Chapter 448 The Prelude to Destruction
Zander felt the sweat trickling down his back. He couldn't shake the image of Isaiah, still in a coma at the hospital.
Isaiah used to be the top dog butler for the Gonzales family.
But no matter how much Zander pressed him, Isaiah never spilled the beans about what happened to him that year.
The injury itself wasn't the worst part; it was that right after it happened, Isaiah got booted from the Gonzales family's inner circle.
Every time Zander brought it up, Isaiah looked scared out of his mind.
Why was William bringing up Isaiah now? Did he know the real story? Or was he behind it? No way, that couldn't be!
William grinned at Zander, and just like that, the handcuffs shattered!
Zander felt a chill run through him, and his eyelids twitched.
Seeing William stand up, Zander pulled a gun from his waist, aimed it at William, and yelled, "What are you doing? Hands up, squat down!"
William shrugged, stopped, and said, "Why so jumpy? Didn't you say this was Gonzales's territory? Why so nervous? Don't you want to know why Isaiah got hurt so bad back then?"
Zander snapped, "Who the hell are you?"
"Don't give me that look. Isaiah knows me, the Gonzales family heads know me too, but you don't. How pathetic you are," William said, shaking his fist with a smile. "Do you know why the Gonzales family kept quiet after what happened eight years ago? They messed with someone they shouldn't have."
William clenched his fist to drive the point home.
"Who are you? What's your deal?" Zander asked, still holding the gun, ready to fire.
Zander only knew that Isaiah was sent by the Gonzales family that day, and when he came back, he was a wreck.
But Isaiah never said what went down that day.
Something big must've happened; otherwise, the Gonzales family would've gone all out for revenge.
"You wanna know who I am?" William crossed his arms. "If I tell you, everyone in your family will be begging for mercy."
Zander's eyebrows knitted together. Even with a gun, he could see William wasn't scared at all. It was Zander who felt cornered. What was William hiding?
Zander wasn't dumb; William's calmness screamed trouble. William was not to be messed with, or he'd end up like Isaiah! But now, he'd already pissed William off!
Under pressure, people panicked. William looked at the panicked Zander, still smiling, but to Zander, it looked like a demon's grin.
"Don't make any rash moves. Think before you act. What the Gonzales family is doing now is a death wish," William said softly.
"Don't try to scare me. The Gonzales family isn't as simple as you think!" Zander sneered.
"Maybe to you, the Gonzales family is a big deal," William smiled slightly, "But to me, they're nothing."
For a long time, Zander had been totally intimidated by William's presence.
But now, on his own turf and with William surrounded by his men, why did he feel so suffocated by William's pressure?
Not long ago, Zander might've felt a bit cocky. He'd done this kind of thing plenty of times. But now, knowing the guy in front of him was the one who messed up Isaiah, Zander realized he'd made a huge mistake. He'd crossed someone he shouldn't have, and this was a dead end!
"Did you really mess up Isaiah?" Zander asked, looking at William, his brows furrowed. He still couldn't believe what was happening, his mind racing to piece it all together. He had to make the right call fast, or he'd ruin his life.
This wasn't about Zander being a coward, but as William said, some people were just not to be messed with.
"Looks like you're not dumb. I don't need to hide anything. Yeah, it was me," William said, grinning. To everyone there, that smile was terrifying.
Zander's face was a mix of emotions as he slowly put his gun away.
After a moment, he said, "You can go."
"You're letting me go? Did I hear that right?" William looked at Zander playfully.
"Yeah, leave now! Before I change my mind," Zander said quickly, looking up to see William's mocking eyes, which made him shiver. A sense of doom washed over him.
