Chapter 78 Margaret Collapsed

Mary felt anxious. Larry's sudden search for her, coupled with the promise of a vice president position, all pointed to something strange.

"Do you know?" Mary asked with suspicion.

What could William possibly know? He didn't own BK Pharmaceuticals, and he certainly wasn't acquainted with Larry.

William grinned and said, "Maybe he feels that his actions earlier were wrong and he wants to apologize to you."

Mary rolled her eyes at him, nervously saying, "Stop joking around, this is serious. What should I do when he arrives?"

The position of vice president wasn't something just anyone could fill. Mary was nervous.

What exactly did Larry mean? He hadn't made it clear over the phone.

"Don't worry, I'm here, aren't I? If he dares to do anything to you, I'll make his face look like a pig's head," William said, exaggerating.

Mary chuckled, her eyes curving beautifully.

In that moment, William seemed to see the image of Mary from their college days.

Pure, elegant, sweet.

Moments later, Larry rushed into the coffee shop, sweating profusely and panting.

"Mary, you were hard to find." Larry came in with a smile on his face and sat down without waiting for an invitation.

When his gaze landed on William, it carried a hint of disdain and mockery.

Thinking back to what had happened at the company, Larry felt a strong dislike for William.

If it weren't for him, would his being cuckolded by his mistress have been exposed?

"Mary, we're about to discuss important company matters. Do you think this irrelevant person could excuse himself?"

Larry said provocatively, with an arrogant look in his eyes.

Mary was taken aback and glanced at William. Before she could speak, William stood up and said, "Honey, I'll wait for you over there. Just call me if you need anything."

Mary nodded, watching William leave.

After William had gone, Mary, with a stern face, asked coldly, "Mr. Hall, can we speak plainly now? If there's nothing else, I'm leaving."

Larry quickly said, "Mary, then I'll get straight to the point. Do you know Professor Charles?"

Mary was surprised and nodded. "Yes, the Hospital Director of Loren Hospital, a renowned medical authority both domestically and internationally."

Of course, Mary knew her; Charles was quite respectful toward her husband.

Did this matter involve him?

Larry smiled and said, "That's right, Professor Charles himself called me just now, saying that the Loren wants to collaborate with our company."

"That's good news. I congratulate Mr. Hall and Loren in advance on a successful partnership," Mary said with a smile.

"If only it were that simple. You don't know, Charles has a condition." Larry said, sipping his coffee and looking at the puzzled Mary. "They requested that you be the one to negotiate this collaboration."

"Me?" Mary was astonished, her face full of confusion.

What was going on?

Larry continued. "I'm not sure of the specifics, but Charles did indeed specify by name that only you, Mary, can handle this collaboration. So, Mary, please help us out. Considering the years you've been with the company, come back to work. I'm offering you the vice president position, and for this collaboration, we hope you can make a significant effort. How about it?"

Larry was anxious.

The collaboration with Loren had to be confirmed today.

Seeing Mary hesitate, Larry intensified his persuasion, making various promises.

"Ms. Smith, what do you think?" Larry looked at Mary with hopeful eyes.

Mary pondered for a moment, her gaze drifting to William standing outside the coffee shop.

Could it be him? After all, Charles knew William.

"Mr. Hall, this is all too sudden, I need to discuss it with my husband." Mary apologized.

Larry was taken aback, his look becoming suspicious as he glanced at Mary, and then coldly at William outside the coffee shop.

What was there to discuss with that good-for-nothing?

But naturally, Larry didn't dare say that now. Forcing a smile, he said, "Alright, but Ms. Smith, I hope you can give me an answer soon. I'll hold the vice president position for you."

Larry put forth his greatest sincerity.

Mary hummed in acknowledgment, picked up her bag, and walked out of the coffee shop. Stepping up to William, she asked with suspicion, "William, did you have something to do with the Loren's collaboration with BK?"

Direct and to the point.

William turned his head, grinning. "How could I have such influence? I just mentioned it in passing to Charles. Why, they want to collaborate with your company?"

William' half-truths didn't raise much suspicion in Mary.

Even if William knew Charles, such collaborations weren't determined by personal relationships.

