Chapter 286 Something's Up!

'From the sound of it, he must be drunk. And he is someone we know!' William reasoned in his mind.

William frowned and looked at Abigail, noticing she was stepping back in fear. He made a shushing gesture, patted her soft shoulder, and asked again, "Do you know him?"

Abigail bit her red lip, a hint of hesitation flashed in her eyes, then shook her head vigorously and said, "No, I don't!"

That was enough for him. William grinned, which reassured Abigail quite a bit. After the incident on the bus last time, she felt much safer with William around.

William then walked to the door, looked through the peephole, and saw a drunken man pounding on the door.

He thought for a moment, smiled, and motioned for Abigail to open the door.

Abigail clenched her fists, took a deep breath, and opened the door.

As expected, as soon as the door opened, a man reeking of alcohol barged in.

The man had tattoos on both arms, a rough face, and was wearing shorts and a floral tank top—clearly not someone decent.

William was curious how a beauty like Abigail could know such a person.

Abigail trembled all over, stepped back several paces, and asked in a soft voice, "Why are you here?"

"Why can't I come? Do you have a man hidden in here?" the tattooed man said, laughing shamelessly, scanning Abigail with intense desire in his beady eyes.

Abigail frowned, quickly grabbed a coat from the nearby rack, and put it on. She said with displeasure, "Quinlan, we have broken up. Please don't bother me anymore! It's so late, and you've had too much to drink. Just go home."

Abigail was very scared. Any woman would be terrified to be cornered by a drunkard in the middle of the night.

Quinlan, the tattooed man, chuckled and reached out to grab Abigail's hand, but she shook him off.

He staggered a few steps and laughed, saying, "Go home? Isn't this my home? I used to live here every day. Now we've broken up, I can't even come back and take a look?"

"Besides, haven't you missed me?" Quinlan added, laughing lewdly, his eyes roving over Abigail's chest. He swallowed hard, wishing he could dive right in.

But he didn't know that William was standing right behind him with a cold expression.

"What are you talking about! We have broken up! Please leave now!" Abigail said angrily. Although Quinlan was her ex-boyfriend, he couldn't just barge in like this in the middle of the night!

She had read many similar reports where ex-boyfriends, unhappy with the breakup, ended up killing the woman!

Quinlan didn't listen at all and sneered, "Abigail, don't be ungrateful. Remember how we got together? Every corner of this place holds our memories. Well, now that you're in a big company, and you don't recognize me anymore?"

"I'm not leaving tonight!" Quinlan added shamelessly.

"You're too much!" Abigail said angrily. "If you don't leave, I'll call the police!"

"Call the police?" Quinlan sneered. "Do you think I don't know you? Would you dare to call the police?"

He added. "If you want me to leave, fine. I happen to be short on cash lately. Give me $100,000, and I'll leave immediately and promise never to bother you again!"

Quinlan sat on the couch, laughing.

He wasn't worried about Abigail calling the police since he knew she feared trouble.

Furious, Abigail pointed to the door and shouted, "$100,000? How many times have you asked me for money? No money! Get out now!"

She was on the verge of exploding.

Quinlan exhaled alcohol breath, stretched, and said bluntly, "No money? Fine, then sleep with me. Last time we were so close, if it weren't for the neighbor next door ruining it, you might already be married to me."

Abigail was trembling with anger, clenching her fists and shouting, "Get out now!"

Quinlan didn't take Abigail seriously at all. Fueled by alcohol, he continued, "Oh, come on. It's only natural. I bet you're lonely too. Let me comfort you. Why not?"

Quinlan, Abigail's ex, never touched her; instead, he sought sex workers when unable to bear it.

Last time, he tried to force himself on her while drunk, but the neighbor next door ruined his plan!

That incident was the reason Abigail broke up with him.

Abigail was inherently proud and conservative. She had always said she would wait until marriage for her first time.

Quinlan's eyes were glued to Abigail's chest, and he swallowed hard. He had desired her for a long time, and he wasn't going to miss this chance tonight!

"Quinlan, I'm warning you! If you don't leave, I will call the police!" Abigail angrily said as she pulled her phone out of her bag on the couch.

William had had enough and said coldly from behind the door, "Call the police? People like you should just be flushed down the toilet and drowned!"

Quinlan was startled. He thought Abigail was alone in the house, but there was someone else—a man!

Seeing William step out from behind the door, Quinlan flew into a rage, pointing and cursing, "Who the hell are you? Who let you in here!"

He thought William had come in like the neighbor did.

William shot back, "You want my girlfriend to sleep with you? I'm going to beat the crap out of you tonight!"

William figured pretending to be Abigail's boyfriend was the best excuse, saving him from having to explain anything later.

Abigail's angry face turned bright red when she heard William say that.

She knew William was saying it to protect her, so she didn't mind.

William's words instantly reassured Abigail, who felt lost at the thought of facing the situation alone.

William rolled up his sleeves, his face cold, looking like a street thug ready to pummel Quinlan into the ground.

Seeing William's stance, Quinlan jumped onto the couch, grabbed a fruit knife from the coffee table, and said viciously, "Oh, you bitch, acting all high and mighty with me. Now you're sneaking men into your house!"

"Watch your mouth!" Abigail snapped.

Furious, she added, "And put the knife down, or I'll call the police right now!"

"Call the police? Go ahead, I want to see who the cops will arrest when they get here!" Quinlan said, laughing shamelessly. Pointing the fruit knife at William, he said, "Will they arrest you or Abigail?"

Frowning, William said coldly, "I'll count to three. Put the knife down and apologize, or I'll break your legs!"

"Break my legs? That's the funniest joke I've ever heard. Do you believe I can call seven or eight guys to break all your limbs and throw you off this building?" Quinlan sneered, raising the fruit knife high. He threatened, "Take my advice and get out, or I'll kill you!"

William shook his head and sighed. Quinlan was clearly too drunk to think.

He couldn't help but feel a bit angry. How did Abigail get involved with someone like this?

Could this be why she invited him upstairs tonight, to help her deal with her ex-boyfriend?

He turned to Abigail and asked, "You don't mind if I beat him up, right?"

Abigail shook her head firmly, saying, "Go ahead I don't mind at all."

Despite being a good, conservative girl, she realized the situation. Quinlan needed a lesson to stop his behavior.

So, she might as well let William teach him a good lesson!

Abigail knew William was about to act, and she trusted his strength. When he dealt with those three thugs before, he was ruthless!

Thinking of this, Abigail encouraged William, "Just don't dirty the house."

William smiled and said, "Got it."

Quinlan, reeking of alcohol, saw William approaching step by step and sneered, "You're really not afraid of death, huh? Fine, I'll grant your wish!"

With that, Quinlan jumped off the couch and lunged at William with the fruit knife aimed at his stomach!
