Chapter 55 Who Invited Professor Charles?

William walked in, placed the lunch box on the table, and then started peeling an apple, silently listening to the conversation between Jeffery and Mary.
Jeffery and Mary seemed to be oblivious to William's presence, treating him as if he were invisible.
"Really, Jeffery? Is it Professor Charles?" Mary's excitement was palpable, her eyes sparkling with anticipation.
She knew Charles, an internationally renowned cardiologist, often hailed as a medical luminary.
Ever since Sarah fell ill, Mary had researched extensively, and Charles's name stood out.
If they could get Charles to treat Sarah, it would be a sure cure.
But the challenge was getting her.
A medical luminary like Charles wasn't easily accessible.
Mary was well aware of the effort and connections required to seek Charles's help for Sarah .
It was a favor she couldn't possibly repay.
Jeffery smiled. "Don't worry, Mary. I've always treated Sarah as my own daughter. Her well-being is my priority. Charles happens to be visiting Lindwood City, where the Loren Hospital is located. Your company should be familiar with it."
"And, my father and Professor Charles have a personal relationship, so I can assure you that I'll take care of Sarah's surgery."
Jeffery's face was filled with genuine sincerity.
In Mary's eyes, Jeffery would go to great lengths for anything she favored.
But his intentions were simply to win Mary's heart.
William, who observed it all, felt a sense of displeasure.
What right did Jeffery have to claim he treated Sarah as his own daughter?
Mary felt a tinge of awkwardness, but her gratitude outweighed it. "Jeffery, thank you so much."
As she spoke, her gaze subtly shifted to William, who was still peeling the apple, a hint of helplessness and disappointment in her eyes.
A father who seemed less concerned about his own daughter's condition than an outsider.
At that moment, William's phone rang. He glanced at the caller ID, then left the ward.
"William, I'm on my way to the hospital. Where are you?" Charles's voice, full of admiration, came through the phone, sounding exceptionally excited.
William frowned." I'm in room 1302. Don't come here. Wait for me in the rest area."
To avoid unnecessary trouble, William decided to meet privately.
"Alright, I'll be there in five minutes." Charles said, then waited for William to hang up first.
This was the power of the global first family.
Even in a phone call, the other party had to wait for him to hang up first.
Back in the ward, Jeffery asked in a nonchalant tone. "William, who were you talking to? If you're busy, you can go back first. After all, delivering takeout on time is important. I will take care of Maryr."
Jeffery didn't see himself as an outsider at all.
On the contrary, in Jeffery's eyes, William was now in a lowly position.
Mary saw this scene; her lips moved, and she wanted to speak, but she held back.
What's the use of speaking up for him? He was still the same.
However, unexpectedly, William smiled and said, "I've arranged for a doctor to come and check on Sarah ."
This seemingly calm statement caused a ripple in Mary's heart, her eyes gleaming as she fixed her gaze on William.
But Jeffery immediately sneered. "Did you arrange for a doctor for Sarah? What kind of doctor can you find? Do you even know what's wrong with Sarah? Can any doctor treat her?"
After Jeffery's sarcastic remarks, Mary's eyes dimmed once again.
Indeed, what kind of doctor could William find for Sarah?
Could they be as skilled as Professor Charles?
But it wasn't a bad thing that he cared about Sarah's condition.
At least, a soft spot for William remained in Mary's heart.
William pursed his lips and said calmly. "Why can't I? Sarah is my daughter. Is there something wrong with me arranging a doctor for her?"
He was displeased with Jeffery's attitude.
This guy was acting as if Sarah was his daughter.
"Alright, then I really want to see how capable the doctor you find is." Jeffery said, stepping forward and patting William on the shoulder, his gaze challenging. "Coincidentally, I have an appointment with Charles today. Why don't we meet together and let the doctor you find also come and compare the two treatment plans?"
What a pretense. It was all an excuse to humiliate William.
In his understanding, Charles, whom his father had contacted through his connections, was a medical authority.
Was there anyone more capable than him in this world?
I'm afraid that the quack doctor William found would be scared to death when he saw Charles.
So, Jeffery's intention in saying this was clear. He wanted to see William make a fool of himself.
It was simply overestimating his own abilities to compete with me, Jeffery.
William frowned. He had only said that to avoid being looked down upon by Jeffery and misunderstood by Mary.
But now, Jeffery's aggressive attitude made William feel very uneasy.
He probably didn't know Charles, whom he had worked so hard to contact, but he took the initiative to contact William and showed great respect.
Should he tell them?
William didn't want to expose it and sighed. "Forget it, as long as you're happy."
William didn't want to cause unhappiness to everyone. After all, his mother-in-law had been very concerned about Jeffery for the past two or three days.
If he angered Margaret, William would definitely be in trouble.
And he was also looking for a doctor for his own daughter.
From this perspective, William felt that there was no need to make Jeffery lose face.
But this was only once.
"William, you're kiting me?" Jeffery mocked, looking at the other party and feeling more and more like a waste. "To be honest, I really want to see if the doctor you find is capable. After all, this is a big deal. If some random doctor treats Sarah and something goes wrong, can you take the responsibility?"
This sentence was very harsh, making Mary's heart beat faster.
"William, thank you for finding a doctor for Sarah, but I think Sarah still needs a more professional doctor to see her. I'll leave this matter to Jeffery." Mary's voice was cold, and she didn't want her daughter to wake up on the operating table.
So, in William's ears, her words were the biggest form of distrust.
William didn't care; it was just a blow to his own face.
As long as Charles treated Sarah, it didn't matter who arranged it.
"Thank Jeffery quickly; what are you standing there for?" Mary's eyebrows furrowed, a little dissatisfied with William's attitude.
He was actually standing there humbly, despite all the help.
"Thank you." William said.
As long as it was Mary's request, William would comply.
A simple thank you wouldn't diminish his worth.
Jeffery was very pleased, raising his chin, adjusting his suit, and saying, "You're welcome."
After a while, William found an opportunity to come to the hospital's rest area.
Charles, dressed in a gray suit, followed by two apprentices, patiently waited.
At the first sight of William, Charles walked over with great respect, bowing and smiling. "William."
The two apprentices behind him were also astonished.
Their teacher was an internationally renowned medical professor, with numerous disciples and a long list of prominent figures he had treated.
This teacher, who was so respected by everyone, had shown such respect to a young man in ordinary clothes.
Who was he?
On what basis?
William nodded slightly and said calmly. "Time is short, let's get straight to the point."
Charles immediately had his apprentice hand over the proposal book and personally began to explain it to William.
In the end, William nodded and agreed to the proposal, asking, "When can the surgery be performed?"
Charles said, "One week from now. During this week, we will conduct a comprehensive examination and preparation for Miss. Jones."
William nodded and said, "Thank you, Charles."
Charles was very anxious and said, "William, please rest assured that this surgery will be a success."
After the conversation, William was ready to leave, feeling more confident.
Just as he was about to leave, he heard an excited shout from behind. "Charles! I can't believe you're here. It's so good to see you."
Jeffery had originally planned to contact his father to know the Charles’ shcedule, then, he would make a visit.
Jeffery went up to shake hands with Charles, introducing himself with a smile. "Hello, Charles, I'm Jeffery, Percy's son."
As he spoke, Jeffery glanced to the side and saw William standing not far from Charles. Immediately, his face darkened and he exclaimed. "What are you doing here?"
