Chapter 147 Looked Down Upon Because of No Money?

"William!"

Everyone in the private room was stunned the moment they saw William.

"Is he that William?"

Many people were now looking at William with strange expressions, scrutinizing him. They hadn't expected to see him today.

William felt awkward as soon as he entered the room, especially noticing the odd looks everyone was giving him—full of undisguised mockery and ridicule.

"Lisa, your boyfriend's friend is really shabby. His clothes are even more pathetic than your future husband's," Helen mocked.

She was furious the moment she saw William's dumbfounded look. Last time at the BMW motorcycles dealership, he made her lose her job.

She had to get revenge! She was going to humiliate him, no matter what it took!

Elbert felt awkward. He had met Lisa's sister once or twice and hadn't talked to her much, so he didn't know what kind of person she was.

But now, Elbert knew she wasn't a good person—she was so disrespectful. Still, he couldn't say anything because she was Lisa's sister.

So, he glanced at William, signaling him to bear with it.

William nodded without saying anything. He hadn't expected to run into Helen here. With a slight frown, he sat next to Elbert as indicated.

Lisa touched up her makeup in the mirror indifferently and said bluntly, "He's just a loser. Why do you care about him?"

Then, Lisa raised her glass and said, "Come on, everyone is here. Let's have a drink."

Everyone raised their glasses and drank.

After a round of drinks, Lisa said she had something to do and left with her bag, saying she'd be back soon.

Elbert frowned. Watching Lisa leave, he followed her out.

William sat in the private room, enduring everyone's hostile glances.

"William, I heard you wanted to buy a hundred Harley-Davidsons from Helen's store?" a young man said, mockingly.

William raised an eyebrow and glanced at Helen, who was sitting with her arms crossed and a calm expression, but said nothing.

Immediately, someone else chimed in sarcastically, "Quite arrogant, aren't you? We're talking to you."

They were displeased. This loser dared to ignore them. \Did he look down on them? How dare he?

William turned his head and looked at the girl sitting next to him. "Excuse me, I need to use the restroom," he said, not wanting to argue with these people.

He left the private room.

Behind him, a chorus of disdainful snorts followed.

"How embarrassing!"

"I don't know what his wife was thinking, marrying such a loser."

"If he leaves, he shouldn't come back. Sharing a room with him ruins my appetite."

The cold mockery and harsh words from everyone made William feel a simmering anger.

Outside, William smoked a cigarette in the restroom and decided not to return to the private room.

He wandered around but couldn't find Elbert.

So, he sent him a text: [Elbert, I left a gift for you at the front desk. Remember to pick it up when you leave. I have to go, I can't be away from the hospital for long.]

After sending the message, William tossed the cigarette butt away and prepared to leave. But as he passed the elevator, he saw a familiar figure—Lisa?

Even worse, Lisa was clinging onto a middle-aged, overweight man in a black suit. They entered the elevator.

William's heart skipped a beat. He looked closely and confirmed it was Lisa!

William got furious immediately.

On one hand, she was discussing engagement with Elbert, and on the other, she was going upstairs with another man.

William knew that there was a hotel upstairs. After all, it was his family's restaurant, and the whole building was under his name.

Just then, Elbert came out, waving at William and smiling. "William, why are you leaving? Stay a bit longer. It's not often that we get to meet."

William was anxious, he wanted to stop Elbert. If he saw this, it would be a brutal blow.

But he couldn't stop him, and Elbert saw the scene in the elevator.

Elbert stood there as if struck by lightning. His face was flushed. With fists clenched, he witnessed the elevator doors close.

Inside the elevator, Lisa also noticed Elbert and William. Her first reaction was not guilt but disgust and annoyance. She glared at them. Then, with Elbert watching, Lisa even let the middle-aged man kiss her face and neck a few times.

Lisa even wrapped her arms around the middle-aged man.

Time seemed to stand still.

The elevator doors closed completely.

William sighed helplessly, walked over to the now-stunned Elbert, patted his shoulder, and said, "I always wanted to tell you, Lisa..."

But William was interrupted by Elbert, who forced a smile, his eyes moist, and said, "Come on, what are you standing there for? Let's go back and eat. Lisa will be back soon, she just went to buy something."

William was stunned. Elbert was in complete denial.

Elbert turned to leave.

William's expression was grim as he watched Elbert walk away. He shouted, "Elbert! How long are you going to lie to yourself? That was Lisa! The woman you've loved for four years! A woman who only sees you as source of income!"

"Enough!" Elbert turned around, his eyes bloodshot. He glared at William and shouted, "That's not true! It's not!"

But just then, the elevator doors opened again, and Lisa walked out.

With her arms crossed and a frown on her face, she ignored William and stared at Elbert, asking, "Did you see everything?"

Elbert quickly wiped his tears, forced himself to smile, and said, "No, where did you go? Didn't you say you were going to buy something? Come on, my parents will be here soon."

Lisa slapped Elbert, her face full of contempt, and said, "Enough, Elbert. Let's break up."

She was cold, showing no regard for their past relationship.

Elbert was stunned. Still trying to stay calm, he said, "Lisa, stop joking. We're getting engaged today. My parents are already at the door."

Elbert had loved Lisa for four years, he couldn't believe what he had just seen.

But Lisa didn't love him.

She pushed Elbert's hand away and sneered. "Engaged? With what? Do you have money? Do you have a house? Do you expect me to marry you and live in a rented apartment?"

She took out a cigarette from her bag, lit it and took a deep drag. With her long fingers, she poked Elbert's chest, saying disdainfully, "Elbert, stop dreaming. I was just playing with you. For me, you're nothing but a source of money, understand? Your parents are farmers. Do you think they deserve to be my in-laws?"

William couldn't listen anymore. His heart burned with anger.

Lisa was too heartless. Elbert had supported her for four years, and she treated their relationship like it was nothing.

Elbert was stunned, with his head down and fists clenched, he forced a smile and said, "Lisa, stop it. I know you're mad at me for what happened earlier. I'm sorry. Please don't break up with me. My parents traveled six hours from home to be here today. They really like you. If you marry into our family, they'll treat you like their own daughter."

Elbert hurriedly took out a bank card and a small box from his pocket, knelt on one knee and opened the box to reveal a very small diamond ring. He said, "Lisa, I bought this for you. The diamond is small, but I'll work hard to get you a bigger one. This bank card has my family's savings, over thirty thousand dollars, enough for a down payment on a house here."

The commotion attracted a crowd. Even Lisa's friends from the private room came out. They just stood there coldly, not saying a word, because they knew Elbert was just a fool being played by Lisa.

Lisa sneered, slapped the ring out of Elbert's hand, and said, "Are you stupid? Do you think I care about this tiny diamond ring? And thirty thousand dollars? Do you expect me to help you pay off a mortgage? Dream on!"

Just then, the middle-aged man from earlier came out of the elevator.

He walked over, wrapped his arm around Lisa, and looked down at Elbert. "Kid, you think you can date and marry without money? Dream on! Lisa is my sweetheart. I give her more money in a month than you have on that card, idiot!"

He then kissed Lisa on the lips in front of everyone.

Lisa was initially uncomfortable but then accepted it.

They both looked coldly at the kneeling Elbert, called him an idiot again, and turned to leave.

The crowd murmured.

"Wait! Who said you could leave? Are you really looking down on him just because he has no money?"

William couldn't take it anymore. Looking at Elbert on the ground, he was furious.

William glared at Lisa and the middle-aged man, took a few steps forward, and said angrily.

"Lisa, if I told you Elbert is actually very wealthy, with assets worth millions or even billions, would you still humiliate him like this?"
