Chapter 118: Six Bottles of Lafite for Eight Hundred and Forty Thousand Dollars!
Everyone was stunned and turned their eyes to William, who suddenly stood up.
‘Why would this ordinary guy say something like that? Could it be a hero saving the beauty? But this is six thousand dollars!’ Many people expressed disdain and contempt.
Dressed very ordinarily, William spoke with such a big tone.
"Where did this poor kid come from, pretending to be rich here?"
"Probably because she's pretty and he has crooked ideas."
"Someone like him? Dressed in cheap clothes is clearly a poor guy."
People were mocking and ridiculing, not caring about William's feelings at all.
At this moment, Lori looked up and her tearful eyes saw William. She immediately became embarrassed and angry. In her eyes, William was just a braggart and a poor guy. How could she not be furious being seen in such an awkward situation by someone like him?
Moreover, Lori thought William was here to mock her!
"William, what are you doing here? Go away. I don't need your help!" Lori shouted in shame and anger.
At this moment, Amy ran over from the crowd. "Lori, what's wrong?"
"Amy!" Seeing Amy, Lori burst into tears and hugged her, crying.
"Lori, it's okay. Tell me what happened." Amy comforted, gently patting Lori's back.
Amy noticed the broken wine bottles on the ground, a large puddle of red wine, and the accusations from the onlookers. She immediately understood.
Lori was in trouble!
"Amy, I broke six bottles of Lafite. They want me to pay six thousand dollars!" Lori cried sadly.
"Six thousand dollars?" Amy was shocked.
Amy's family wasn't well-off either. Amy couldn't come up with six thousand dollars at once.
Amy even regretted helping Lori now. It was hard not to help her.
The waitress nearby was getting impatient and said coldly, "Lady, please pay up quickly. We have work to do. Otherwise, I'll call the police."
With so many people watching in the store, if this wasn't resolved quickly, the waitress would also get in trouble.
"Don't call the police, please don't. I'll pay." Lori shook her head while crying, then looked at Amy with hopeful eyes, pleading, "Amy, you're my good friend, right? You won't leave me, will you?"
Amy was in a difficult position, looking embarrassed. "Lori, I don't have that much money either. You know my family's situation. I have a younger brother who needs to go to school."
Hearing this, Lori panicked even more and felt utterly contemptuous towards Amy.
As expected, all fake friends were not reliable at critical moments.
"Lori, why don't you ask Stanley for help? He has money and might help you pay. He wouldn't leave you in the lurch, right?" Amy suggested.
"Can I do that?" Lori felt very ashamed. Asking Stanley for help now would make him look down on her.
Lori always maintained a cold and aloof image in front of others.
But now, she had no other choice.
"Can you hurry up? Are you going to pay or not? If not, I'm really calling the police," The waitress urged.
Lori couldn't stop her tears from flowing. Finally, she gritted her teeth and quickly took out her phone to call Stanley.
Stanley was sulking in a private room when he suddenly received Lori's call. Hearing her crying and understanding the situation, Stanley said very boldly, "Alright, wait for me. I'll be right there. It's just a few bottles of wine, is it that serious?"
After hanging up, Stanley hurried over with a group of classmates. From a distance, he shouted, "What's going on? Bullying my girlfriend, huh? It's just a few bottles of lousy Lafite. How much could it be worth?"
Stanley was very upset earlier, so now he couldn't wait to regain some dignity in front of everyone.
Seeing Stanley arrive, Lori immediately threw herself into his arms, crying sadly.
"Stanley, they were mean to me! They want me to pay six thousand dollars!" Lori cried, her voice coquettish.
Stanley hugged Lori and comforted her a bit, "Alright, it's just six thousand dollars. I'll pay for you."
Hearing this, Lori was overjoyed, quickly wiping her tears and repeatedly saying, "Thank you, Stanley!"
Lori immediately kissed Stanley on the cheek.
This stirred Stanley up. He whispered a few words in Lori's ear, making her blush.
Then, Stanley coldly said to the waitress, "Six thousand dollars, right? Put it on my tab. I'll settle it later."
The waitress, seeing Stanley looking like a rich man, immediately nodded in agreement.
But suddenly, a man in a suit, the lobby manager, walked over and coldly asked, "What's going on here? Why are so many people gathered?"
Earlier, the lobby manager, Ben, had heard the commotion and had a rough idea of what was happening.
The waitress, seeing the lobby manager arrive, quickly bowed and said, "Ben, this lady accidentally broke six bottles of Lafite, and I'm handling it."
Ben nodded upon hearing this and didn't say much, saying something with Stanley.
However, when Ben's eyes fell on the broken wine bottles on the ground, he panicked!
"How much did you ask them to pay? Six thousand dollars?" Ben urgently asked.
The waitress nodded. "Yes, Ben. Lafite costs one thousand dollars per bottle. Six bottles total six thousand dollars."
Ben immediately slapped her hard, angrily shouting, "Are you blind? Is this a one-thousand-dollar bottle? Look closely at the vintage of this Lafite!"
The slap was so sudden that the waitress was stunned, her eyes filled with tears, stammering for a long time.
Ben glared at her a few more times, then turned around with a smile and said to Stanley, "I'm sorry, sir. The waitress is new and doesn't know her stuff. This is a new batch of Lafite we just received, a vintage in 1787. There are only six bottles in the entire city, each worth one hundred and forty thousand dollars, so these six bottles total eight hundred and forty thousand dollars!"
The whole place fell silent!
"What?! Eight hundred and forty thousand dollars?! Who are you trying to fool?!" Stanley collapsed on the spot!
‘Is this wine? It is money!’ Stanley thought.
Lori was also shocked and immediately jumped out, pointing at Ben and cursing, "I didn't expect Victory Grand Hotel to be so shameless, extorting customers!"
Many onlookers were also frightened.
Ben darkened his face and adjusted his suit, calmly picking up a piece of broken glass from the ground. He said, "Please take a close look. The vintage is clearly written on it. If you don't believe me, you can check online to see how much a 1787 Lafite is worth. These are the only six bottles left in the city, and they are genuine. Victory Grand Hotel has been in business for many years and has never cheated customers. If you think I'm lying, you're welcome to call the market supervision authorities to investigate."
Ben looked at them with disdain. These people had never seen the world.
‘They don’t even know about 1787 Lafite. How do they talk about drinking?’ Ben pondered.
Stanley was shocked and personally took the piece of broken glass. It indeed said 1787.
But he couldn't just accept it.
After all, that was eight hundred and forty thousand dollars!
Stanley's company had a monthly turnover of only four hundred thousand dollars!
How could he pay?
Stanley panicked and stammered to Lori, "Lori, you've caused a big trouble! I can't pay that."
Hearing this, Lori immediately clung to Stanley, crying and shouting, "Stanley, they're lying. There's no way it's eight hundred and forty thousand dollars. They must be cheating us. We should only pay six thousand dollars!"
Lori was very scared.
If this was true, she couldn't pay it even if she sold herself!
"Lying?!" Ben turned cold and angrily said, "Lady, please go and ask around. When has Victory Grand Hotel ever cheated anyone? If you don't pay, I'll call the police and let them handle it!"
Hearing about calling the police, Stanley immediately stepped aside in fear, no longer wanting to be involved.
Lori cried and begged, but it was to no avail.
Who would be foolish enough to pay eight hundred and forty thousand dollars for her?
However, William, who had been standing silently on the side, suddenly spoke up, "How about we let it go for my sake?"
