Chapter 179 I'm Late

Today, William planned to visit Lucy at the hospital.

He had promised to check on her brother, Sean Barnes.

On the way, William thought it would be  inappropriate to go empty-handed so he decided to buy some fruit.

By the time he arrived at the hospital, it was almost three in the afternoon. Lucy saw William but still felt a bit shy and said, "William, you really don't have to trouble yourself. I feel quite embarrassed that you came all this way."

William smiled and said, "It's no trouble at all. This is our little secret, don't tell Mary, okay? Come on, take me to see your brother."

Lucy was a head shorter than William. Although she was pretty, her face was noticeably pale, seemed like overwork.

Such a girl made one feel heartbroken.

Lucy led William to the sixth floor of the inpatient department, which was mostly filled with leukemia patients, both adults and children.

William looked around and noticed that many of the patients' families were wearing worried expressions, with quite a few people hiding in corners, quietly crying on the phone.

When they reached Sean's room, they couldn't find him.

Lucy became anxious and asked several nurses but still couldn't find him.

At that moment, her expression changed suddenly, and she hurriedly rushed to a distant corner.

William quickly followed.

Lucy squatted down in front of a bald little boy hiding behind a pillar and anxiously said, "Why did you run out again? Didn't I tell you to wait for me in the room if I wasn't here?"

Sean had clearly been crying, but he still managed a brave smile and said, "I don't want to be treated anymore. I'm already cured. I want to go home."

Lucy took a deep breath, her eyes welling up with tears, and hugged Sean tightly, shaking her head, "Trust me, we can get you better, okay?"

Sean touched Lucy's face and shook his head. "I really don't want to be treated anymore. We don't have any money left. I don't want to see you working so hard every day. You must be very tired. I want to go home. I don't want to be treated anymore."

Sean, Lucy's brother, his words were heart-wrenching.

He was so young yet so understanding.

"Sean, don't worry about the money. Just focus on getting better. I can manage it."

William walked over, smiling as he held up the fruit and gifts.

Sean glanced at William, then he looked at Lucy with confusion, as if asking who William was.

William grinned and said, "I'm your sister's good friend."

Sean, being very perceptive, pulled Lucy aside and whispered in her ear, "Is he your boyfriend? He looks a bit old."

Lucy blushed, glanced back at William, and said, "No, don't guess randomly. He's the William I told you, who has been very kind to me."

Upon hearing this, Sean looked a bit disappointed, "I thought he was your boyfriend. That way, if I'm not around anymore, someone could take care of you."

Lucy shook her head, her eyes reddening, and hugged Sean. "Silly  Sean, I'll never find a boyfriend. I'll always be with you."

Sean smiled but quickly ran over to William, bowed, and said, "Thank you. Lucy told me you've been very kind to her. When I get better, I'll definitely repay you."

William hadn't expected  Sean to be so considerate and laughed, "Alright, I'll be waiting. But before that, you need to listen to Lucy and the doctors and then you will get better."

Sean shook his head, glanced at the hospital room, feeling very aggrieved, and then he held Lucy's hand as he walked outside, saying, "Let's go home. I miss home."

At that moment, an impatient voice sounded from the side, "Just go home. You're taking up a bed. If you can't afford treatment, why are you even here?"

William's face changed slightly upon hearing this. He turned and looked at the person with a hostile expression. "What did you say?"

The man glanced at William, looked him up and down, and said impatiently, "What I say is none of your business. So, trying to impress a girl? If you can't afford treatment, just go home. You've already been kicked out of the room, and you're still squatting there. It's really an eyesore!"

William's face turned extremely ugly.

No wonder Sean was so insistent on going home. He had already been kicked out of the room.

Was it because they couldn't pay the hospital fees?

William recalled the last time at the hospital when Sarah was almost kicked out because they couldn't pay.

He felt very sorry for Lucy and Sean.

But what made William even angrier was the man's humiliation and blame.

His face turned cold, and he sneered. "Is the hospital your home? Does it matter to you where he is? You're an adult, aren't you ashamed to say such things?"

The man, Jacob, crossed his legs, sitting on a chair with a hostile expression, immediately sneering. "So not happy? If you can't afford treatment, isn't it a waste of the hospital's resources and the doctors' time? Making us rich people wait?"

