Chapter 391 The Jones Family

A researcher yelled, "Smoke everywhere! Must be a fire! Get in there and save 'em!"

He bolted, not even seeing what was going down in the lab. Just smoke everywhere, and then everyone was booking it outta there. No one had a clue what was really happening inside.

Upon hearing the lab was on fire, Quillon broke out in a cold sweat.

He used to just coast along with his team, but today's chaos was a serious wake-up call.

Quillon grabbed the researcher by the collar, "Where's Ms. Smith? Did you see her?"

"I don't know, man! Everyone was running, smoke was too thick. No idea where Ms. Smith is!" the researcher stammered, looking pale and scared out of his mind.

"Cowards!" Quillon spat.

Surprisingly, he wasn't scared. He knew if anything happened to Mary, he'd be the first to get canned.

He'd busted his butt to become head of security. Losing this gig meant no money for his kid's school and tutoring.

He couldn't let anything happen to Mary.

He shouted and led a few guys inside, but then he saw William, covered in blood, carrying Mary out of the smoke.

Quillon's heart skipped a beat.

"William, Mary? You guys okay?" he asked, voice shaky.

William glanced at Quillon, nodded, and said coldly, "Two people inside. Find a quiet room and lock 'em up. I'll be there soon."

Quillon, pale and stammering, asked, "Should we call the cops?"

William frowned, "No, keep it quiet. Don't let the rest of the company know. We'll handle it."

"Okay. Guys, let's go!" Quillon shouted, leading a few people into the lab, only to be hit by the strong smell of blood.

Meanwhile, everyone watched as William carried Mary into her office.

They couldn't help but think, 'Damn, that's what a real man looks like!'

The female employees were all looking at Mary with envy.

In Mary's office, William locked the door and carried her to the sofa.

William sat down, making it look like Mary was sitting on his lap, holding onto his neck.

Mary, regaining some strength, tried to get up.

William pressed her shoulder firmly, "Don't move. Let me check your neck."

Mary stopped moving.

She finally let out a sigh of relief. She'd been scared out of her mind.

If it weren't for William, she'd be dead in that lab.

Mary recalled the suffocating feeling. It was terrifying.

Ghosthawk had shown no mercy.

At that moment, Mary felt she was facing death for the first time.

But William showed up and saved her, giving her a huge sense of security.

The marks on her neck still stung.

Mary turned her head slightly, seeing William's determined face.

She thought, 'This is my husband, always there in danger.'

"Don't move," William said.

Seeing Mary awkwardly turning her neck, he held her face and straightened her up.

"Does it still hurt?" William asked, eyes flashing with cold light as he looked at the bruises.

"It's okay," Mary said, shaking her head.

"Wait here. I'll get something," William said.

He picked Mary up again, carefully placed her on the sofa, and hurried out.

Mary sat on the sofa, touched her neck, and couldn't help but think about William.

She'd seen his terrifying fighting skills before, and apart from some lingering fear, she was mostly worried.

As she recalled the lab scene and William showing up at the critical moment, her eyes lit up.

In just a moment, William returned with a small medicine bottle.

Holding the red bottle of medicine, William said, "Sit tight."

Mary straightened up like a kid trying to impress the teacher.

Up close, her neck appeared as fair as alabaster, but the bruises and cuts were brutal.

As William poured the liquid medicine into his hand and rubbed it to warm it up, he said, "You're too pretty to have scars on your neck."

Mary looked up at him, her eyes sparkling.

"It might sting a bit at first, but it'll cool down soon. Just hang in there," William said gently.

He warmed the liquid medicine in his hands, then dipped his fingers into it and gently applied it to Mary's neck.

His touch was careful and soft. At first, Mary felt a sting, but soon it turned cool.

Whether it was the liquid medicine or just her mind playing tricks, Mary felt the pain ease, and the bruises seemed to fade a bit.

"All done," William said, putting away the medicine and instinctively blowing on her neck.

The cool breath mixed with the medicine made Mary shiver, like ants crawling on her skin.

Mary handed him a tissue.

"What's this for?" William asked, confused.

"To wipe the sweat off your forehead," Mary replied.

William grinned cheekily. "I want you to do it."

Mary rolled her eyes, stood up, and said with a playful smile, "In your dreams."

William shrugged and laughed, wiping his forehead with his hand.

Mary walked to her desk, grabbed a cup, and took a few sips of water. Her heart finally calmed down, and she felt much better.

Today's situation was really dangerous. Why were there two assassins in the lab?

The researchers in the lab were all top-notch pros Mary had hired. No one could get in without proper ID.

But how did the assassins get in, and who let them in?

Mary had to seriously think about who was behind this.

Her mind was clouded with doubt.

Were they bribed?

But even if they were, how did they have such terrifying fighting skills?

Or was there a mole in the lab?

Mary was puzzled, and this doubt made her feel a chill. If there really was a mole, and they weren't caught, more big things would happen.

William looked at Mary, figuring she was okay, and then said, "You should rest here for a bit. I'll go check on the lab."

Today's incident was a huge wake-up call for him.

He had underestimated the determination and strength of the hidden enemies.

Their incessant targeting of Mary was a deliberate provocation toward him.

No matter who was behind this, he had to find them out!

This time it was a smoke bomb in the lab. What if next time they directly kidnapped Mary?

Today's two assassins only cared about profit and their mission!

Mary was only safe because he was there.

He would do everything in his power to protect Mary. If anyone tried to harm Mary or BK Pharmaceuticals, they would pay a heavy price!

Those two assassins were top-notch and unbeatable in this city.

But unfortunately for them, they ran into William.

William had to get to the bottom of this, or he wouldn't feel at ease.

If necessary, he would use some methods to intimidate those lurking in the shadows.

"I'll go with you," Mary said, standing up.

She knew what William was going to do, and she wanted to see it too.

William shook his head and looked at her. "No, you can't go. Just wait here."

His gaze was tender, but there was undeniable firmness behind it.

"I'm worried about you," Mary said, her eyes full of concern and worry.

"Don't worry. I can handle it," William said, pressing Mary's shoulder and smiling slightly.

"Could it be that those people are afraid of you because of the Jones family?" Mary suddenly asked, looking at William with confusion and worry.

William's body tensed, and he stared at Mary.

How did Mary know about that?

Was it because of that conversation with Harper?
