Chapter 301 What's the Name of Your Friend?
"How did you end up here?" William asked, looking at Susan in front of him.
"I'm here today to teach that bitch a lesson. It's all because of her that you got grounded by your family. If it weren't for her, you would have already returned..." Susan blurted out without thinking!
William was startled and quickly slapped her hard, shouting angrily, "Who allowed you to hit my wife!"
A second later, Susan would have exposed William's identity.
He had no choice. With her face reddened from the slap, Susan covered it with her hands, her eyes brimming with tears. She glared angrily at William and Mary and snapped, "William, you'll regret this!"
With that, she turned and stormed off in her high heels.
Meanwhile, Mary had a gloomy expression and a conspicuous red handprint on her left cheek.
"When will you finally cut ties with her?" Mary asked coldly, her eyes glistening with tears.
William was too indecisive. Why did his ex-fiancée keep harassing her?
Feeling uncomfortable, Mary turned and walked away in her high heels.
Feeling helpless, William watched Mary's back and hurriedly chased after her.
In the hospital, many people were pointing and whispering.
In the car, Mary sat in the passenger seat, silently wiping her tears. She didn't speak to William for a long time, nor did she even look at him.
William said, "Honey, I was wrong. It's my fault for being indecisive and not handling things well with her. But please believe me, I really only love you and Sarah."
As he said, he tentatively held Mary's small hand, but she shook it off, saying coldly, "Take me home."
William remained silent, driving Mary back to the villa.
After parking the car, Mary got out with a cold demeanor, entered the villa, and went straight to the second floor, ignoring Margaret, who was watching TV in the living room.
Margaret's face was still a bit swollen. Seeing Mary return in a bad mood, she frowned.
Did she have a fight with William?
Soon after, she saw William enter the living room, and she quickly stood up, forcing a smile.
Last night's slaps from William had left Margaret a bit traumatized.
"You're back? Did you have a fight with Mary?" Margaret asked tentatively.
William just gave Margaret a cold look and said, "It's none of your business."
With that, William went upstairs.
Margaret was so angry she was trembling but had no choice but to hold it in.
After William went upstairs, she angrily kicked the sofa, threw a tantrum, and shouted, "Lucy, get out! I want some water!"
Upon hearing the shout, Lucy, who was doing laundry, immediately ran out, poured some water, and handed it to Margaret, saying, "It's not hot."
Margaret quickly drank some water and intentionally spilled it on the floor, saying angrily, "Clean this up. Also, all the clothes in my room need to be washed by hand. Got it? If I catch you slacking off, you're done for!"
Margaret, still furious, swayed her hips as she entered her bedroom, grabbed her bag, and left.
She was annoyed and needed to vent to her friends.
However, just a few steps out the door, she was blocked on the street.
A black Mercedes stopped right in front of her.
Two burly men in black suits got out of the car, grabbed Margaret by the neck, and shoved her into the car.
"Help! I'm being kidnapped!" Margaret screamed. However, it was in vain.
Ten minutes later, Margaret sat in a café, trembling in fear as she was surrounded by eight or nine bodyguards in black suits.
The entire café had been rented out.
Just then, a tall figure appeared, and the temperature in the café seemed to plummet.
Zoe, clad in a black fitted outfit with a high ponytail, wore a cold expression.
She crossed her legs and sat in front of Margaret, a cold smile on her lips as she asked, "How's the job going?"
Hearing this, Margaret broke into a cold sweat and stammered, "I haven't found an opportunity."
Zoe slapped her hard, saying coldly, "Margaret, I'm warning you, don't play tricks with us. Your chances are running out."
"Yes, I know," Margaret said, holding her face and keeping her head down. Her eyes darted around, and she trembled with fear.
"Ms. Miller asked me to tell you, if necessary, even the young girl can be used. Understand?" Zoe said coldly, her eyes full of menace.
Margaret felt as if she had been struck by lightning.
Although she really didn't like Sarah, she wasn't willing to go that far.
She hadn't expected that Jessica would ask her to do such a thing.
