Chapter 379 Beat the Dog
"Mr. Gonzales, that's William over there—the dude who clocked your brother. He's at the party tonight. You wanna round up some guys and teach him a lesson?" Jeffery said, glaring at William with pure hatred. "Plus, he's messing up our deal. As long as he's around, our partnership's gonna be a pain."
Lazlo nodded quietly, shifting his gaze from Mary's elegant figure to William.
'Is this the guy? He beat Dashiell to a pulp. Should I hate him or thank him? If it weren't for him, I wouldn't have a shot at the family head position,' Lazlo mused.
No one could read his thoughts, but a cold smile crept onto his face.
Jeffery's date kept sneaking glances at Lazlo, clearly smitten.
Jeffery gave her a silent cue.
She stepped forward, clinging to Lazlo's arm, and purred, "Mr. Gonzales, for the sake of our deal, you gotta put that punk in his place. He's so full of himself, he even said..."
"What?" Lazlo asked, his face darkening.
"He said if anyone from the Gonzales family set foot in Lindwood City, he'd break their legs," she said, clearly scheming.
It was total slander.
Lazlo took another sip of his wine and said slowly, "Threatening the Gonzales family, huh? Interesting."
His heart turned icy. To him, William was already a dead man.
Jeffery watched Lazlo nervously. His plan was simple: get the Gonzales family to crush William.
He didn't have to lift a finger, just sit back and enjoy the show.
Plus, he noticed Lazlo seemed interested in Mary. The look in his eyes had given it away.
"Mr. Gonzales, should we head over now?" Jeffery asked quietly.
Lazlo swirled his wine and said calmly, "Let's wait. They mentioned a special guest tonight. Let's see who it is first."
Just then, a familiar figure caught his eye. A playful look flashed across his face.
Meanwhile, Harper was striding toward William, her expression icy.
"Didn't expect to see her here. Interesting," Lazlo said, setting down his wine glass and heading straight for William.
Harper stood beside William, looked up, and saw Lazlo. She sneered, "Didn't expect to see a familiar face. William, you're in trouble."
William, sipping his wine, asked, "Who? What trouble?"
"Lazlo Gonzales. You beat up his brother Dashiell," Harper said, arms crossed, looking indifferent.
William saw the group approaching and then looked at Harper, grinning. "Why do I feel like you're the one in trouble?"
Lazlo walked over, smiling, unhurried, and composed, his eyes locked on William.
Most of the guests were business elites and noticed the commotion. Many recognized Lazlo instantly, realizing they had overlooked this gold mine.
That was Lazlo, and he was from the Gonzales family in Imperial City.
He was the rising star lately.
Rumor had it Dashiell went abroad for treatment, providing Lazlo an opportunity to contend for the head of the Gonzales family.
People started moving towards William and Lazlo.
Lazlo stared at William, making him feel a bit awkward. 'What's up with this guy? Is he gay?' William thought.
Lazlo extended his hand, smiling. "Hey, nice to meet you. I'm Lazlo."
William frowned and blurted, "Is Dashiell your brother?"
Lazlo nodded. "Yeah."
"Then why are you so happy?" William shot back.
Lazlo was stunned, and so were Jeffery and the others.
No one knew the backstory, but it was clear there was tension between Lazlo and William.
The atmosphere got awkward. William showed no respect for Lazlo, leaving him speechless.
Lazlo chuckled awkwardly, his eyes carrying a faint smile, trying to play it cool. "Mr. Jones, you really know how to joke. I heard about what happened with my brother last time. It was his fault first, and I'm here to apologize on his behalf."
William frowned slightly. He didn't expect Lazlo to be so composed and generous.
But he wasn't buying Lazlo's act.
Lazlo kept that faint smile, "Mr. Jones, how about we grab a few drinks?"
William stared at him, eyes cold. Lazlo's gaze was off. Despite his outward generosity, there was a deep-seated coldness in his eyes.
William hated being pushed around, especially by someone like Lazlo, who acted all high and mighty.
No matter how he looked at Lazlo, he felt this guy was like a disgusting worm.
And that constant smile? Super fake.
"Sorry, we don't know each other. Why should I agree to your request? Besides, I find you very unfriendly. You seem kind on the surface, but you're very dark inside," William said, calling him out. "Or am I wrong?"
"Oh, I'm sorry. I don't know what made you so unhappy. I wanted to make friends, but it seems you're rejecting me," Lazlo said calmly, not showing any emotion, like he expected it.
Harper, on the side, said discontentedly, "Lazlo, why do I feel like you're speaking in a weird and sarcastic tone today? What exactly do you want?"
Lazlo looked at Harper and said with a faint smile, "Ms. Price, this is a private matter between William and me. Mind your business."
He had once pursued Harper.
Harper frowned slightly.
Lazlo continued, "I wonder what your father Montgomery would think if he knew you were in Lindwood City?"
Harper was just an estranged member of the Price family, completely out of the loop, so Lazlo naturally didn't care her.
Displeased, Harper said irritably, "Lazlo, it's none of your concern!"
William watched them argue, getting a rough understanding of Harper. She actually knew people from the Gonzales family.
Lazlo didn't dwell on it, turning to William. "Today, I just wanted to meet you, William, and also get to know Mary. I think there might be some cooperation between Mary and me," he said, nodding and raising his glass to Mary.
Mary just smiled faintly.
William held his wine glass, standing silently on the side, a faint smile gradually appearing on his face. His expression gave nothing away about his thoughts.
But Mary, on the side, knew that William was brewing some bad idea, or rather, Lazlo was in trouble.
Suddenly, William put down his wine glass and started clapping.
Everyone looked at him in confusion, unsure of what he was up to.
"I remember telling Dashiell last time that if anyone from the Gonzales family appeared in front of me, I would teach them a lesson. Unfortunately, you're the first to verify this," William declared, clapping as he slowly walked up to Lazlo. Staring coldly into Lazlo's eyes, he said in an icy tone, "Sorry, Mr. Gonzales, your words just now really pissed me off. I have a bad habit. That is I won't tolerate any mistakes or flaws."
The Gonzales family, after all, had become too arrogant and dismissive of others.
Under William's piercing gaze, Lazlo suddenly felt like prey caught in the sights of a ravenous wolf.
Feeling a chill from head to toe, Lazlo trembled slightly. However, he managed to maintain his pride, offering a faint smile as he asked, "What do you want to do?"
"What do I want to do? It's simple. Let me give you an example. When a dog bares its fangs at you, what do you do? Of course, you'll beat the dog up, right?" William said coldly, rubbing his chin, a sharp glint flashing in his eyes.
Now, Lazlo had completely lost his previous calm and elegant demeanor. He genuinely felt as if he was being stared at by a hungry wolf.
Instinctively, he wanted to retreat, but his legs felt like they were filled with lead, unable to move.
'Damn it. Something's going to happen!' he thought, panicked.
