Chapter 124 Margaret Gets Slapped
This slap had truly frightened the arrogant and domineering Margaret.
Terrified, Margaret hid behind William, covering her face, and gritting her teeth, saying, "Who are you? Why did you hit me? William is here."
What else could she do? Right now, the only person she could rely on was William.
"I've heard all about it. William's mother-in-law is rude, unreasonable, and domineering. Seeing this today, I realize it's indeed true," Susan said with a cold smile.
In her eyes, Margaret was just an ordinary old woman, not even worth her own effort. People like her would naturally be dealt with by others.
Hearing this, Margaret was instantly furious. She was indeed unreasonable, and she even felt proud of it because she had taken advantage in many cases.
But now, as Susan pointed it out in her face, she felt quite embarrassed.
"Even so, you can't just hit people randomly." Margaret had long lost her arrogant demeanor, now looking timid and very scared.
She was a completely different person from the sharp-tongued woman who had previously targeted William.
It turned out that she was just a bully who feared the strong and bullied the weak.
Susan glanced coldly at Margaret, ignoring her, and then stared at William, saying, "William, this slap is payback for earlier. You'll never be able to repay What you owe me in this lifetime."
William had no idea what to do. About Susan, he felt quite guilty.
However, he would not allow Susan to do anything to harm Mary and Sarah.
"Susan, I'm warning you. Don't try to challenge my bottom line. You should know what kind of person I am," William said. His face turned darkened with a serious gaze.
Susan, however, just gave a cold smile. She stared at Margaret and said, "Remember, my name is Susan. I advise you to behave yourself in the future and not to make things difficult for William, or I won't let you off."
With that, Susan turned silently, got into a nearby black Mercedes, and left.
After she left, Margaret finally breathed a sigh of relief.
Before William could understand what was happening, Margaret slapped him directly, pointing at his nose and cursing, "What are you staring at? What were you doing just now? She was bullying me, and you didn't even dare to say a word? How could I have such a useless son-in-law like you? You're driving me crazy."
Margaret was very angry, and her attitude was very bad.
She had never been treated that way in her entire life.
After cursing at William, she turned back to glare in the direction Susan had left, arrogantly cursing, "You're rich. So what? What kind of crappy car is that? When I have that car in the future, I'll definitely beat you to death, you little vixen."
Margaret was just that kind of person—timid in front of others but arrogant once they were gone.
William's expression darkened as he took the slap from Margaret, but there was nothing he could do to her.
"Margaret, do you know who she is?" William asked coldly.
"So what? Who could she be? Just a little vixen. Let me tell you, this isn't over. You need to explain clearly what your relationship with that vixen is. Tonight, you and Mary are coming back home to explain everything to me and your dad." Rubbing her swollen face, Margaret was full of resentment with a sinister expression.
She believed that William was having an affair behind Mary's back.
Now, the little vixen had even come to their door.
William shook his head with a helpless, bitter smile. Margaret really thought too much.
If he told Margaret that Susan was the one who had sent her gifts, what would her reaction be?
Would she still be so unrestrained and foul-mouthed?
Probably not.
So, William didn't bother to explain. Some things were better left unsaid.
People like Margaret wouldn't learn a lesson unless they suffered a bit.
After parting with Margaret, William went straight to his office to check on work. After all, it would be appropriate for the boss to be absent all the time.
He stayed until late when he received a call from Mary, saying that Margaret and Tyler wanted them to come home.
No need to guess, it was definitely about the incident from earlier in the evening. Margaret was ready to hold him accountable.
William felt so helpless.
He took Melissa's car back to the old house and happened to meet Mary at the gate. The three greeted each other.
"Melissa, come visit our home sometime," Mary said, smiling and waving at Melissa.
Melissa politely responded and then drove off.
Once Melissa had left, Mary crossed her arms with a jealous look and coldly stared at William, asking, "Was it comfortable sitting in the same car with Melissa?"
"Yeah, it was pretty comfortable," William replied without thinking, not noticing Mary's expression.
Mary kicked William in the calf and grabbed his ear, sternly saying, "Alright, William, a few days without supervision and you're out of control, huh? Was it comfortable?"
Stunned for a moment, William realized Mary was jealous.
William grinned foolishly and said, "Not comfortable. Definitely not."
Mary rolled her eyes at him and let it go.
