Chapter 175 Slapping Margaret!
The slap echoed crisply through the corridor.
William's large hand swung down, lstriking Margaret's face with all the built-up frustration and resentment from three years, sending her sprawling to the floor!
Margaret screamed. She clutched her face, staring at William in disbelief, and shouted angrily, "How dare you hit me? William, are you crazy? You worthless piece of trash, how dare you hit me? I am your mother-in-law!"
Margaret was about to explode with rage.
A worthless man dared to hit her.
Did he have a death wish?
Did he not want to enter her house anymore?
She was livid, her teeth grinding in anger. She got up from the ground, pointed at William, and cursed, angrily shoving him, "William, I will let Mary to divorce you. This isn't over between us."
In response, William swung another slap.
Just as forceful and balanced as the former one.
This slap completely stunned Margaret. She stared at William with wide eyes, unable to believe what had just happened.
For three years, William had always been meek and submissive.
But today, he had gone mad.
William must have gone mad.
Lucy was utterly shocked, her heart pounding as she covered her mouth, unable to believe what she was witnessing.
William was incredibly manly.
But that was his mother-in-law, would this be a problem?
The onlookers, however, erupted in cheers, spreading like waves of wheat.
"Good hit! That was satisfying!"
"Such a vicious old woman deserves a hard slap."
"Oh my god! That was infuriating just now. I was really worried for that young man."
Margaret stomped her feet angrily. She covered her face and shouted, "William, you're crazy. You'll never set foot in my house again. I don't have a son-in-law like you. Just you wait."
After cursing, Margaret covered her face and ran out of the hospital in shame and anger.
She didn't dare stay any longer; the crowd's scorn was overwhelming.
Outside the hospital, Margaret covered her face, feeling the pain.
She stomped her feet in anger, glaring back at the hospital entrance, and said, "William, I will never forgive you. I will definitely break you and Mary apart."
Meanwhile, William pulled Lucy into the ward.
Lucy was still sobbing, looking very aggrieved, but she knew her place and said, "William, will it be okay that you hit Margaret like that? Will it cause trouble for you because of me?"
With that Lucy quickly got up, nodding and apologizing, "William, I didn't mean to. I'll go apologize to Margaret and ask her to forgive you."
With that, Lucy was about to run out of the ward, but William stopped her.
He really liked Lucy's personality, and Lucy was also very pretty, though she usually spoke little.
William had found out that Lucy's family was poor, and she had a younger brother who was also in the hospital, costing a lot of money.
"No need; there's nothing to do with you. Don't worry about it."
William said, then took out his phone and transferred $400 to Lucy, saying, "This is your salary for this month."
Lucy took out her phone and saw the transfer amount, immediately exclaiming, "Four hundred? William, did you make a mistake?"
The nursing salary was clearly three hundred, but William had transferred four hundred.
"It's fine, the extra hundred is my apology to you on behalf of Margaret." William smiled, like a big brother.
Lucy shook her head immediately and tried to transfer it back, saying, "No, three hundred is three hundred, and you've already stood up for me. I can't take the extra."
Lucy knew William's family wasn't wealthy.
And judging by today's situation, William didn't have a high status at home.
She couldn't take this money.
But William stopped her and smiled. "Alright, don't be so polite with me. If you don't accept it, I'll have to fire you."
Fire her?
Lucy's heart trembled, she couldn't lose this job. She bit her red lips, then bowed and thanked William repeatedly, "Thank you, William."
William didn't say anything more.
In the evening, William went to find Lucy and saw her in the small garden, talking on the phone and crying.
"What's wrong, Lucy?" William approached, asking with concern.
Lucy hung up the phone, wiped her tears, and smiled. "Nothing."
William knew Lucy was strong and never talked about her problems. He sat down and glanced at her phone. The screensaver was a cute little boy with a bright smile, but it was a hospital photo. The boy was with a breathing tube, forcing a smile for the camera.
William was moved and asked, "Is this your brother?"
Lucy pursed her lips, looked at the photo, and smiled gently. "Yes, isn't he adorable?"
William nodded. "Your brother is very strong."
Lucy nodded, continuously touching the screensave., "He's only eight this year. He is a clever boy, always top of his class."
When Lucy talked about her brother, her eyes were full of love and pride.
William nodded and said, "I heard from others that you work very hard, holding three jobs every day. You work as a nurse during the day, and you do part-time jobs at night. You even get scholarships every year. Honestly, I really admire you. Are you doing all this to pay for your brother's medical bills?"
Lucy didn't expect William to care so much about her life and smiled. "Yes, my brother is still young. Our parents have been gone for a long time.. He's my only family now. If I don't take care of him, there's no one will."
William grinned, suddenly reminded of his past, and said, "You're even stronger than your brother. Actually, I lost my mom when I was twelve. I wasn't that strong back then and locked myself in my room for over a month."
Lucy was surprised and then softly comforted, "William, your mom must have been very beautiful."
William held his head in his hands, looking at the blue sky, and said, "She was the gentlest woman in the world. After that day, I felt like the sky had fallen. But later, I met another woman, a woman who changed me," as Wliam said this, a happy smile spread across his face.
"It must be Mary."
Lucy bit her lip, her eyes glistening with tears, and smiled.
She envied William and Mary's love.
William touched his nose and suddenly asked, "By the way, what's your brother's illness?"
Lucy turned her head, looking very sad again, and said, "Leukemia."
William took a deep breath, feeling helpless, and said, "Leukemia is hard to treat. It requires a matching bone marrow and a lot of medical expenses. Can you handle it alone?"
Lucy gave a bitter smile and didn't respond, just look at the optimistic little boy on her screensaver.
William glanced at her, then stood up and said, "Do you trust me?"
Lucy didn't understand his word at once. She blinked her big doubtful eyes, and said, "William, what are you saying?"
"I can help you. I'll find a way to cover the medical expenses," William said.
He genuinely liked Lucy, but only treat her as a little sister.
Because in her, William saw the shadow of a little girl from his past.
A little girl who was willing to give everything for William.
A little girl forever locked in William's memory.
His biological sister, Ellie Jones.
She gave everything, even her life, to save him.
Lucy was stunned. William smiled and said, "Don't rush to thank me. If you want to thank me, just acknowledge me as your brother, or you can marry me, but Mary probably won't agree, so you can only be my sister."
Lucy still didn't speak. William continued, "I know what you're thinking about. I can only tell you that I'm not what you think. I'm not a worthless person. To be honest, I'm quite wealthy. This is our secret, you can't tell Mary."
Lucy was silent for a long time, then suddenly smiled and said, "Thank you, William."
William knew Lucy didn't believe him, so he took her to the hospital's ATM, inserted his card, and checked the balance.
When Lucy saw the balance on the bank card, she was completely stunned.
So much money, how many zeros were there?
Over ninety billion.
William was actually this rich.
Then why was he so weak in front of Margaret?
Meanwhile, Margaret angrily returned home. Just as she reached the door and took out her keys, two burly men in black suits and sunglasses appeared behind her.
Without a word, they grabbed Margaret and threw her into a black seven-seater van.
"Ah! Who are you? Let me go! Help! I'm being kidnapped!"
Margaret kicked and screamed, but it was useless.
The car door closed, and the vehicle quickly drove away.
