Chapter 56 Margaret, You Don't Know Your Place!
Why was William here?
And right next to Professor Charles, no less.
What was going on?
Jeffery didn't understand. Could it be that William knew Professor Charles?
Impossible. How could a prestigious medical authority like Professor Charles Parker be acquainted with a good-for-nothing like William?
Professor Charles was taken aback; he didn't know Jeffery, but he did know his father, Percy. To say he knew him was an overstatement; it was just a slight connection.
Because of his fondness for jade, he had bought quite a lot. One year, at Sunshine Bay City, Charles received a piece of exquisite jade from Percy. It was a rare jade object, and he remembered that favor.
Just a few days ago, Percy personally contacted him, saying that his son's friend's daughter had congenital heart disease and begged him to take a look.
Who did he think he was? Was Charles someone that just anyone can ask for?
After much pleading, out of respect for that piece of exquisite jade, Charles agreed to take a look along the way.
"Do you know each other?" Charles looked at Jeffery and asked.
He could tell that Jeffery's attitude toward William was not too friendly just now. Could it be that they had a personal feud?
Charles's expression gradually turned colder, and his eyebrows furrowed. If that was indeed the case, then he wouldn't help with the matter Jeffery had requested.
Jeffery let out a cold snort of laughter and said, "Of course I know him, Professor Parker. To be honest, standing next to such a person is an insult to you. Let's go talk over there, and I'll host a banquet for you tonight at the Victory Grand Hotel."
Jeffery was clear in his mind that someone like William definitely couldn't know Professor Parker.
At most, he was just passing by.
Could the doctor he found possibly be Charles? Did he have that much clout?
However, Professor Charles's expression had become extremely displeased. He snorted coldly.
An insult? To stand next to William was a blessing that Charles had cultivated!
'Jeffery, you are truly looking down on others!'
"No need! I don't think Jeffery is qualified to dine with me," Charles said with an icy chill, his face darkening and his gaze sharp.
Just a stern voice was enough to send Jeffery into a panic.
"You're not qualified." These four words rang particularly harshly in Jeffery's ears.
But he didn't dare show any dissatisfaction. instead, he asked in a panic. "Professor Parker, did I do something wrong? Please tell me, and I will change!"
Jeffery was flustered. If he had offended Professor Parker because of some small mistake, not only would Mary's daughter's illness go untreated, but his own family's business could also be affected.
He really couldn't understand. It was his first time meeting Professor Parker.
He had said no more than five sentences. How did he manage to provoke this medical authority?
In an instant, Jeffery's forehead was covered with cold sweat.
"You don't know how to respect people!" Charles rebuked, about to turn his head to reveal William's identity, but he saw the latter shake his head at him.
Charles paused, but then immediately understood and said, "Even if this gentleman is very ordinary, you shouldn't insult him like that. You should know how to respect each other."
His voice was not loud, yet it was rather grating. Jeffery listened, his body trembling slightly. The aura emanating from Charles was too intimidating!
This was the demeanor of someone who dealt with high-level figures; indeed, not someone to be easily offended.
"Yes, you're right, Professor Parker." Jeffery hurriedly nodded in agreement, while from the corner of his eye, he glared at William, hating him to the core!
It was all this good-for-nothing's fault for standing in the way!
If it weren't for him, would he have been reprimanded by Professor Parker?
He would find an opportunity to humiliate him thoroughly.
"What are you standing there for? Apologize to this gentleman," Charles spoke coldly.
Apologize?
Jeffery looked toward William, a hint of chill in his eyes.
Jeffery was very reluctant to apologize to this good-for-nothing but he had no choice. If he offended Charles, he would certainly not come out unscathed.
After much deliberation, Jeffery could only coldly say to William. "I'm sorry, William. I hope you don't mind what I said just now."
William didn't want to make a scene either. He nodded and then turned to leave.
Unexpectedly, Margaret came hurrying over.
"Jeffery, what's the rush calling me over so early in the morning?" Upon seeing Jeffery, Margaret smiled, her eyes filled with the fondness one has for a son-in-law.
But when her gaze fell on William, she felt uncomfortable all over, as if her body was covered in thorns, and she scolded him in disgust. "What are you doing here? I have warned you not to come here. Go away, get out of here now!"
Margaret was infuriated at the sight of William. This good-for-nothing was annoying no matter where he stood.
William couldn't say anything, only managing a helpless smile before turning to leave.
Margaret continued to mutter under her breath. "Such a ghastly nuisance."
Charles frowned. This was William's mother-in-law? How brash and unreasonable.
To have such a mother-in-law, William was indeed unlucky.
"Wait!" Charles called out to William, standing in front of him.
He was displeased with the mother-in-law's behavior, so he wanted to do something for William.
"Who is this?" Charles directly asked Jeffery with a cold tone.
Jeffery immediately responded with a flattering attitude. "Professor Parker, this is…"
Before he could finish, Margaret started scolding the doctor without reason. "Old man, who are you? Do you want to speak for that good-for-nothing?"
Old man?
Everyone was stunned!
This was undoubtedly the first time in many years of his medical career that Professor Charles had been insulted like this.
At that moment, his face turned purple with anger, his blood boiling.
The disciples by his side also had cold gazes, as if they wanted to tear apart the mouth of this shrew.
Jeffery was shocked, hastily tugging at Margaret's arm. "Margaret, it's not right to be unreasonable, he is…"
"Who is he? Anyone who speaks for that good-for-nothing William can't be much better! At such an old age, he's still dressed so slickly. Is he trying to swindle young girls? Shameless old man, what a discredit to his age!"
Margaret had a venomous tongue and was completely reckless.
"Speak up, old thing, why are you silent now? Weren't you so bold just now? Are you scared because I've exposed you? Shameless old man! Pah!" Margaret stood with her arms crossed, her eyebrows raised.
Her insults were as vulgar as a shrew cursing in the street, drenching Charles in verbal filth.
In her eyes, there was no one she feared.
Everyone was dumbfounded.
Jeffery was trembling all over.
On one side was Mary's mother, and on the other was a medical authority.
"Margaret! Stop talking, do you know who he is?" Jeffery was frantic, pulling Margaret aside and explaining. "He is Charles Parker!"
"Who's that? Who cares who he is, I don't know him." Margaret waved her hand dismissively, like an ignorant country woman.
"Margaret! You've caused a big problem. Professor Charles is a renowned doctor recognized in the international medical community and a legendary figure in the domestic medical field! His status is highly esteemed. Even several high-level officials from the province are his patients!"
Jeffery was truly frantic, Margaret's behavior just now was practically digging her own grave.
Offending such a figure, heads would surely roll!
When Margaret heard this, her legs went weak, and she nearly couldn't stand.
"Is this bastard that powerful?" Margaret looked at Charles with a frightened expression, but just making eye contact with those icy eyes made her shiver.
Those were the tycoons of DX, and the provincial figures were his patients.
Margaret was about to faint from fear.
She was used to being arrogant and domineering on a daily basis, but faced with a big shot like Charles, Margaret could only tuck her tail between her legs and behave.
"Is an apology enough? Didn't you call me a bastard?" Charles roared angrily, his gaze icy. Just a simple look was enough to make one feel the urge to kneel. "If I don't teach you a lesson today, I might as well not be a doctor!"
No one dared to breathe. When Charles became enraged, the whole of Lindwood City would tremble.
It was all over. Margaret felt despair. Her face was pale and she was almost ready to kneel down!
Jeffery was also sweating profusely, already contemplating how to resolve this misunderstanding.
"Professor Parker, for my sake, let's just forget about this."
At this inopportune moment, a very calm voice spoke up, yet it seemed so out of place.