At the door, Mary didn't go in immediately. Instead, she looked at William with some concern and said, "William, I have a feeling my mom called us here for an ulterior motive. If she starts yelling at you or gets physical, you can fight back."
Mary was also helpless about Margaret's unreasonable behavior. In the past, no matter how Margaret scolded or hit William, Mary didn't care because she and William were about to get a divorce.
But now it was different. Mary felt that the long-lost love between her and William was slowly rekindling.
William was stunned and shook his head, saying, "It's okay. Your mom is like my mom. If she scolds me or hits me a few times, it won't hurt me."
Mary looked at William, her eyes shining differently in the night.
Suddenly, Mary stood on her tiptoes and gave William a quick kiss on the lips before pulling away.
"Don't overthink it. Consider it an early reward," Mary said with a blush on her face and then quickly stepped into the yard and knocked on the door.
In the living room, four people were sitting.
Margaret, full of anger, questioned William, "William, today, with your dad, Mary, and me all here, tell us honestly, who was that woman during the day? Is she the mistress you're keeping outside?"
Mistress?
Suddenly, the room fell into a dead silence.
Mary's reaction was the most genuine. She stared at William with disbelief.
William had an affair?
Tyler, only now understanding what Margaret was up to, stood up in anger, pointing at William and shouting, "William, are you having an affair outside?"
How could William do such a disgraceful thing?
If the neighbors found out, Tyler would become a laughingstock.
And what about Mary?
William knew it would come to this and explained, "Mom, you misunderstood. That's not the case."
Margaret still wouldn't let go. She pressed on, "Then tell us in front of everyone today, who is that woman, why does she know you, and what is it that you owe her for a lifetime?"
William looked helplessly at Mary and then asked Margaret, "Mom, do you really want to know?"
"Of course. You better explain, or divorce Mary and leave with nothing." Margaret said coldly, her eyes sinister.
William had money to compensate for that porcelain vase, so he definitely had hidden some money.
Margaret wouldn't let William go without taking all his money.
William thought for a moment and then calmly said, "She is the Mrs. White who sent you those gifts."
Margaret's words got stuck in her throat. Mrs. White?
Impossible.
"What nonsense are you talking about?" Margaret said, full of astonishment.
William didn't want to explain further and said, " Margaret, I'll return those things to Mrs. White tomorrow. There are some things I can't say much about, and you shouldn't ask. There's really nothing between us."
"What? Return them?" Margaret immediately became agitated. She stood up and angrily pointed at William's nose, shouting, "What right do you have to return them? They were given to me, so they are mine."
Margaret began to hysterically curse.
As a result, within ten minutes, William was kicked out of the Smiths' house.
Helplessly, he exchanged a few glances with Mary, and the two took a cab to the hospital.
They needed to stay there for the next few days to provide care.
"William, what are you going to do about Susan?" Mary asked, lying on the hospital bed with her back to William and her eyes closed.
William wrapped his arm around Mary's waist and said, "I'll handle it. You and Sarah are my everything. No matter what happens, I will always love you and Sarah."
Mary shifted slightly with a sweet smile.
The next morning, William hired a few movers and went to the Smiths' old house.
"What are you doing? Who let you in? Get out." Margaret shouted. As soon as these people entered, they started moving things, especially the items Susan had sent last time.
Margaret was definitely anxious.
Seeing William calmly smoking at the door, Margaret was furious. She rushed over and tried to slap him, shouting, "William, this is my house. Tell them to stop."
But her slap missed, caught mid-air by William.
"Margaret, I've always tolerated you because you're Mary's mother, but you are so outrageous," William said coldly, waving his hand.
Margaret was stunned. William had never spoken to her like this before.
Had William gone mad?
Margaret was about to lose her temper. In front of so many people, William dared to disrespect her.
This was her house, and she was William's mother-in-law. How could William speak to her like this? What about her dignity?
"William, are you out of your mind? How dare you talk to me like this? Do you have any respect for me?" Margaret glared at William, seething with anger.
However, William ignored her, picked up a phone call, and left.
It was Alan calling. He said that Aaron from Yangville was looking for him.
"Mr. Jones, this is Aaron. I have something urgent to tell you." Aaron sounded clearly nervous on the phone.
"Go ahead. What is it?" William asked calmly.
"Mr. Jones, you need to be careful of Wade. He brought some people to the city to find Mary," Aaron said anxiously.
Wade came to the city?
And he was looking for Mary?
What was Wade planning?
