Chapter 187 No More Pretending
Margaret looked at the menu and saw that the shark fin soup cost $6000 and an Australian lobster was $2000.
What's more, a bottle of 1982 Lafite cost $10,000.
"Isaac, isn't this too expensive?" Margaret was a bit nervous.
Isaac smiled, snapped his fingers at the waiter and said, "Bring us all your specialty, a bottle of Lafite. Furthermore, open a VIP membership card for me."
Margaret was overjoyed. Isaac seemed much better than William.
Soon, the dishes were served, and the waiter respectfully handed a newly opened VIP card to Isaac.
"Aunt Margaret, this is my classmate's restaurant. With this membership card, you'll get a 40% discount whenever you dine here."
Isaac handed the card to Margaret and added, "Of course, all of this is on my tab."
Margaret took the VIP card joyfully, and her eyes brimming with satisfaction. "Oh, thank you so much. You're so thoughtful. Marry will be the happiest bride when she marries you."
Upon hearing Margaret's words, Isaac smiled and said, "Aunt Margaret, in your opinion, when is Mary going to divorce him?"
Margaret squinted her eyes, as if she had long known Isaac's feelings for Mary. Isaac was such an outstanding man that she would definitely approve of their relationship.
"Isaac, don't worry. I'm here today to talk about it." Margaret grinned, pointing to her bruised face.
Isaac had noticed the bruise on her face for the first time, but he didn't know where the injury came from.
"Aunt Margaret, who did this to you?" Isaac asked.
Margaret angrily replied, "Who else could it be but William? He sent a man."
"What?"
Isaac's fists clenched tightly. "What? William is outrageous. How dare he! He doesn't respect you at all. Didn't Mary say anything?"
Margaret feigned deep anguish and anger, her voice trembling as she spoke, "Yes, William is getting more and more outrageous. He even dares to hit me. Even if Mary knew it, she would side with William. I feel so helpless at home now. William, that useless, violent, and dark bastard, is not qualified to be my son-in-law. Isaac, you have to help me."
Margaret was now crying her eyes out.
Isaac quickly comforted her, "Aunt Margaret, don't worry. If William dares to do so again, I won't let him off."
"Isaac, don't you have connections in the underworld? Can you help me find someone to teach William a lesson?"
Margaret pleaded with Isaac, looking at Isaac with teary eyes.
She couldn't live with it that William was still unpunished and her anger had yet to be vented.
Isaac hesitated. He suddenly recalled the incident at Alinea, and felt a bit apprehensive.
If William was really sent by the Jones Group in Imperial City, wouldn't Margaret know?
"Aunt Margaret, it might be complicated. Do you know what William does?"Isaac said awkwardly.
Margaret sensed his hesitation, and then sneered, "He's a good-for-nothing. What else could he do? He’s just a delivery man."
"Just a delivery man?"
Isaac was skeptical and recounted the incident at Alinea in detail.
Margaret was so scared that her face turned pale as she heard it. She muttered, "Isaac, don't fool me. Are you saying William is the Mr. Jones in Imperial City?"
Isaac didn't want to believe it either.
"That is impossible."
Margaret shook her head vigorously. "You must have seen or heard wrong. William is a good-for-nothing. He can't be Mr. Jones."
Absolutely impossible.
William had been a useless son-in-law in the Smith Family for three years, always submissive, and never changed.
If there was anything different, it was that William had become a bit ruthless recently.
But Margaret didn't pay much attention to it.
At most, William was tired of living and wanted to challenge her authority.
Upon hearing Margaret's words, Isaac was still skeptical and asked, "Aunt Margaret, could William hide anything from you? Think carefully, it is important. If we can know his identity, I'll know how to deal with him."
Margaret fell into deep thought. After a long time, she said, "Impossible. Absolutely impossible. I know William very well. You must have been deceived by him. I think he's probably pretending to be Mr. Jones to impress us. He has done such shameless things before."
With that, Isaac finally breathed a sigh of relief.
'So that's how it is. Damn you, William, you really gave me a scare. I thought he had some special identity, but it turns out you're just putting on a show,' Isaac thought.
"Since you say so, then it's no problem. He is just a useless guy; I'll call someone to deal with him right away," Isaac said.
Isaac casually sat back in his chair, took out his phone, and made a call. "Bro, where are you? I need you to help me teach a man a lesson."
As he spoke, Isaac glanced at Margaret, who remained silent, clearly harboring disdain for William.
With that, Mary would eventually divorce William.
By then, getting married to Mary would be as easy as pie.
Afterward, Margaret enjoyed the meal and even discussed with Isaac how to help him win Mary over.
"Isaac, listen to me. Tomorrow, come to my house and I'll call Mary to come over. You two had dated in high school, so reigniting that flame would be a breeze," Margaret said on her way out.
Isaac was excited. He hadn't expected Margaret to be so supportive. With a mother-in-law who only loved money, he couldn't fathom how William had endured these three years.
"Alright, I'll book the tickets today and be at your house tomorrow. When the time comes, please put in a good word for me."
Isaac smiled. After the meal, he sent Margaret back to the Smith Family's old house.
As soon as she got home, Margaret started causing trouble.
She kept calling Mary and said, "Mary, come home, I want to ask you something."
Margaret was in high spirits, especially when she heard that the Jones Group had invested a billion dollars in Mary's company.
This substantial investment meant Mary's net worth had soared over a billion dollars, elevating her into the elite ranks.
'Who is that Mr. Jones? He is so wealthy. Could he be interested in Mary?' Margaret thought.
Margaret told Tyler about it. She muttered, "Tyler, do you think Mr. Jones might be interested in Mary? Otherwise, he won't invest in her company for no reason. I heard from Isaac that the Jones Group is very influential in Imperial City and is worth hundreds of billions."
Tyler was busy with his birds, so he didn't bother to respond to Margaret and said, "Are you eyeing that Mr. Jones? Calm down. Haven't you had enough trouble?"
Margaret got angry at his words and scolded, "You don't understand! I'm trying to secure a good future for Mary. It's all for her future."
Tyler just shook his head helplessly without saying anything further.
Shortly after, Mary came back with William, who was worried that Margaret would cause trouble again.
Upon seeing William, Margaret felt a bit guilty and scared, avoiding eye contact with him and muttering under her breath.
Although William couldn't hear her words, he sensed her animosity towards him.
He thought Margaret really needed a beating to learn her lesson.
"Mom, what's the matter?"
Mary asked, eager to leave home as soon as possible.
"Mary, did Mr. Jones invest a billion dollars in your company?" Margaret asked as she held Mary's hand.
"Yes, how do you know?" Mary was curious.
"Never mind. Do you know Mr. Jones?"
Margaret got more excited, and then asked, "Do you have any connection with him? Are you hiding something from me? Does he like you? If so, invite him over for dinner sometime and introduce me to him."
Margaret looked expectant.
"Mom, what are you talking about? I don't know Mr. Jones at all. Don't overthink it. It's just business."
Mary was exasperated. How could Margaret be more fickle than a young girl?
William finally understood. Margaret knew about the Jones Group's investment and was now obsessed over Mr. Jones.
If she knew that the mysterious Mr. Jones was standing right in front of her, what would her reaction be?
"What are you smirking at? Get out!"
Margaret noticed William's smirk and glared at him uncomfortablly.
At this moment, William shook his head helplessly, stepped forward, and said, "I can tell you who Mr. Jones is."
He decided to stop pretending.
