassing.
He was supposed to be a somewhat well-known person in the circle.
So, he vented all his anger on William Jones.
Seeing this, Rex was furious inside and wanted to step forward to stop it, but William just gave him a cold stare.
Then, William hastily said. "I’m sorry, Dad, I brought the wrong one. I’ll go get the right one now."
"Hurry up!" Tyler was furious, his eyes cold.
How could he had such a useless son-in-law!
Standing behind Tyler Smith, Matthew smiled coldly and provocatively.
Watching William Jones run out, Matthew whispered in Tyler’s ear, "I think, Tyler, William do it on purpose. He doesn't respect you at all. After all, you’re his father-in-law, and he made you lose face on such an important occasion. It's outrageous..."
"He's just a good-for-nothing. When I get back, I'll make Mary divorce him!" Tyler interrupted Matthew, full of anger.
Matthew was thrilled, his objective achieved, and he clenched his fists in excitement.
'Mary will soon be my woman!'
After William left, Tyler apologized profusely to everyone. "I'm sorry, the painting is taken wrongly. I've already sent my son-in-law to fetch the right one."
Tyler kept apologizing, and naturally, people had questions. "Tyler, how can a painting be taken wrongly? Could it be that you have two paintings worth millions?"
Tyler was about to speak when Matthew explained with a grin, "Here’s the situation. It was Tyler’s birthday a few days ago, and both I and Tyler’s son-in-law, William, prepared a painting for him. We both prepared the same painting, but mine is genuine, and William’s is fake…"
After the explanation, everyone understood the gist.
Suddenly, the people in the showroom began to ridicule William.
"Who does that, getting a painting from a second-hand market for his father-in-law. How shabby."
"Come on, you all know Tyler Smith’s son-in-law is a well-known loser."
"I actually think Matthew is a good guy, and Tyler's daughter is beautiful. They should be a couple."
Among the crowd, Rex's face grew darker as he heard these discussions.
These people had no idea that Mr. Jones was a top-tier billionaire who could invest two billion at once!
Rex also realized what was going on. The painting he had given William was authentic, but Tyler, in his arrogance, had deemed it a fake.
The fake became the real, and the real one was dismissed as a fake by everyone.
Now, the painting William was fetching was naturally the real one he had originally given.
However, after Matthew's words just now, everyone thought that the painting William was now fetching was the one given by Matthew.
Rex stroked his chin, a faint cold smile appearing on his lips.
‘Fine, let this ignorant Matthew lose face and teach him a lesson for William.’
Before long, William had brought back another painting.
Alan had been blending in with the crowd, silently watching.
Tyler went over personally, snatched the painting from his arms, and cursed, "Useless! Get out of the way! I'll deal with you when we get back!"
William sighed helplessly, gave a wry smile, and stepped aside..
The painting was unveiled again.
Tyler invited Rex to take another look, "Mr. Ingram, please have a look, this is the original."
Rex pretended to scrutinize it, nodding and praising as he looked. "Brilliant, this is the real painting, this is the million-dollar original!"
As soon as he said this, Tyler's tumultuous emotions finally calmed down, and he couldn't hide the smile on his face.
However, the next sentence stunned everyone in the showroom.
"Matthew, are you sure this painting is the one you bought from your friend?" Rex smiled at the triumphant Matthew.
