Chapter 94 I am William's Fiancée
William?
Margaret frowned slightly, her expression a bit displeased. Hearing William Jones's name made her uncomfortable, but she quickly hid her feelings.
These items were all gifts from Susan.
Gold, jewels, a luxury car, and cash.
From this, she could tell that Susan was from a wealthy family.
"That, our William and Susan are friends?" Margaret asked with a smile full of anticipation.
The polite man replied, "I'm not sure about the specifics. I'm just responsible for delivering these items."
After he finished speaking, the man and his subordinates left in a hurry, as quickly as they had arrived.
Once they were gone, Margaret snapped out of her shock.
They're going to be rich!
"Tyler, Mary, our family is going to strike it rich! This is worth a lot of money! And there's even two million dollars here!"
Margaret was so excited that she forgot all about her aching back, her eyes glued to the gifts and two boxes of cash, wishing she could sleep with them.
Tyler was naturally thrilled, especially with those two paintings, which looked incredibly valuable!
What a great stuff!
Both of them were completely captivated.
"Mary, who exactly is this Susan, and how does she know William?"
Margaret wasn't dumb. She knew these gifts were sent because of William's face.
How could that useless William have such wealthy friends?
What a dark horse!
Mary's face turned extremely sour. She frowned and said angrily, "Mom, Dad, we need to send these things back. We can't accept them!"
Mary didn't understand Susan's intentions, but it was clear that she was flaunting her wealth!
Susan was trying to steal William away from her!
Impossible!
William was her husband, Sarah's father, and Mary would never admit defeat!
When Margaret heard that Mary wanted to send everything back, she threw a tantrum and shouted, "No way! Absolutely not! These were given to me! They're mine, they belong to Margaret! What right do you have to send them back?"
Greed had taken hold and it was the opportunistic Margaret.
So, what if it was her daughter? Money was more important.
Even if it meant cutting ties with her daughter, Margaret would never return these items.
Just the gold necklaces alone were worth a lot, not to mention the two million dollars and the car keys.
Margaret had never had anything like this before, so there was no way she would give them up easily.
"Mom, do you know why these things were given to us?" Mary stomped her foot in frustration, tears welling up in her eyes. Having such a money-hungry mom was so unlucky.
"I don't care, Mary. I warn you, Susan sent these, and now they are mine. You have no right to make me return them!"
Margaret guarded the gifts fiercely, glaring at Mary.
"Tyler, come here and say something. Tell me, should we return these items or not?"
Margaret enlisted Tyler to bolster her stance.
Tyler was conflicted. Honestly, he really liked those two paintings, and one of them was even a piece by a great painter!
If word of this painting got out, his fame in the collector's circle would soar!
But he could see that his daughter was very unhappy.
"Margaret, how about we return them? As the saying goes, 'Do not accept reward without merit.' We can’t accept these things," Tyler said, still caring for his daughter.
That set Margaret off. She sat on the floor, slapping her thighs and crying. "Tyler, you and Mary are ganging up to bully me, aren't you? There isn't a single decent person in the Smith family! What have I gained over the years from marrying you? I must have been blind to marry you and then give birth to such an ungrateful child. I can't live like this. I'd rather die!"
"I'm telling you. I won't return any of these items. If you dare to return them, I'll drink pesticide and die right here at home!"
When Margaret played the rogue, nobody could handle her.
Mary was so angry she started crying. She stomped her foot in frustration and stormed into her bedroom, slamming the door shut!
Margaret was initially stunned, then shook her head smugly. She even gave Tyler a gloating look before crawling up with a sneer and stashing all the items in her room.
Later, Margaret remembered something—there was something fishy about William.
Why did Susan give their family so many expensive gifts for no reason? Judging by Mary's reaction, it seemed like there were some things they were hiding from her.
"Tyler, what's going on with William? Why would Susan send our family so many valuable things?" Margaret inquired, unable to get Susan out of her mind.
An ordinary friend wouldn't send such valuable gifts.
William and Susan must have a special relationship.
Tyler still admired the two paintings and responded absentmindedly, "Ask Mary. She probably knows."
Margaret pouted and walked out of the bedroom just in time to see Mary leaving the house. She called out, "Mary, where are you going? I have something to ask you."
Mary ignored Margaret and went straight out the door.
"This ungrateful girl is becoming more and more unreasonable, all thanks to useless William."
Margaret rolled her eyes in frustration and muttered a few words.
No, she had to make a phone call to William.
Thinking this, Margaret dialed William's number. "William, do you know Susan?"
William was at the hospital accompanying Sarah. He quickly frowned when he heard this. "Mom, does Susan come to our house?" he asked.
"No, but she sent over a bunch of expensive stuff." Margaret should have specified what was sent, worried that William would want them returned.
William was silent for a moment, then forced a smile and explained, "Mom, just accept the gifts. She’s an old friend from my hometown, visiting Lindwood City for fun."
Hearing this, Margaret was delighted and said excitedly, "Oh, William. You should've told me sooner if you have such wealthy friends. By the way, if you want anything to eat, let me know. Don't be shy with me and bring Susan over some time so I can properly host her."
William wasn't surprised by his mother's sudden change in attitude. She was always a fair-weather person, easily swayed by money.
After a few more words, William hung up with a darkened expression. He immediately called Susan and asked sternly, "Susan, what are you playing at?"
Susan was leaving the parking lot and answered with a smug smile, "Oh, nothing. I just thought your mother-in-law looked down on you, so I wanted to give her a little surprise. So, how is she now? Is she sucking up to you and asking you to bring me over for dinner?"
William's eyes grew cold as he glanced at his sleeping daughter and stepped out of the ward, " Susan, I warn you. Stay out of my business! Where are you now?"
"Why? Can't wait to see me, huh? Aren't you worried about your wife?" Susan walked gracefully into a restaurant.
"You know my temper. Where are you?" William's tone turned icy.
"Polaris Sky Restaurant," Susan said before hanging up.
William was shocked!
Damn it, Susan had played him.
He thought that by agreeing to her request, she wouldn't go to see Mary.
Without time to think, William rushed out of the hospital, hailed a cab, and headed straight for the Polaris Sky Restaurant.
He had to stop her from meeting Mary!
Meanwhile.
Mary dressed up carefully and arrived at the Polaris Sky Restaurant, as Susan agreed.
This was the most luxurious and expensive Western restaurant in all of Lindwood City, with only seventeen branches nationwide.
Mary looked stunning tonight, instantly capturing everyone's attention as she entered the restaurant.
"Hello, a reservation for Susan," Mary said to the waiter with a smile.
"Right this way, please."
The waiter led Mary to the top floor's revolving restaurant, a semi-open space offering a view of Lindwood City's nightscape, with a small swimming pool below, its azure waters refreshing to behold.
Susan had booked this floor entirely.
Seeing Susan sip her coffee, Mary couldn't help but think for a moment that Susan and William had made a perfect match.
Could it be that Susan's coffee-drinking habit was the same as William's?
Seated.
The two looked at each other.
Mary spoke coldly, "Let's cut to the chase, Susan."
Mary was very nervous, her hands tightly clasped on her knees, trembling slightly.
The pressure from Susan was immense, especially with the valuable gifts sent today, which made her feel incredibly stressed.
Susan's red lips parted with a gentle smile. "Mary, how much do you know about William?"
Mary immediately replied, "William is my husband. Of course, I know him well."
Susan chuckled lightly, looking at Mary, who now resembled a hedgehog bristling with arrows, eagerly asserting her territory.
"I am William's fiancée." Susan suddenly declared, taking a sip of coffee with a chilly stare. Meanwhile, her tone carried an implicit pressure.
