Chapter 248 Bear the Consequences
William scratched his nose and said, "I do have some skills, you know. From now on, I'm your knight."
Mary shyly rolled her eyes at him.
Keith, enraged, ground his teeth as he saw them walking together, and began to yell, "Ms. Smith, you need to give me an explanation for what happened today, or I'll report it to the board!"
Mary walked over with a cold expression and said, "Mr. Carter, if you're unhappy, then I apologize on behalf of William."
Then, she turned to everyone and said, "Everyone, please welcome our new colleague, William. He will be the assistant to the board from now on."
The enthusiastic applause completely excluded Keith.
Most people had their reservations.
William relied on a woman to advance, a shameless act that earned him an assistant role on the board.
But William didn't care; he was just here for a few days.
"Fine! Just you wait!" Keith warned.
Knowing it was a lost cause today, he angrily left with his assistant.
William grinned and waved as he said, "Mr. Carter, you're always welcome to visit the board office."
As soon as he finished speaking, Mary grabbed him by the ear and dragged him to the board office.
Through the door, everyone could hear various playful sounds from the board office.
"Honey, don't work too hard in the future. It's not good for the baby," William said, squatting on the ground and listening to Mary's belly.
Mary pushed him away and playfully scolded, "What are you listening for? It's only been a short while."
William chuckled and ran behind Mary to massage her shoulders.
Meanwhile, in the branch office of the Sanchez Group, the general manager's office, Joshua slammed his hand on the desk, knocking over a folder and breaking several decorative items.
He pointed at the two subordinates standing in front of him and angrily shouted, "Useless! You can't even catch one person. Why do I keep you around?"
"Useless!" Joshua fumed, kicking the two men to the ground.
The urgent ringing of the phone interrupted Joshua's outburst. He checked the caller ID, frowned, undid his tie, and breathed deeply. "Hello, Mr. Carter..."
Before Joshua could finish, Keith's furious voice came through the phone, "Joshua, what are you doing? You promised me you'd get Mary. What's going on now?! Explain yourself!"
Keith sounded extremely angry.
Joshua furrowed his brow and suppressed his anger, saying, "Mr. Carter, don't worry. It's just a minor setback. I'll handle everything."
"A minor setback? What minor setback?" Keith asked on the other end.
"I originally invited Mary to a private dinner. According to the plan, I could have won her over. But who knew she would bring someone along? I almost got drunk to death!" Joshua explained.
He still felt a bit shaken. He hadn't expected William to hold his liquor so well!
"Someone outdrank you, Joshua? Who was it?" Keith asked, clearly not believing it.
"It was her good-for-nothing husband, William!" Joshua said, grinding his teeth in anger.
"Not him again. I don't want to hear your excuses. Remember your promise to me! Otherwise, our previous agreement is off!" Keith threatened.
With that, he hung up the phone.
"Mr. Carter, Mr. Carter..."
Holding the phone, Joshua was so furious that he smashed it to pieces. He cursed, "Damn it! Hanging up on me! You think you're so great! You're just a useless member of the Carter family. Do you really think I'm just your errand boy, Keith?"
Joshua was livid. He tore off his tie and stood by the floor-to-ceiling window, looking at the city streets outside.
The glass wall reflected his cold, sinister face, his eyes full of malice.
"Get in touch with the people back home. I must get Mary! And have them bring people over to deal with William. I don't care how much it costs!" Joshua commanded, his face dark and ruthless. "I don't want to see him in Lindwood City again!"
"Yes, sir!" a subordinate replied.
The day passed quickly, and William left work early to visit Sarah at the hospital.
"William," a sweet, tender voice suddenly called out.
William turned his head to see a pair of mesmerizing long legs walking towards him.
It was Betty, clad in a sky-blue tracksuit, her ponytail high at the nape. Her neck was delicate, and her full chest was conspicuous.
She was clean and sharp, valiant and heroic, with a stunning figure!
William's eyes lit up. It was rare to see such an outstandingly elegant woman, and he couldn't help but take a few more glances.
But it was just admiration.
What was Betty up to, dressed like this?
As Betty got closer, William shook off his reverie and returned to his senses, asking blankly, "Do you need something from me?"
Betty was incredibly beautiful, with a delicate and exquisite face. Even without makeup, her skin was flawless, exuding a natural charm.
"Did you forget? I said I'd come to pick you up," Betty said.
She was slightly displeased but didn't show it.
William had better not be trying to back out.
William sighed and turned his head, saying, "I don't have time. I need to go to the hospital to see my daughter."
Betty was stunned. What was wrong with William? She had come to pick him up personally, and he didn't appreciate it?
Didn't he know how many men dreamed of going on a date with her?
William was so ungrateful!
This was the first time she had invited a guy!
So what if he was married?
Betty was a girl who dared to love and hate. She wanted to ask William out and express her feelings.
Even if she was rejected and scorned as a homewrecker, she didn't care.
"No, you have to come with me!" Betty insisted.
Betty didn't care and directly dragged William into the car.
At a restaurant, Betty had reserved a table in advance. The two sat facing each other, and for a moment, neither spoke first. William hated awkwardness and was the first to speak. "What do you want from me?"
"Actually, nothing much. I just wanted to have a meal with you," Betty said with a playful smile.
William wasn't stupid. He chuckled and crossed his arms, saying, "Well, you succeeded. Can I leave now?"
He thought, 'This girl, small but bold. Alan, you didn't raise your daughter well.'
If Alan were here, he'd probably be scared stiff.
Betty, hearing this, got a bit anxious and quickly grabbed William, who was about to leave, explaining, "Don't rush. I have something to ask you."
Sitting back down, William waited for her to speak.
Betty bit the straw, exuding a subtle allure. Sipping her iced drink, she rested her chin on her hand and gazed at William, saying, "I like you."
William understood.
William thought for a moment and said, "Betty, I know I might have some charm, but I'm already married and have a lovely daughter. Do you understand? You're still young and need to control those budding feelings."
"I know, but I just like you," Betty said with a playful smile.
It was clear that Betty wasn't listening.
Such girls were the hardest to deal with.
William thought for a moment and finally refused, "But I don't like you. I only love my wife and daughter. If there's nothing else, I'll be leaving."
Betty's initially excited face slowly turned gloomy, and she regretfully said, "Do you really not like me? I can be with you every day. As long as you want, I can come running to you."
Suddenly, a cold voice came from behind William. "Betty, what are you doing here?"
Immediately, three figures surrounded them. The man in the lead was someone William hadn't seen before, but he was dressed very stylishly, clearly from a well-off family.
As soon as he entered, he pointed at William with an arrogant expression and said, "Betty, why are you having dinner with this guy? No wonder you didn't have time for me. You lied to me!"
Simeon Collins was furious. He had asked Betty out for dinner today, but she had declined.
He hadn't expected that Betty would be on a date with another man.
He couldn't allow his goddess Betty to have any contact with other men!
Betty put down her iced drink and coldly glanced at him, saying, "Simeon, I've told you many times, don't meddle in my affairs. Besides, I didn't lie to you. I really didn't have time. As you can see, I'm having dinner with my boyfriend."
Hearing the word "boyfriend", Simeon was furious, and the consequences would be severe!
He glared at William and threatened, "Kid, if you don't want to end up in the hospital, get lost now! Otherwise, face the consequences!"
William chuckled to himself. He didn't expect to encounter trouble just by having a meal.
Moreover, he hated being threatened the most.
