Chapter 169 How Could It Be You
"Ms. Smith, another chairman from a pharmaceutical company is here to discuss a cooperation with us."
At this moment, Brenda suddenly knocked on the door of the boardroom and walked in with documents in hand. She was full of joy.
The company had been in talks with top pharmaceutical companies in the country for the past few days.
Mary was indeed impressive.
She had such powerful connections.
Mary didn't quite catch what Susan was saying and replied, "Sorry, Mary, I have something to attend to here. If you need to reach me, I'm always available."
Mary hung up the phone with a cold expression.
On the other end, Susan was fuming. How dare Mary hang up on her.
No, she needed to teach her a lesson.
Otherwise, Mary would never understand the gap between them.
Mary thought for a moment, quickly tidied herself up, and then she followed Brenda to the meeting room.
In the afternoon, William was at the hospital with nothing to do when he suddenly received a call from George.
"Mr. Jones, there's a dinner tonight at Alinea with several chairmen from family-owned pharmaceutical companies. They heard you're in Lindwood City and begged me to arrange a meeting with you. What do you think?" George said.
"Alright," William replied. He couldn't refuse this.
After all, the matter with BK Pharmaceuticals still needed their help.
Since they were already here, it wouldn't be polite to refuse. So, he decided to meet them.
"I'll notify them immediately and have them wait for you at Alinea. Do you need me to pick you up?" George asked.
"No need. I'll go by myself," William replied.
After hanging up, William stayed with Sarah until seven in the evening, then he took a cab to Alinea.
After entering the lobby, William sat on the sofa and he planed to go up later.
Feeling bored, William flipped through a magazine on the table and unexpectedly overheard two waiters at the door discussing.
"Look at that guy, dressed so poorly. How did he end up at our hotel?"
"I don't know, but it's pretty disgusting. There are so many freeloaders nowadays."
"Yeah, I've heard some people specifically go to fancy hotels and beg for money from rich people."
William smirked but didn't pay attention.
'Do I really look that poorly dressed?'
Feeling a bit helpless, William stood up and walked towards the elevator, drawing curious and disdainful glances from the waiters, which felt as irritating as being scratched by cat claws.
Just a few steps in, he was stopped by a shout from behind.
"William, what are you doing here?"
Isaac was following his father. As soon as he entered, he saw a familiar back. Wasn't that William? How could he be at a luxurious place like Alinea?
William turned his head and saw the arrogant Isaac looking at him coldly. He smiled and said, "Oh, it's Mr. Hayes. What a coincidence!"
Isaac sneered and sarcastically said, "Well, William, you've got some nerve coming to Alinea. Do you even know what this place is?"
Even seeing William made Isaac feel unbalanced. Why should William get to marry Mary?
"Alinea, so what?" William replied innocently.
"So what? How dare a loser like you come here?" Isaac stepped forward and mocked.
William frowned slightly, glanced at Isaac, and replied, "Yeah."
This immediately triggered Isaac's temper.
"Waiter, what's going on at Alinea? How can you let someone like him in?" Isaac shouted, pointing at William.
He wouldn't feel satisfied unless he gave William a hard time today.
Soon, a lobby manager came over and apologized, "Mr. Hayes, I'm sorry for our oversight. Please come inside, and I'll handle it immediately."
Then, with a stern face, he coldly said to William, "Please leave immediately!"
William looked at the smug Isaac, his face turned red, and asked coldly, "I'm here to dine. Does Alinea have a policy of turning away guests?"
"You're a loser, coming here to dine? I really don't know what Mary sees in you," Isaac said with a displeased look, then explained a few things to his father, Kyle Hayes.
Kyle, with a square face, medium build, and a beer belly, glanced at William with disdain.
'So, this is the guy who stole Isaac's girlfriend?
'Pretty ordinary, easy to deal with,' Kyle thought.
"William, this is my final warning. Stay away from Mary, or I'll make sure you're bedridden for life."
Isaac walked up to William and threatened him viciously, with his eyes filled with coldness.
William was fuming inside, glaring at Isaac's departing figure. He would deal with him sooner or later.
The lobby manager sized up William with a look of disdain and asked coldly, "Are you here to dine?"
William didn't explain. He simply took out his phone and called Eugene. After Eugene spoke a few words to the lobby manager, the manager's attitude changed dramatically, and he respectfully escorted William to the elevator.
"Mr. Jones, I apologize for my oversight. I hope you won't hold it against me," the lobby manager said.
William ignored him and took the elevator to the top floor.
Once the elevator doors closed, the lobby manager let out a heavy sigh of relief. He had almost caused a big problem. That was a close call-this poor-looking guy actually knew Eugene.
On the top floor, William suddenly felt the urge to use the restroom and rushed to the men's room, only to bump into a beautiful woman coming out of the ladies' room.
The scent was intoxicating, and the woman, with an amazing figure, was almost knocked over by William.
Her figure was explosive, with curves in all the right places.
The woman steadied herself and angrily said, "Who the hell doesn't watch where they're going!"
After cursing, she looked up and glared at William, pushed him aside, and walked away in her high heels.
William was stunned. She was a stunning beauty, with delicate features, big eyes, light makeup, probably around twenty-five years old. Her skin was flawless, and she exuded femininity.
"Where did this poor guy come from, using the restroom at Alinea?" the woman grumbled discontentedly.
She turned back and saw William, dressed plainly, staring at her neckline.
He looked like a perverted creep.
William glanced back a few times, remembered the scent, and then went into the men's restroom.
Meanwhile, the woman ran into a private room, where several middle-aged men were enthusiastically discussing something.
Upon seeing the woman enter, a bespectacled middle-aged man smiled and said, "Claire, you're late."
As soon as she entered, almost everyone's eyes in the room were on her, especially her long legs.
The woman sat down, put down her bag, and apologized, "Sorry, there was traffic. Mr. Jones hasn't arrived yet, right?"
"Not yet. I just spoke with Mr. Clark. Mr. Jones should be here soon."
Jack Ford checked his watch and then said to everyone, "When Mr. Jones arrives, make sure to be enthusiastic. We can't afford to be negligent."
"Got it, Jack. You've said it several times already."
The others nodded in agreement. They all understood the significance of tonight's dinner.
Tonight's guest was the young master of the Jones Group from Imperial City.
Most of the people present relied on the Jones Group for their livelihood.
Of course, Claire Graham was an exception.
She had pulled some strings to get into this dinner, aiming for the development of her own company.
Claire hoped to gain Mr. Jones's favor and investment at this dinner.
The Jones Group of Imperial City was a high branch that many people dreamed of reaching.
At this moment, William, guided by a waiter, arrived at the private room door and pushed it open.
Jack quickly stood up and ran to the door to greet William, and the others also stood up to showrespect.
"Mr. Jones, please."
Jack recognized William immediately and bowed. He had the honor of meeting William at a banquet eight years ago.
The memory was still fresh.
Everyone stood, bowing respectfully, making William feel quite embarrassed.
"Mr. King, Mr. Ford, long time no see," William said.
As they heard William mention their names, the few men felt incredibly proud and honored, quickly smiling and saying, "Mr. Jones, you remember us. It's truly our honor."
At this moment, Claire stood up in excitement, she adjusted her pencil skirt, and smiled, finally seeing the person clearly.
"It's you?" Claire exclaimed in disbelief.
