Chapter 398 Finally Met

Mary stared at the text, totally rattled.

Was she the girl who dropped off the necklace last time?

William got all hyped up when he heard Ellie's name.

'This girl's last name is Jones too. Is she tight with William?' Mary thought.

She eyeballed the message for a while and shot back: [Who are you? What's your deal with William?]

The reply came quick: [If you wanna know, meet me at the coffee shop.]

Should she go or not? Mary was torn. Going meant she didn't trust William, but not going would leave her feeling all kinds of uneasy since William was acting more and more sketchy.

Nightshade's dagger, shining like ice, lunged at William.

But it didn't hit home like Nightshade wanted.

It stopped just a hair away from William's chest.

In mid-air, William's hand casually caught the blade.

No matter how hard Nightshade pushed, the dagger wouldn't budge another inch.

William had it pinched between just two fingers.

What kind of freaky strength was this?

Nightshade was stunned, his face a mask of shock.

He'd never seen anyone grab a dagger like that.

William was just too scary!

But William didn't seem to care, like he had it all under control.

Nightshade was floored; his whole body was trembling.

How could BK Pharmaceuticals have a guy this deadly?

Why wasn't this in the intel?

"You are truly overestimating yourself," William sneered, giving Nightshade a lazy glance and tossing the dagger at his feet.

"If you wanna try escaping again, go ahead. Maybe you'll get lucky," William mocked, squinting.

Nightshade shivered, losing any will to fight. He slumped to the ground, staring at William, speechless.

"Guess you're done struggling," William said with a shrug. "I hid in that air vent forever, and you just give up? That's so lame."

Nightshade's eyes were full of despair. He thought his plan was foolproof—disabling the cameras and sneaking in during the security check. But he got outplayed.

William looked at him coldly and said, "I was just guessing, but I nailed it. Those two guys this morning were just the warm-up; you're the main event."

"Spare me, and I'll give you all my loot," Nightshade begged.

Being a master thief for years, he'd stashed away tons of valuable stuff, each worth a fortune.

He figured everyone had a price. To save his own skin, he had to use his stash as a bargaining chip. Losing his treasures sucked, but as long as he lived, he could always steal more.

"I never wanted to kill you, but since you're so upfront, I'll take it. But you still gotta work with me," William said calmly.

"What? You didn't wanna kill me? For real?" Nightshade asked, super excited.

"You wanna live?" William asked, eyeing him with a glint in his eyes.

"Yes! I'll do whatever you say!" Nightshade shouted, dragging his limp body and kneeling before William.

He knew his life was in William's hands.

"You said you're a master thief?" William asked, seeing some potential in Nightshade.

"That's just what people say," Nightshade replied, looking at William with relief after his brush with death.

William didn't dwell on it. "Surviving is easy; it depends on your sincerity."

Upon hearing this, Nightshade felt a spark of hope and clung to William's leg, saying, "Just tell me what to do, and I'll do it."

"Work for me, how about that?" William asked, his eyes locked on Nightshade, a faint glimmer hiding his true intentions.

"Work for you?" Nightshade echoed, a bit puzzled. He hadn't seen that coming.

He was feeling all kinds of conflicted.

He was already deep in with the Phantom Assassin Agency. If he said yes to William, it'd be straight-up betrayal. Nightshade knew better than anyone how strict the Agency was. Agreeing to William's deal could mean a death sentence from the Phantom Assassin Agency, and that was no joke.

Just thinking about the Agency's leader gave Nightshade the chills.

Betraying the Phantom Assassin Agency? That was something Nightshade had never even thought about. But now, he was stuck between a rock and a hard place.

If he didn't agree to William, he'd be dead on the spot.

If he did agree, he'd have the Phantom Assassin Agency hunting him down.

He couldn't wrap his head around it. William didn't seem like he was part of any assassin crew, so why did he want to recruit him?

William looked at Nightshade and said, "Dude, you don't need to overthink this. Roll with me, and you live. Otherwise, you're toast. Your call."

Nightshade's eyes were full of doubt and struggle.

He looked up and found the guts to ask, "Why me?"

"The reason's simple," William said.

He paused for a sec before continuing, "You don't need to know more. I've got my reasons. I know what you're worried about. Stick with me, and you'll be fine. As for the Phantom Assassin Agency, they won't be around much longer. If they deal with me again, I'll wipe them out."

"Wipe them out?" Nightshade echoed, his eyes wide with panic and shock.

Then he dropped to his knees and declared, "I'm in. I'll do whatever you want."

He had no choice; if he didn't agree now, he'd be dead!

Nightshade got that loud and clear.

William was quiet for a bit, then looked at Nightshade and said, "Get up. For now, stay in Lindwood City. Don't do anything until I give you the word."

Nightshade staggered to his feet and looked at William, puzzled. "Boss, aren't you worried I'll bail?"

William just smiled, patted his shoulder, and said, "Don't sweat it. If you run, I'll find you."

Upon hearing this, Nightshade shivered, feeling a chill down his spine. William's look just now made him feel like he was being watched by a predator.

And then, as the lab door slowly opened, a figure stood there.

That was the real source of Nightshade's fear.

Just seeing that person standing there made Nightshade lose any will to resist.

"Relax. I'm not running! I'm with you for life!" Nightshade announced.

"Find a place to heal," William said, waving his hand like it was no big deal, then swaggered out of the lab.

In the now-empty lab, Nightshade leaned against the wall, exhausted, sweating bullets and breathing hard.

He'd almost died there.

At the lab entrance, Benjamin had been waiting and said, "Ellie contacted Mary."

William's eyes lit up, and he asked, "You sure?"

"Just got the word. Mary's already on her way to the 1998 Coffee Shop. The other party says she's Ellie," Benjamin said, his face unreadable.

William frowned, feeling like there was more to this than met the eye.

Was this Ellie really his sister?

Why was she secretly reaching out to Mary?

"I'll handle this myself. Get ready to take down the Phantom Assassin Agency," William said coldly, then left BK Pharmaceuticals and grabbed a cab to the 1998 Coffee Shop.

Meanwhile, Mary was chilling in a cozy spot at the coffee shop, dressed to the nines in a black knee-length dress, quietly sipping her coffee and waiting.

She glanced at her wristwatch, looking around uneasily, feeling a bit impatient.

The other party was half an hour late.

Just then, the sound of high heels clicked behind her.

Mary spun around and saw a stunningly beautiful and stylish young woman, about twenty, in a fiery red dress and high heels, her ponytail swaying as she walked gracefully toward her.

The striking young woman walked over, extended her hand, and with great elegance and a warm smile, greeted Mary. "Hey there."

Mary stood up, somewhat stunned.
