Chapter 108: Alan Also Arrives!
Roy was incredibly excited at this moment!
Rex had come in person and even brought an Andy Warhol painting. This was truly a precious gift!
Such a gift was not something just anyone could casually present.
Everyone followed Roy out of the outer courtyard and to the entrance.
Wade lagged behind. Seeing that William hadn't moved, he sneered, "What do you mean? Rex is here, and you won't even go out to greet him?"
William, surprisingly, was still sitting calmly.
With Wade's reminder, William thought it over and agreed. He got up, along with Mary, and followed the crowd outside. However, they stayed a few feet behind, not eager to push forward. William didn't particularly enjoy such social occasions.
Everyone stood respectfully outside the door, where a black Maybach had already parked.
Soon, the car door opened. Rex stepped out, with a broad smile on his face.
Roy immediately went up to greet him, beaming and extending his hand in flattery. "Mr. Ingram, I never expected someone of your stature to grace my humble abode and congratulate me."
Roy's words were well-crafted.
Rex extended his hand to shake Roy's and congratulated him, "How could I miss your birthday banquet? I came uninvited, so I hope you don't mind."
Indeed, Rex came uninvited.
Rex's uninvited visit was due to a message from George: [William would be attending Roy's birthday party and needed their support.]
Rex found it strange. ‘Does Mr. Jones need support?’ He thought.
After some pleasantries, Roy asked with a smile, "Mr. Ingram, why didn't you notify me in advance? I could have sent someone to pick you up."
Rex waved his hand and said, "Since Mr. Jones is here, I thought I'd come over to congratulate you and share in the joy."
"Mr. Jones?" Roy asked, puzzled and confused.
At that moment, Rex spotted William a few feet behind the crowd.
Immediately, Rex lit up his face with joy!
After all, William was a billionaire who had invested two billion in their company!
Instantly, Rex left Roy and the others behind and hurried over to William, wearing a respectful smile.
"William, you're indeed here. Did I arrive in time?" Rex, usually respected by others, was now showing great respect to William.
"Why are you here?" William asked, puzzled.
‘Today is the birthday banquet of Roy, the head of the Turner family. Why would Rex come? It is indeed George's doing.’ William pondered. ‘George is forcing me to reveal my identity.’
"I heard you were here, so I come to give Mr. Turner a birthday gift. How about it? Is my painting thoughtful enough?" Rex said with a fawning smile.
William, a top-tier magnate born with a silver spoon, had a fortune that George had once hinted at that just one of his cards had a hundred billion on it!
Rex, always astute, knew that he had to cling tightly to the heir of such a hidden wealthy family. This would bring immense wealth and opportunities to his business.
At this moment, Roy hurriedly led the crowd over, shouting, "Mr. Ingram, what are you doing?"
As he spoke, Roy glanced coldly at William and said, "Mr. Ingram, why don't we go inside to talk? It's quite hot outside, and the courtyard is cooler. Besides, why are you talking to him? He's just a nobody."
Roy was clearly still angry with William.
Such a useless person showing up at his birthday party was practically shortening his life.
Now that Rex was here, if William caused any embarrassment, it would be hard to handle.
It would be Roy and the Turner family who would be humiliated.
But who would have thought that Rex, worth over three billion, would willingly stand at the door, respectfully beside William?
Then, Rex glanced at Roy and said, "Being with William is not embarrassing."
Roy was dumbfounded and couldn't help but ask, "William? Mr. Ingram, did you come because of William?"
Rex was displeased with Roy's disrespectful tone towards William and even regretted giving him a gift. Just as he was about to speak, he saw William wink at him and immediately understood.
Rex smiled slightly and said, "William and I share a deep connection in collecting. We are kindred spirits."
‘Kindred spirits? Deep connection?’ Roy was astonished!
Everyone else was also dumbfounded!
‘How could William, a man with nothing, know someone like Rex, a businessman worth billions? Could it be that William is into collecting too? Impossible. With William looking so poor, how could he afford to buy collectibles?’ they pondered.
Wade and Daniel were even more astonished. William actually had such connections. They had really underestimated him. "Who would have thought that Rex came because of William."
Everyone was astonished.
This was like a fairy tale!
"Rex is a famous collector, worth over three billion. Why is such a big shot so respectful to William? Something's off," the meticulous Emily thought, standing among the crowd. She felt something was wrong right away.
But after scrutinizing William for a few moments, she couldn't equate him with any heir to a wealthy family.
Because that was impossible.
Only Tyler frowned slightly, guessing that maybe the incident at the gallery last time had led to Rex and William becoming acquainted.
At least this time, William hadn't embarrassed the family.
Margaret was now full of pride, especially in front of Dorothy, boasting, "Look, William isn't bad either. Better than your Terry, right? That's Rex, worth three billion. He's being so polite to William."
Dorothy turned white with anger. She had always tried to show off in front of Margaret.
Today, Margaret's brag made her extremely uncomfortable.
And this discomfort turned into anger and hatred towards William.
‘Damn William, just stay a loser forever!’ Dorothy thought.
‘Who would have ever thought that William is hiding his talents? He even knows Rex.’ Many people sighed, thinking William had climbed up the social ladder.
But no one took it seriously.
Especially after Tyler explained that William and Rex had met at an exhibition and weren't very close, everyone became even more dismissive.
So it was all just for show.
Such relationships would soon be forgotten and become history.
If it was not yours, you could never truly claim it.
Besides, William was still a loser.
However, the next scene shocked everyone even more!
Roy invited Rex into the courtyard, but Rex made a gesture of invitation, inviting William to go in first.
William felt awkward. Mary beside him was very curious, staring at him and pinching his waist hard. She bit her lip, muttering, "William, you'd better explain this to me later!"
William smiled wryly and thought, ‘What a mess! George, you've really put me in a tough spot!’
Unable to refuse, William had no choice but to lead Mary into the courtyard ahead of everyone else.
William could feel dozens of cold stares behind him, piercing him like arrows.
Returning to the courtyard, everyone sat down. Rex, led by Roy, took the innermost seat.
Seeing everyone crowding into the middle of the courtyard, Wade stayed on the outermost edge, sneering mockingly. "William, who would have thought that a piece of trash like you could know someone like Rex? Consider yourself lucky."
Although Wade was smiling, his words were dripping with sarcasm, which anyone could hear.
William frowned slightly, his displeasure growing.
Wade was really bringing disgrace to the Turner family.
But William didn't respond. He didn't need to bother with such a clown.
Meanwhile, Rex, who had just sat down, saw William sitting in the outermost corner of the courtyard, being mocked by Wade. He felt very displeased.
A shrewd person could see at a glance that this was the seat for the least important person.
"Sorry everyone, but I'd rather sit over there," Rex said, greeting everyone and then eagerly running to the outermost part of the courtyard.
"May I sit here?" he asked humbly.
Everyone was stunned. ‘Who would have thought that Rex is so respectful to William? What is going on? Is it really just an ordinary relationship?’
"Mr. Ingram, feel free," William said calmly.
Rex beamed with joy and quickly sat next to William, personally pouring him a drink.
At the sight of this, Wade felt his face burning, as if countless slaps were landing on it!
At that moment, suddenly, there was another sound at the door!
"Alan from the TH Charity Organization has arrived! He presented a gift, a sculpture by a renowned artist!"
