Chapter 400 Who Is the Real Loser
William had scribbled his name down.
Margaret snatched up the agreement, eyeballed it for a bit, and couldn't help but grin. "This villa's mine now. Tomorrow, you're coming with me to sort out the transfer."
She shot William a nasty look as she spoke.
'Pathetic loser, you think you can mess with me? Just wait and see how I crush you!' she thought.
William's face went cold. Ignoring the crowd around the agreement, he headed straight upstairs.
It was just a villa; he couldn't care less. What mattered was what Mary thought of him.
Upstairs, back in the master bedroom, William saw Mary lying on the bed and quietly walked over.
Mary wasn't asleep. When William got into bed, she turned to him, hugged him, and asked, "William, are you hiding something from me?"
William held Mary, took a deep breath, and then smiled. "Nah, just get some sleep."
A sleepless night dragged on.
The next morning, Margaret was downstairs early with Delia and Ulysses.
Mary had already left for work.
William asked Lucy to take Sarah out for a bit before he went downstairs.
"William, do you even know what time it is? What are you doing? Did you forget about last night? Hurry up and come with me to handle the transfer," Margaret snapped, clutching her purse with the property deed inside, looking like she was about to take over the house.
As soon as William's name was off the deed and the property was in her name, this villa would be hers!
She'd been waiting for this day forever.
"Yeah, always dragging your feet, never knowing what to do, loser!" Delia chimed in.
William frowned, his face darkening, but he kept quiet and followed them to the property management office.
Soon enough, with the staff's help, Villa No.1 was officially transferred to Margaret, and William's name was off the deed.
Margaret hugged the property deed, grinning like a Cheshire cat.
"William, from now on, this house is mine. You better behave!" Margaret declared arrogantly, carefully tucking the deed into her bag and glaring at William with disdain.
William was just a bankrupt loser. How dare he think he was somebody?
William said nothing, just gave her a faint look.
To him, it was just a villa. Giving it away didn't matter to him at all.
If Margaret knew that William could have as many villas as he wanted, she'd definitely regret today's decision.
So, William turned and left.
Margaret watched him go, feeling super pleased with herself.
Finally, this loser had lost to her.
"Margaret, can our family move into the villa now?" Delia asked, full of flattery.
"Don't worry. The villa's mine now. You can live there as long as you want," Margaret said generously, her face beaming with undisguised joy.
It proved that William was just a loser!
She really didn't get why Mary fell for him. Was it because William had money?
But he went bankrupt now.
Delia immediately started dancing with joy, thanking Margaret profusely, almost putting her on a pedestal.
In the afternoon, Margaret called Mary and William back home.
She said it was Ragnar Kipling's birthday, and they needed to visit him.
Ragnar's family had made their fortune early, doing foreign trade. They were moderately wealthy, considered well-off.
They were just distant relatives.
William had been there twice in the past two years, always coming back with a dark face because he was always the one being ridiculed, making Mary lose dignity as well.
And every time they returned home, Margaret would scold him.
But things were different now. Margaret had a villa, and Mary was the chairman of BK Pharmaceuticals. Their situation was much better than Ragnar's family.
This was also why Ragnar's family had so formally invited Mary's family this time, even delivering the invitation in person.
"Where have you been? Why are you back so late? Did you buy a gift?" Margaret scolded, annoyed when she saw William returning leisurely.
She had regained her former confidence and didn't take William seriously at all.
William shook his head and said, "I'll go upstairs and get it."
He had indeed forgotten to buy a gift, but he remembered there were some worthless items upstairs that he could give away.
Of course, these "worthless" items were only worthless to William.
For example, the set of cutlery he brought down from upstairs, which someone had given him last time.
It was quite expensive, valued at four hundred thousand dollars.
Seeing William come down with a gift box, Margaret kept her mouth shut.
Delia's family brought some gifts too. They were all things from the villa, stuff William had bought for Mary, including some pricey supplements.
Delia had sneakily stashed a few boxes for herself.
When Mary got back, the whole crew headed to Ragnar's place.
It was a modest villa, just over 3,000 square feet.
As soon as they stepped into the living room, they saw most folks had already arrived.
Relatives were chatting away, throwing compliments around.
But when they spotted William, the room went dead silent, everyone giving him weird looks.
Someone finally broke the ice, "Margaret, Mary, we've been waiting for you. Come, sit down."
Another relative chimed in, "Mary, you're looking more beautiful every day. The company must be keeping you busy, but you still made time to come. You are so considerate."
A voice echoed, "Yeah, who would've thought our family would have a big shot like Mary."
Everyone started showering Mary with praise, crowding around her.
William, though, was totally ignored.
Margaret, as Mary's mom, soaked up the praise and admiration. She sat there like a queen, ruling the room.
Basking in the relatives' compliments, Margaret was over the moon, constantly praising Mary for being sensible, not mentioning William at all.
Delia deliberately brought up William, her face cold. "William, what are you standing there for? Go get us some tea. You good-for-nothing."
Almost as soon as Delia finished, all the relatives looked at William with smug grins.
Mary looked at William, feeling helpless. She was about to get up to help when Margaret pulled her back, saying, "It's fine. Let him do it. You're pregnant. Don't get involved."
As soon as the baby was mentioned, everyone got excited, bombarding Mary with questions and compliments.
William didn't mind, heading to the kitchen and skillfully washing the teacups and making tea.
He'd been here a few times, always serving tea and water, so he knew the drill.
Soon, Ragnar's family came down from the second floor.
Ragnar was still pretty spry. He had a son, Solon Kipling, a daughter-in-law, Alexis Kipling, a granddaughter, Chloe Kipling, and her husband, Inigo Goldwyn. His wife had passed away a few years ago.
Ragnar entered, supported by Solon and Alexis, leaning on a cane, and sat down in the main seat with a big smile. He asked, "Is everyone here?"
The relatives all stood up, offering simple congratulations and presenting their gifts.
When it was William's turn, he brought the gift box up. Inigo, Ragnar's grandson-in-law, sneered, "Oh, it's a big gift. What precious thing is wrapped so tightly? I remember a few years ago, you only brought some fruit and oatmeal."
William gave Inigo a cold look; they had a long-standing grudge.
Inigo was a real lowlife, constantly fooling around with other women. Chloe had caught him several times.
But somehow, he always managed to weasel his way back into Chloe's good graces.
Before William could reply, someone sneered, "What good thing could he bring? Just a loser."
Another chimed in, "Exactly, I bet there's only a few hundred bucks' worth of stuff in that box, wrapped so tightly to avoid embarrassment."
A voice mocked, "Poor Mary, married to such a useless guy, having to work hard herself."
A group of people started sneering disdainfully. William had been a useless loser for three years.
Who said William had become something great now?
He still looked like a loser!
Seeing William getting ridiculed, Margaret was thrilled.
Mary wanted to get up and explain, but Margaret pulled her back, giving her a warning glare.
"Alright, it's my birthday today. Let's not make a joke of it," Ragnar spoke up.
Everyone quieted down, not dwelling on the gift.
Mary found an opportunity, pulling William aside, and asked, "Are you okay? Should we leave? You know they still have the bad impression of you. If you're unhappy, I'll tell them the truth."
Mary was really upset. She wanted to tell them that William was not a loser!
William was better than any of them!
The villa was bought by him, his friends invested three billion dollars in BK Pharmaceuticals, and he was the heir to the Jones Group in Imperial City!
Then, she turned and walked toward the group of people chatting and laughing.
