Chapter 408 News from Ambrose

The wine bottle exploded into shards.

The woman smashed the bottle on the ground, jumped up, and yelled, face red with rage, "Get moving! Stop anyone who tries to get in!"

At her command, the Phantom Assassin Agency snapped into action.

In no time, everyone was gathered in the grand hall.

A few figures showed up at the entrance.

William sauntered in, with Benjamin, Alan, and the rest trailing behind.

Alan and the crew were covered in blood.

The woman on the throne saw who it was, sat back down, and sneered, "Just a few of you think you can invade my turf? How dare you!"

William, looking chill with his hands in his pockets, glanced around and asked, "How long?"

Benjamin checked his watch and said, "Ten minutes."

"Cool."

William didn't say another word and walked out of the hall.

He quietly moved to the side, lit a cigarette, and stared at the sky.

Rain was coming.

Soon, the sounds of battle erupted.

You could picture the chaos in your head.

The fight was over in a flash.

In less than eight minutes, Benjamin walked out, drenched in blood.

"All done?" William asked, checking the time.

Benjamin wiped his dagger clean and nodded. "Don't forget to transfer a hundred million to my account."

William rolled his eyes, flicked the cigarette butt to the ground, and stomped it out.

Thunder rumbled, and the sky opened up, pouring rain.

It seemed to wash away the blood.

Alan and his crew quickly cleaned up, setting a fire to erase all evidence.

But then, someone shouted, "Mr. Jones, one got away! That woman escaped!"

William's eyebrows knitted together as he looked at Benjamin and said coldly, "What happened?"

Benjamin looked shocked and quickly chased after her.

After a while, Benjamin came back, looking grim. "I messed up."

William's expression turned icy as he stared at Benjamin. "Don't let it happen again!"

With that, he turned and left with his crew.

Behind them, the fire raged, lighting up the sky.

Meanwhile, in an underground tunnel in a dense forest, a woman, covered in blood, crawled out. Her stunning face was now pale.

She looked at the sky, spat blood, and murmured, "I'll get my revenge!"

Then, she passed out.

Not long after she fainted, the sound of high heels approached her.

All that could be seen were a pair of long, slender legs—it was a woman.

If Mary were here, she would recognize her as the woman she met at the café that night.

William and his team returned to Lindwood City. Although Alan's men were alive, they were banged up.

William hadn't planned for Alan and his crew to handle this task; he just wanted to see if Alan and his team were worth investing in.

Alan had guts, and his crew was decent too.

As William got out of the car to leave, Alan quickly approached and said respectfully, "Mr. Jones, there's an secret business meeting in a few days between Lindwood City and the Southern District about the reallocation of regional assets. Could you help us secure some of the Southern District's assets?"

Alan had been thinking about this for a long time.

Every four years, the major forces of Lindwood City and the Southern District reallocate regional assets.

During this period, everyone would do their best to get what they wanted.

The business meetings were basically a reshuffling of power.

Last time, Alan secured Lindwood City with his own strength. This time, he wanted more.

He wanted the Southern District!

Naturally, he needed William's help, as these secret business meetings were all about money.

Whoever bid the highest would get the marked area.

The funds would all be managed by the secret business meeting.

The actual backer of the secret business meeting was a wealthy and powerful family corporation from Sunshine Bay City.

Alan had always wanted to make connections with them but had never had the chance.

William was silent for a moment and then said, "Alright, pick me up then."

Alan was stoked and saw William off with all the respect he could muster.

Others might not get it, but Alan knew exactly who William was.

William had both cash and muscle!

This time, Alan was dead set on taking over the Southern District.

Soon, Alan went off to get things ready.

Meanwhile, William headed back to the villa, where Mary was already back and playing with Sarah.

Seeing William, Mary stood up, signaled Lucy to take Sarah upstairs, and then asked, "My mom told me you hit her?"

William had a feeling Margaret might whine about it, so he didn't hide it and nodded. "Yep."

Mary frowned. As soon as she got back, Margaret had pulled her aside, crying and accusing William of abuse.

"What did she do this time?" Mary asked.

She knew William's temper; he wouldn't hit Margaret unless he was pushed to the edge.

But when she asked Margaret, Margaret clammed up.

"She stole something and tried to pin it on Lucy," William said.

Upon hearing this, Mary frowned again. Margaret really had some nerve.

Just then, Margaret came out of the bedroom. Seeing William back, she avoided his gaze, ran over to Mary, and said, "Mary, you have to stand up for me."

Mary turned and glared at Margaret, clearly annoyed. "Mom, William told me everything. This is on you. Why won't you own up to it?"

Margaret got all huffy.

Mary was siding with William again.

Margaret started to argue irrationally, "Own up to what? It wasn't me. I didn't do it. Anyway, he shouldn't have hit me. I'm his mother-in-law."

She had been fuming all day, her anger boiling over, and she wanted to kick William out.

But she didn't dare.

William was different now; he was the big boss of Crescent Investment Group.

Margaret was scared.

William, who had always been under her thumb, had suddenly risen above her, which made her uncomfortable.

"Margaret, have you forgotten what I told you earlier today?" William said coldly, his icy eyes fixed on Margaret.

Margaret was so freaked out by William's stare that she hid behind Mary.

Mary knew Margaret was a bully who feared the strong, so she said to William, "William, I'm sorry. I apologize to you and Lucy on my mom's behalf."

There was no other way; after all, it was her mother.

She had to apologize.

But Margaret kept muttering non-stop.

In the end, Mary couldn't hold back and shouted, "Mom, enough! Stop talking and go back!"

Margaret was stunned; she didn't expect Mary to snap.

Realizing she couldn't teach William a lesson today, Margaret stormed back to her bedroom and slammed the door shut.

She sat on the bed, with Tyler lying next to her.

She was so mad that she kicked Tyler several times. Tyler got up, annoyed, and said, "What are you doing? Taking your anger out on me? Can't you just chill for a few days? Do you have to make everyone hate you?"

Furious, Margaret pointed at the door, cursing, "Tyler, you're a man, aren't you? Are you just going to let William push me around? Just because he's rich and the boss of Crescent Investment Group, he can do whatever he wants?"

Tired of her nonsense, Tyler got up, packed his things, and said, "I'm crashing somewhere else, okay? You're always causing trouble. One day, you'll regret it."

Margaret sat angrily on the bed, muttering non-stop.

Meanwhile, Mary went back to the bedroom with William.

While William was in the shower, she took out the USB drive from her bag.

It was the one that woman had given her at the café.

She said all the answers Mary wanted were in there.

Mary held it in her hand, thought for a long time, and hesitantly placed the USB drive on the nightstand.

Maybe this was her last bit of trust in William.

She wanted to believe that William would tell her the truth.

When William came out, he saw Mary sitting on the bed reading and smiled. "Not asleep yet? Something on your mind?" he asked.

Mary smiled faintly. "Just work stuff."

William didn't think much of it, checked his phone for messages, and then quickly left the bedroom with a furrowed brow.

Ambrose finally made some headway.
