Chapter 246 Hitting Margaret

Meanwhile, Jessica walked into the side hall, her face adorned with a gentle smile. She blocked Mary's path and said, "Mary, what brings you here all of a sudden?"

Jessica appeared vastly different in the main hall than she did now.

Mary, in a daze, saw the two figures disappearing into the night, leaving the estate.

"Hello," Mary greeted politely.

Jessica took Mary's arm and led her to the sofa, instructing the servants to prepare some snacks.

Meanwhile, William and Nicholas left the estate. William glanced back suspiciously as he seemed to have heard someone call "Mary."

Shaking his head, William opened the car door and got in.

Meanwhile, Mary was still feeling quite uneasy, especially in front of Jessica.

Jessica was William's stepmother, and William had some misunderstandings about her.

"Mary, come, have some freshly made snacks," Jessica said with a gentle smile, handing Mary a piece of snack with her slender fingers.

Mary nodded slightly, politely accepting it, and said, "Thank you. You didn't have to go through the trouble."

Jessica raised her eyebrows, glanced back a few times, and signaled the servants to leave.

Now, only Jessica and Mary were left in the side hall.

Jessica, exuding extreme elegance, looked at Mary with a self-assured smile, her eyes curving like crescents. She asked, "Did you come to see me this late because of William?"

Sure enough, Mary started to get suspicious.

Jessica squinted slightly, looking at Mary, who was nervous, and already had a plan in mind.

"Jessica," Mary called.

She hesitated for a moment before asking, "William told me before that the family runs a restaurant. Is it really that simple?"

Mary's eyes widened as she looked at Jessica, eager to know the answer.

"Yes," Jessica replied.

She added with a warm smile, "William wasn't lying. The family does run a restaurant, but..."

But?

Mary was stunned. There was indeed more to it.

"But the restaurant might be a bit bigger than you imagined. As for why William didn't tell you, he might have been worried you couldn't handle it. I came to Lindwood City this time partly for business and partly to persuade William to come back. He had a falling out with his father years ago and left home. His father has regretted it all these years. Now his father is seriously ill and doesn't have much time left. I hope you can help me persuade William to go back and see him," Jessica spoke calmly, her tone carrying a sense of detachment.

She was determined to force William to return, breaking a long-standing agreement, to implement her next plan.

Mary shuddered upon hearing this. William's father was seriously ill?

"Alright, I will definitely persuade him," Mary said, then stood up. "I have nothing else to discuss, so I'll head back now."

Jessica stood up as well and said, "I'll have someone take you back. Feel free to come over anytime and treat this place as your own home."

Mary smiled, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear, and said, "If you're free tomorrow, come to my place for dinner. I'll arrange for you to talk to William."

"Sure, thank you so much, Mary," Jessica said, smiling happily and walking over to hug Mary with a motherly demeanor.

Before leaving, Mary asked, "This estate?"

Jessica crossed her arms, elegantly glancing at the large estate, and said, "The family bought it. It will be yours and William's in the future."

Mary was shocked!

This estate looked so large and luxurious, and it was bought by William's family.

She thought, 'How much did it cost? William, you actually kept this from me!'

Mary was a bit angry, turned around, and left the estate, taking a car back to the villa.

William had returned earlier. Seeing Mary come back, he greeted her with a smile, "Mary, where did you go?"

But Mary coldly glared at him and dragged him into the master bedroom.

The door closed.

Downstairs, Margaret sneaked out of her bedroom, tiptoed upstairs, and eavesdropped at the master bedroom door.

"William, do you know where I just came back from?" Mary asked.

She sat angrily on the large bed, her face cold as she asked.

William was a bit confused, smiling foolishly, and asked, "Where?"

"Jessica's place," Mary said.

She crossed her arms, gaze fixed on William, searching for a change in his expression.

William was first stunned, then chuckled and asked, "Why did you suddenly go to see her?"

He thought, 'Oh no! Why did Mary go to see Jessica? Is Mary suspicious of me? What did Jessica say to Mary?'

William was now in a panic.

"William, are you hiding something from me?" Mary asked, her eyes fixed on William.

