Chapter 64 Mary's Suspicion
Mary was at the hospital, desperately seeking help from anyone who might know a renowned doctor or could lend her some money. Unfortunately, her efforts were in vain.
At that moment, all the bonds of friendship and sisterhood seemed fragile and insubstantial. Everyone was afraid. They knew William was a good-for-nothing. How could they possibly afford to help her?
Just then, a notification from WhatsApp caught Mary's attention. It was from her cousin, Nancy. Mary opened the message to find a video and a voice message.
She listened to the voice message first, in which Nancy sounded slightly panicked. "Watch the video. Do you know what your husband is up to?"
Confusion clouded Mary's mind. She didn't understand what Nancy was trying to convey, so she decided to watch the video.
To her astonishment, the video showed William, surrounded by a group of men in suits, with a Jaguar parked nearby.
The respect and deference shown to William left Mary in shock. Was this really her husband, who had always been submissive and never dared to complain?
Mary felt a sudden sense of unfamiliarity toward William. After a moment of panic, she immediately called Nancy and asked. "Where did you film this? What does this video mean?"
Nancy, in turn, asked. "Don't you know what William does?"
"What does he do? Who are those people? Did he get into trouble?" Mary's heart raced, and she was convinced that William had gotten himself into a mess.
Mary couldn't think of any other explanation.
"I don't know either. William seems to have changed," Nancy hesitated.
She was also unsure.
How could someone who had always been a pushover suddenly become so respectable, especially to someone like Alan?
It was all too difficult to explain.
Mary was anxious and asked Nancy for more details. However, Nancy concealed many things, especially the fact that she owed someone a large sum of money. If their father found out about it, there would be serious consequences.
After hanging up the phone, Mary immediately called William, her voice filled with panic and her face tense.
But there was no answer.
She tried again, but still no response.
Mary's heart sank. She realized how worried she was about William.
Finally, the call went through.
"Mary, what's wrong? You called so many times," William's voice sounded somewhat lazy.
Mary felt a sense of relief upon hearing his familiar voice. "Where are you?" she asked.
William could sense Mary's concern and replied. "What's the matter, Mary? Why are you so anxious?"
"I'm asking where you were just now," Mary's tone was cold.
William came up with a lie and said, "I was delivering food."
Mary's face immediately turned cold when she heard William's lie. "Come to the hospital. I need to talk to you."
William dared to lie to me.
Delivering food in a Jaguar?
And with a group of people clearing the way?
Mary was not happy and hung up.
She lay angrily on the hospital bed, already thinking of a thousand reasons to argue with William.
She watched the video on her phone over and over again.
Mary was puzzled. This didn't seem like William getting into trouble and being controlled by someone.
It seemed more like the other person respectfully inviting William into the car.
Because Alan's face was not visible, Mary didn't recognize him, and Nancy didn't mention it.
Why didn't he say anything?
At that moment, at the Starlight Bar, Nancy and the others left in a panic.
But before they could take a few steps, a figure blocked their way.
"William." Nancy looked up and saw William standing in front of her.
She was so scared that she couldn't speak. Her best friend and Todd stood together, too afraid to look up at William.
A good-for-nothing, who had now become someone even Alan respected.
They were naturally very afraid. Was he here to seek revenge on them?
However, William frowned and calmly asked, "Did you see it?"
Nancy was so nervous that she stuttered for a long time and shook her head desperately. "I… I didn't see anything."
What was William going to do?
Was he going to silence her?
William smiled and took the phone from Nancy's hand, looked at the video that had been sent out, frowned, and said, "What else did you and your cousin talk about?"
William was feeling a bit annoyed now.
Did Mary know about his identity?
It wasn't the right time!
Nancy was in a panic and shook her head. "I didn't say anything."
William deleted the video from the phone and handed it back to Nancy, saying. "I'm still Mary's husband. Don't worry, they are just friends I met a while ago. You can't tell anyone about this, including your cousin, understand? And you guys, got it?"
His tone was flat, without any threat.
But it put a huge amount of pressure on Nancy and the others.
Nancy had never thought that one day, William would give her so much pressure!
"I got it."
Everyone nodded frantically.
"I've paid back the money for you. Don't hang out with those unsavory people in the future, get it?" William said, frowning, as if lecturing the younger generation.
If it had been before, Nancy would have definitely gone up and slapped him, and then pointed at his nose and cursed at him.
But now it was different. She didn't dare and just nodded. "I get it."
It wasn't until William left on his old electric bike that Mary and the others' tense nerves relaxed.
Her back was already soaked, and her straight and slender legs were trembling slightly.
"Nancy, your cousin is so scary."
"I've never seen anyone with no expression. I was almost scared to death just now."
"Don't mess with him! Where is the good-for-nothing? Let's have less contact in the future."
A few people, a few words.
Even after William left, their nervousness didn't subside.
Nancy was also afraid and curious.
Was her cousin really so powerful?
After Nancy's emotions settled, she immediately thought of a question.
Since no one else knew about William's identity, can she use this to threaten him?
Could it be that her cousin's husband is a hidden second-generation rich or a big shot?
Did he pretend to be poor just to experience life?
It was possible!
Because so far, the Smiths were not clear about William's past.
Even when he married Mary, his parents never came.
Realizing this, the panicked look on Nancy's face immediately disappeared, and she became extremely calculating, with a cold smile on her lips.
"William, I finally have something to hold over you! Today, let me see you be arrogant for a while!" Nancy snorted, her eyes sharp and cunning.
Back at the hospital, William saw a sulking Mary.
With a smile on his face, William said. "What's wrong, Mary? What's so urgent that you called me?"
Mary had already sat up, looking at William with a cold face, and said, "Are you lying to me now?"
Lie?
Before William could explain, Mary handed him the phone and asked in an interrogative tone. "Is this a delivery?"
"No," William said, scratching his head awkwardly.
"How could you be with these people?" Mary's face grew colder.
If William couldn't come up with a good explanation today, she would definitely teach him a lesson.
"Can I say I don't know them?" William said calmly.
"You don't? Then why get in the car?" Mary was angry.
William thought for a moment, pulled out a chair and sat down, and said very calmly. "I found the young man who stabbed you last time. His family is quite wealthy, and I went to talk to them about compensation."
"Found him?" Mary was puzzled.
Although she was somewhat puzzled, William's efforts still moved her.
"What did the other party say?" Mary asked.
"They'll compensate for it. I have to go and talk about it again in the next few days," William said.
In the hospital room, the atmosphere became heavy.
"What do you think about Sarah 's surgery?" Mary suddenly asked, her voice soft, seeking advice.
"I've already contacted a well-known doctor. If everything goes well, according to the plan, Sarah can be admitted to the hospital for treatment tomorrow," William said, bowing.
"Which doctor? What's his name? I'll have Jeffery check," Mary suddenly asked.
William thought for a moment, raised an eyebrow, and said, "Actually, the doctor I found is…"