Margaret finally mustered the courage to ask, "Isn't that a bit too much? After all, Sarah is William's daughter. And isn't Ms. Miller William's stepmother? Why is she targeting William like this?"
But then Zoe shot her a cold glance, making her shiver and quickly lower her head.
"Don't ask questions you shouldn't. Just do your job. Don't worry. He won't die. You never liked William and his daughter anyway, right? This is a great opportunity, and you'll get plenty of benefits. Why not take it?" Zoe sneered and left the café.
Not long after, Margaret was dropped off at the entrance of an upscale residential area.
Exiting the car, she still looked dazed.
No way she could have afternoon tea with her friends now.
Back at the villa, Margaret slumped on the sofa, not knowing what to do.
Just then, William and Mary came downstairs.
Margaret asked, "Where are you going? Should I save dinner for you?"
Mary replied, "No need. There's a company gala tonight, and I'm taking William with me."
With that, Mary left with William closely following behind.
William had no choice but to be more accommodating since Mary was still angry.
After all, she was pregnant.
In the car, Mary was touching up her makeup and said, "Tonight's business gala will be attended by prominent entrepreneurs from Lindwood City's pharmaceutical industry. We need to buy two outfits later."
"Is this gala really that important?" William asked, somewhat puzzled. They already had Bennett's investment, so why attend the gala?
"Yes, this gala is crucial for BK Pharmaceuticals. Whether we can find new partners before the Cater family completely blocks us depends on tonight's success," Mary said, her eyebrows furrowing slightly, showing her concern.
She hadn't wanted to attend, but the situation was dire. The Cater family was targeting BK Pharmaceuticals on all fronts.
Even with Bennett's investment, without the Cater family's channels and new partners to penetrate the domestic market, all her efforts would be in vain.
Why not ask William for help?
Well, he was already restricted from accessing his family's assets. Even if his friends knew powerful people like Bennett, they were just his friends, not him.
Besides, Bennett was just wealthy; he didn't understand the domestic pharmaceutical market.
What was most important was that Mary didn't want to rely on William forever; she wanted to stand on her own.
After Susan's appearance today, she grew even more determined.
"What do you need me to do?" William asked.
Mary shook her head and said, "The gala is the highest-profile event in Lindwood City's pharmaceutical industry. The attendees are all prominent figures in the pharmaceutical business. It's more about making deals and sharing business secrets than just drinking and chatting. Any pharmaceutical company that can connect with one of the top ten domestic companies at this gala will have a promising future."
She added, "Plus, this gala has another important purpose."
Mary bit her red lip, seeming a bit hesitant.
"The company's new drug?" William asked.
Before Mary could speak, he had already guessed the answer.
DSⅡ was indeed the main focus of this gala.
It was a new anti-cancer drug.
Its successful development represented a revolutionary breakthrough in anti-cancer medication. Countless eyes were on it, on BK Pharmaceuticals, and on Mary. They all wanted a piece of the enormous economic profit.
"DSⅡ is no longer a secret. I need to find partners quickly to penetrate the domestic market. Lindwood City is far from enough. Many CEOs of famous domestic pharmaceutical companies will attend this gala," Mary said, her face showing determination, her eyes filled with resolve and fierceness.
"Don't worry," William said confidently, crossing his legs. "With me around, no one will dare mess with you. I'll help you sell the drug."
"You?" Mary doubted, looking at William skeptically. "Aren't you restricted by your family? Are you still relying on that friend of yours?"
William rubbed his nose in guilt and said, "Sort of. I'll contact him later. He should know quite a few pharmaceutical companies."
Mary frowned slightly and said, "William, I know your family is wealthy, the Jones Group in Imperial City. But it's not good to always rely on others. I still hope you can return to your home. I heard from Jessica that your father has always wanted you to go back. Do you think this might be your father's way of pushing you? I don't want you to give up your life there because of me."
William smiled and said, "It's okay, I know. In a few days, I'll take you and Sarah back."
Mary nodded and suddenly turned to ask, "By the way, William, what's your friend's name? When can I meet him?"
