Chapter 54 William Roars at Margaret.
Divorce?
The word fell from Mary's lips with such nonchalance.
William felt a sudden lurch in his heart, silent, his hands trembling slightly on his knees.
In that instant, his head buzzed, and the word "divorce" seemed to echo endlessly in his ears.
He forgot to breathe and respond.
Mary was too disappointed in him.
"William, I really can't take it anymore. I don't want to continue living in fear, worrying about what the next day will bring, worrying about Sarah's condition every day. I gave you a year, you said you would give me an answer. But now, you've disappointed me too much."
Mary cried helplessly, tears rolling down one by one.
The William she had once deeply loved had become unbearable, had become decadent.
He had become someone she despised, detested, and looked down upon.
William's eyebrows raised, his eyes reddening, he asked."Mary, can you forgive me this time? I will change. I will try hard."
William didn't want to lose Mary.
In his heart, he always put Mary and Sarah first.
"Believe me, I will give you a future that everyone will envy." William said earnestly.
But Mary let out a self-mocking laugh, turned her face away, her appearance tear-stained, and with a questioning tone, she said. "A future? William, don't you think you've said that many times? But where is this future? You're always deceiving yourself, always unwilling to let go of your pride. How many times have I begged you? To bow your head and apologize to my parents, but you? For your pitiful self-esteem, you never listened to me. Now you talk to me about the future? What future? The one hundred BMW motorcycles? Or the Victory Grand Hotel?"
Mary had always kept the last bit of patience for William, but on this night, what he did made her lose that patience.
It was simply ridiculous!
Even if William was down and out, even if he was delivering takeouts, Mary never felt it was a problem.
But tonight, for his pathetic need to show off and his weak self-esteem, he actually did that.
It was a disgrace!
Such a disgrace.
How much longer would he deceive himself?
Mary naturally do not believe the words William said at the Victory Grand Hotel.
William hurriedly defended himself, "Mary, believe me. When the time comes, you will know."
"Enough, William!" Mary shouted, her emotions too intense, suddenly pulling at her abdominal wound, pain breaking out in cold sweat on her forehead. "Get out, I don't want to see you right now!"
Her anger pointed toward the door of the ward, a hint of determination flashing in her eyes.
William felt helpless, worried that Mary's emotional outburst would affect her health.
He gave up, stood up and said., Alright, I'll go out for now, but I do not agree to a divorce."
With that, William decisively got up and left the ward.
Just as he left the ward, he saw his mother-in-law and a few others sitting outside the door.
Seeing him come out, Margaret approached and asked coldly, "What do you say to my daughter? Do you mention divorce? I'm telling you, the Smith Family don't want Sarah either, take that burden away with you."
Margaret was very angry, wishing William would divorce her daughter right now and roll out of the Smith Family.
They had even funded their wedding house.
If it really didn't work out, she would kick out William and that disgraceful child together!
Seeing William not speaking, Margaret guessed something and pointed accusingly. "Do you not bring up divorce? I'm telling you, William, in this family, I am in charge, and you and Mary must divorce! I don't care if you agree or not, in a few days I will take you to the office to go through the procedures!"
Facing Margaret's domineering commands, William could no longer control his emotions, his face cold, he retorted. "Enough! I'm telling you. I will not divorce Mary!"
With that, he left with a heavy face.
Margaret was furious!
This good-for-nothing had just yelled at her!
She really didn't expect to be treated like this by her son-in-law.
"Fine, you've capable now; you even dare to yell at me, William; you won't be allowed into my house ever again! No way!"
Margaret stood with her hands on her hips, pointing at William's departing figure and shouting loudly.
"What are you doing? This is a hospital, no loud noises allowed!" A nurse came over with a stern face and scolded.
Margaret was taken aback, her heart filled with anger, she unreasonably pulled Tyler and complained. "Tyler, you saw it just now, that William is rebelling, even daring to yell at me. From now on, in our family, there's either me without him, or him without me."
Margaret was beside herself with rage, never before had such a good-for-nothing dared to talk to her like this.
"Alright, alright, can you say less? Do you really have to make a scene at this critical moment?" Tyler said helplessly.
He was very aware of Margaret's temper, having known it for decades.
William was really too rude!
After all, she was his mother-in-law, and he yelled at her like this.
However, Tyler was also slightly surprised; his son-in-law seemed a little different today.
"Don't you think William was a bit different today?" Tyler asked.
"What's different about him, he's still a good-for-nothing!" Margaret said dissatisfied.
Nancy and her parents watched from the side, their faces full of schadenfreude.
To them, William, their nephew-in-law, was just a joke, and they found it quite satisfying to curse him now and then.
Nancy was very happy today, seeing her good-for-nothing cousin-in-law being scolded made her feel good.
She kept broadcasting about William in the group, causing quite a stir.
Even a few guys made a remix video of William being scolded and posted it online, making him quite infamous for a while.
Because of this, William gained the title of Lindwood City's number-one good-for-nothing son-in-law.
At this time, Jeffery had paid the hospital fees and came over.
He had been watching from a corner the whole time.
Seeing William being scolded made him feel very pleased.
That good-for-nothing would never gain the respect of the elders.
"Tyler, Margaret, I've already paid the fees. I'll take care of Mary these next few days. It's also quite late now, why don't you go back first? I'll take care of her here." Jeffery appeared very polite, his smile making him seem approachable.
Margaret hurriedly grabbed Jeffery's hand, her face blooming with a smile. "Jeffery, how can we trouble you with this? How much money? I'll bring it to you tomorrow."
This child was sensible and pleasing .
Her daughter's charm was still quite good, and she was able to have so many boys around her.
She really didn't understand why her daughter insisted on marrying that scoundrel William, bringing shame to The Smith Family, unable to hold her head high in her maternal home because of premarital pregnancy.
Unfortunately, Margaret's maternal family was a traditional and influential clan.
Her daughter's premarital pregnancy had led to all sorts of disdain and contempt from her maternal family.
It had caused Margaret to lose face, unable to hold her head high in front of her family.
So, these past few years, Margaret had never returned to her maternal home, mainly for fear of losing face.
But this time she had no choice, her father's seventieth birthday was coming up, and she had to go back.
It was also because of this that Margaret's temper had been very irritable lately, especially when she saw William's lifeless face, it made her even more angry.
Jeffery hurriedly waved his hand, politely saying." Margaret, please let me do something for Mary."
Margaret didn't insist, holding Jeffery's hand, the more she looked at him, the more she liked him.
In the following two or three days, Jeffery came to visit Mary every day.
Of course, William also came.
But when Jeffery came, he received a warm reception from Margaret.
When William came, Margaret always had a dark face, as if they had a deep hatred.
Moreover, Margaret always found opportunities to say a few harsh words to William, from head to toe.
However, William never said anything.
Because he knew that Margaret was angry with him, so let her vent.
On this day, William, carrying a lunchbox, had just arrived at the hospital when he received a call from Charles.
"William, hello, we have studied your daughter Sarah's condition and the surgical plan. Shall I come over to report to you?" Charles's voice on the phone was very respectful.
If outsiders knew that the distinguished Professor Charles from HX's cardiology field was showing such respect to someone, it would certainly cause a sensation.
William said, "Okay, I'm at the City People's Hospital."
After hanging up the phone, William walked into Mary's ward with the lunchbox.
In the ward, Jeffery was sitting next to Mary's bed, talking to her.
"Mary, there's progress regarding Sarah's condition. I asked my dad to contact the top doctor in the country, Professor Charles. He happens to be in Lindwood City these days and should be free today to come and take a look."
Jeffery seemed very excited; this was something he had been asking his father to arrange for a long time.