It must have been the result of Loren's own assessment, with perhaps a little consideration for William.

"Yes, Loren wants to collaborate with BK, but the condition is that I must be the one to negotiate," Mary said, pursing her lips, then looking up at William, she asked. "What do you think, should I agree?"

Mary actually wanted to agree. After all, she didn't want to lose her job, and Larry had promised quite a few benefits just now. For her, this was a great opportunity. After all, she was a woman who needed to support her family and her child.

"Mary, I know you don't want to lose this job. Whatever decision you make, I'll support you."

William, with his arm around Mary's delicate neck, smiled as if they were a couple in their youthful days.

Mary nodded vigorously, smiling. "Let's invite Charles for dinner another day."

"Sure, I'll arrange it," William replied.

The matter was settled, and Mary agreed to negotiate the collaboration with Loren.

Larry also gave Mary the position of vice president at the company.

It seemed that everything was moving in a positive direction.
At that moment, at the old Smith family home, Margaret was sitting with Tyler, discussing arranging a blind date for Mary.

On the coffee table, there were many photos she had collected from the matchmaker. All of them were elites.

"Tyler, look at these, they all look decent, come from good families, and have solid financial backgrounds. This one even owns a company.

"What do you think? Isn't our daughter stubborn, clinging to that William? What's so good about that good-for-nothing? No money, no status. If it weren't for him, would our Mary have to live so hard?

"If you ask me, we should just find a way to make Mary divorce that waste, William!"

Margaret chattered on, growing more irritated as she spoke, cursing William vehemently.

Tyler, reading the newspaper with his reading glasses on and the news playing on the TV, said somewhat helplessly, "You should worry less. Mary is grown up and has her own thoughts."

"What thoughts? To spend a lifetime with that good-for-nothing, and you, as her father, are happy about that?" Margaret exploded, cursing. "Tyler, what's wrong with you? You don't care about Mary's affairs, how do you even act as a father? I must have been blind to marry you. I'm the one who deals with all the big and small matters at home, and you just fiddle with those broken trinkets you collect."

Margaret was furious, glaring fiercely at Tyler.

Tyler sighed, flipping through the newspaper, and said, "Alright, alright, I'll listen to you, do as you please."

Margaret then let it go, thought for a moment, and said, "I'll call Matthew. It's been many days since he last visited our home."

Tyler, speechless, watched Margaret and shook his head with a sigh.

Margaret dialed several times, but there was no response. "Why isn't Matthew answering the phone?"

"Maybe he's busy, after all, he runs a company. Can't you just call tomorrow?" Tyler said.

Just at that moment, the news on TV announced, "According to the latest news from our station, the city's largest educational institution, Fly Education Group, has recently been exposed for Chairman Herman Simmons' involvement in illegal benefit transfer, unfair competition, and incitement to commit crimes. An investigation has been launched, and Chairman Herman Simmons has been arrested according to the law.

"Additionally, Star Dream Media Limited, founded by Matthew, son of Fly Education Group's Chairman Herman Simmons, has been investigated for a sexual scandal, and Matthew has been arrested according to the law."

Margaret's phone fell to the ground, and she was completely dumbfounded!

How could this be?

Matthew was arrested!

Matthew's father was also arrested.

Suddenly, the dream of her daughter marrying into wealth shattered.

Tyler, seeing the news, could only helplessly shake his head and sigh.

Margaret couldn't take it. Almost fainting, she asked, "Tyler, what's going on, how could Matthew break the law? This could Matthew I have to call Mary and ask."

Margaret was anxious.

If she found out who was behind Matthew's downfall, she would fight them to the end.

At that moment, the doorbell rang, and Mary and William entered, carrying gifts.

"Margaret, this is what William bought for you," Mary said with a smile as soon as she entered.

She and William had agreed to come back and have a proper talk with her parents.

William greeted them cheerfully, standing at the door with gifts in hand.

He was also prepared; if need be, he'd lay it all out with them.

However, Margaret, upon seeing William with the gifts, flew into a rage, rushed over, threw everything William was holding out the door, and yelled. "Who let you into our house? Get out!"