'This guy is such a loser, daring to argue with me? My brother-in-law is the head of a department at this hospital.' thought Jacob.

William laughed angrily. "So, people without money can't get treatment? Who decided that? You? Are you the hospital director? Who do you think you are? Say one more word, and I'll punch you."

Jacob was instantly enraged, standing up abruptly and gritting his teeth. "Alright, you got guts. Try hitting me today, and see if I will get someone to deal with you."

Jacob was still cursing, he rolled up his sleeves, ready to fight.  "My brother-in-law is a department head at this hospital. Believe me, one phone call and this sick kid will be kicked out immediately."

William also refused to back down. This guy really deserved a beating!

"What's the fuss? This is a hospital, not your home."

A passing nurse glared at both of them.

William finally stopped. He turned to the nurse and asked, "I'd like to inquire about Sean's bed. What's the situation?"

The nurse glanced at Sean, feeling both pity and helplessness. "He's been overdue on payments for a long time. The hospital has already extended his stay by half a month, but the fees still haven't been paid. We have no choice. There are many patients, and we can't keep the bed for him indefinitely."

Jacob sneered from the side. "If you can't afford it, you shouldn't be seeking medical attention!"

William, burning with anger, kicked Jacob in the waist, sending him flying, and roared. "Poor people don't deserve treatment? Say that one more time!"

Jacob's rage flared up, and he stood up, glaring at William, shouting, "Damn! You dare kick me? Fine, you're dead today. And this sick kid will be kicked out of the hospital immediately."

William ignored him, turning to the nurse and asking, "Are there any available beds? I need one now, and I'll pay for it."

The nurse shook her head, "Sorry, there are no available beds. Please step aside, I need to check on the patients."

Jacob, who had just been hit, immediately sneered. "So, you're a poor guy, right? . Who do you think you are, pretending here? How much money do you have? This kid has leukemia, even a million dollars won't cure him. Just go home and wait to die."

Lucy pulled William aside. Her eyes were filled with tears of grievance. She shook her head and said, "Forget it, let's go. We'll find another hospital."

She was helpless. Without a bed, there was nothing they could do.

And she really had no money now. Even though she knew William was wealthy, she didn't want to use his money.

People have their pride.

William turned to Lucy and said, "Don't worry, I have a way. Wait for me."

With that, William walked to the side and made a call to George.

Jacob, who had been mocking them, glanced at the pitiful Sean and shook his head. "It's so sad, he's going to die so young."

Lucy hugged the pale-faced Sean, glaring at Jacob with tears in her eyes.

She had heard too many humiliations like this.

Most of her relatives had already cut ties with her.

Because no one wanted to lend money to her, it was a bottomless pit.

As Jacob saw it, he continued with a smirk. "Glaring at me won't cure your brother. He's just waiting to die."

He even walked over and handed Lucy a business card. "How about this, if you need help with your brother's funeral, come find me. I can help you. I think you're pretty good; come work as my secretary."

Jacob was shameless and disgusting.

At this moment, William returned. Jacob sneered. "Did you find someone to help? Feeling desperate because you know he can't be cured? Let me tell you, my brother-in-law is a doctor at this hospital. Even if you find someone, I won't let this sick kid get treated here."

William, not wanting to see or hear him, said to Lucy, "Wait for five minutes."

Lucy didn't know what William was planning, but she could wait for five minutes.

Just then, a group of doctors hurried over.

Leading them was an elderly man with white hair, walking briskly and looking very anxious.

He had just received a call from his family's butler while in the principal's office.

William had come to the hospital.

This was a top priority and couldn't be taken lightly.

Upon seeing this man, the previously arrogant Jacob stood up abruptly and rushed over, shouting, "Mr. Dylan Myers, I didn't expect you to come personally. Can you take a look at my wife's condition?"

Jacob had come specifically to seek Dylan's consultation for his wife. After all, Dylan was a top expert in the country.

Even though his brother-in-law was a department head, it wasn't easy to meet with Dylan.

So, Jacob had been waiting here.

Unfortunately, as soon as Jacob rushed over, he was pushed aside by the surrounding doctors.

And the Dylan he mentioned quickly walked up to William, smiling apologetically, "Mr. Jones, I'm sorry for being late."