William moved closer, hugging Mary, and said with a smile, "No, what are you thinking? I've told you everything I should."

William was betting that Jessica hadn't said anything. He knew Jessica wouldn't tell Mary. That way, he could rightfully take Mary and Sarah back.

William had his reasons for not revealing his identity to Mary. Mary came from an ordinary family with no strong background. If William revealed his identity or took them back home, it would surely provoke the Miller family and other forces.

In this world, the Miller family wasn't the only one eyeing the Jones family!

The situation was akin to a tangled rope with various forces tugging at it. If William failed to settle the balance, a chain reaction would follow, with many discarding their masks and cutting ties with the Jones family completely.

In such a scenario, William wouldn't be able to fully protect Mary and Sarah.

William was like a wild grass now, ignored by everyone. But if one day, this wild grass grew into a big tree or had the potential to become one, everyone would come and ruthlessly trample it.

So, he could only proceed slowly, developing until he was strong enough to fear no force. Only then could he announce it to the world.

Mary twisted her body, gave William a sidelong glance, and said, "Jessica told me that your family's restaurant business is much bigger than you let on."

William's eyebrows furrowed, and he asked urgently, "Did she tell you any specifics?"

Mary shook her head and said, "That's what I want to ask you. I'm your wife. Why are you hiding things from me?"

She added, "William, how big is your family's business?"

Hearing this, William let out a sigh of relief and then, pretending to be nonchalant, explained, "Mary, actually my family's business is..."

Suddenly, the master bedroom door was pushed open from the outside!

Margaret fell at the doorway, her eyes wide open, looking awkwardly and smiling at the two sitting on the bed.

"Oh, Mary, I need to talk to you. Come downstairs for a moment," Margaret said.

She quickly got up, glanced sideways, and turned to leave with a sway of her hips.

Mary and William exchanged a helpless look, feeling resigned about Margaret.

Mary stood up and said, "I'll go down for a bit."

She left the master bedroom and found Margaret sulking on the sofa in the living room.

She had heard the entire conversation between Mary and William.

She thought resentfully, 'Damn William, he really hid a lot! Running a restaurant? To be this wealthy, it must be a chain!'

"Mom, what do you need?" Mary asked.

She walked over but didn't sit down.

Margaret quickly pulled Mary to sit down, glanced at the second floor, and lowered her voice, "Mary, tell me, what exactly does William's family do? I heard you mention a restaurant?"

Mary knew Margaret would ask this and didn't plan to hide it. She said, "Yes, William's family runs a restaurant. I only found out recently. If there's nothing else, I'll head back up."

Mary turned to leave, which made Margaret anxious. Margaret quickly grabbed Mary and said, "You silly child, why are you only telling me now?"

"Mom, what exactly do you want?" Mary asked, a bit speechless, knowing Margaret was up to something again.

"What do I want? Of course, I'm thinking about your future. Since William's family is so wealthy, why didn't he tell you before? Do you think he has bad intentions? I'm telling you, Mary, you and I need to be on the same side. I'll help you fight for the family assets!" Margaret said firmly.

Mary shook her head helplessly and coldly said, "Mom, can you stop causing trouble all the time?"

With that, she went upstairs.

In the living room, Margaret muttered to herself, "Causing trouble? I'm doing this for your own good! Ungrateful child!"

The next day, Mary and William left the villa. Margaret was also about to go out, but as soon as she reached the door, a figure blocked her way.

Margaret was rummaging through her bag and didn't look up, immediately starting to scold, "Who are you? How dare you barge into my house?"

"Margaret."

Suddenly, a cold voice made Margaret's heart skip a beat.

She knew this voice too well!

Looking up quickly, she saw an incredibly elegant woman standing in front of her.

In front of her, Margaret felt utterly weak.

Jessica! Why was she here?

Jessica raised her hand and slapped Margaret, making her eyes widen and mouth open in shock, unable to speak for a long time.

"Didn't I tell you not to be too arrogant?" Jessica said coldly, with eight bodyguards in black suits and sunglasses standing behind her.
