Chapter 404 William, a Real Billionaire
Mary watched as Lucius jogged over, drenched in sweat.
It was like he was meeting someone super important.
Lucius extended his hand to William with a look of respect and reverence, saying, "Mr. Jones, I get to meet you finally. I came here specifically for this."
Mary gaped at William in disbelief.
What was going on?
Lucius, the public face of Crescent Investment Group, was speaking so politely to William.
And he called William Mr. Jones.
"William, what's going on?" Mary asked, flustered, her eyes wide open.
Lucius respectfully said to Mary, "Ms. Smith, hello, I'm here to see Mr. Jones. The one-billion-dollar investment in Elite Exim Enterprises was approved by Mr. Jones himself."
It really was William.
Mary could no longer stay calm. She blinked rapidly and asked William, "William, what's going on? Are you really Mr. Jones?"
Her husband was the head of Crescent Investment Group, the heir to a hundred-billion-dollar fortune.
How was this possible?
William smiled slightly. He hadn't planned to reveal this now, but since Lucius was here, it didn't matter anymore.
"Yes, I am Mr. Jones, the head of Crescent Investment Group. I..." William said calmly.
Before he could finish, Chloe and the others came out.
The whole family swarmed out, chatting and laughing.
Chloe shouted loudly, "Let's go to Emerald Tastes Eatery. Today, it's my treat."
"That's great! Emerald Tastes Eatery? A meal there costs thousands of dollars!" someone exclaimed.
"We're really lucky today. Let's go, let's book a private room," another said excitedly.
"Hey, Mary, hurry up. William, you come too, since you're already here," a relative said, looking at William with a hint of disdain.
Chloe and Inigo noticed Lucius, who didn't look like an ordinary person, dressed in a suit and tie.
But what puzzled them was that this person was being so polite to William.
What was going on?
How could a loser like William be respected?
Chloe walked over, clutching her purse, and asked with a puzzled look, "Hey, Mary, is this your friend?"
As she spoke, she glanced disdainfully at William.
Lucius didn't pay any attention to the group, respectfully asking, "Mr. Jones, what do you think..."
But as soon as he spoke, Inigo burst into mocking laughter. "What did you call him? Mr. Jones? Are you kidding me? Look at him, he has nothing to do with a CEO?"
With that, he laughed heartily. What was going on?
If William was Mr. Jones, then he must be Mr. Brooks.
Chloe also chuckled, crossing her arms and looking arrogant as she said, "Hey, you look well-dressed, but you're blind. He's not Mr. Jones. You weren't fooled by him, were you?"
Chloe's expression was one of pure disdain, showing her strong aversion for William.
The others also shook their heads, complaining, "Did he hire an actor? Mr. Jones, really? Is he still upset about what happened earlier?"
"How amusing. I bet he just grabbed someone and told him to call him Mr. Jones to show off in front of us," someone mocked.
"Let's go. We shouldn't take him to dinner; he's bad luck and always a buzzkill," another demanded.
William's face grew colder.
Lucius beside him was already fuming, glaring angrily at Chloe and the others. "How dare you! Who do you think you are to speak to Mr. Jones like that!"
Chloe's mouth opened slightly, and she sneered, "Are you an idiot? How much did William pay you to act? I'll pay double for you to expose him right now!"
As she said, she pulled out a few hundred dollars from her purse and rudely threw it at Lucius, coldly laughing. "Here's six hundred dollars. Is that enough?"
Then, she couldn't help but cover her mouth and laugh.
The surrounding relatives laughed loudly and mockingly.
In their eyes, William was really a joke.
Inigo laughed mockingly. "Chloe, let's go. Why waste time with William? It's just embarrassing."
Lucius was furious. He had never seen anyone dare to be so disrespectful to Mr. Jones and to himself.
"Stop!" Lucius shouted angrily, pointing at them and scolding, "Apologize to Mr. Jones immediately, or you'll regret it!"
He had been observing William's expression, and since William didn't stop him, it meant he approved.
Moreover, there was a fire of anger in William's eyes.
He had had enough of all this.
Chloe's family was too presumptuous and needed a good lesson.
Chloe immediately turned her head, asking in disbelief, "Apologize? You want us to apologize to this loser?"
Her eyes looked at Lucius as if he were an idiot.
"Do you know who I am?" Chloe asked again, looking very proud.
She had just secured a one-billion-dollar investment from Crescent Investment Group, which meant that she could transform into a billionaire and step into the upper echelons of Lindwood City.
So naturally, she looked down on William even more.
"Who are you?" Lucius asked coldly.
"My name is Chloe Kiplinge, and I'm the general manager of Elite Exim Enterprises. I have connections with some of the most influential figures in politics and business. How dare you to offend me?" Chloe boasted. Her sharp tongue made people want to punch her.
Lucius finally understood. So, she was the general manager of Elite Exim Enterprises.
"Alright, Elite Exim Enterprises, get ready to go bankrupt!" Lucius said through gritted teeth.
William did not stop him but watched silently.
He approved of Lucius's approach. Chloe needed to be taught a lesson.
"Bankrupt?" Chloe repeated, laughing a few times. She looked at the relatives, and then at Lucius, asking, "Who are you to talk big? Do you know that we just received a one-billion-dollar investment? One billion dollars, do you understand?"
Lucius smiled coldly, already sentencing Chloe in his heart.
Mary couldn't stand it anymore. She quickly pulled Chloe and said sternly, "Chloe, don't be rude. He is Mr. Kingsley!"
Chloe glared and cursed, "So what? Who do you think you are?"
But suddenly her words got stuck in her throat. She stared at Lucius in disbelief, her eyes darting between him and William.
Chloe instantly connected the dots and asked in disbelief, "Mary, what did you say? He's Mr. Kingsley?"
Everyone also understood.
The well-dressed middle-aged man in front of them was Lucius Kingsley, the general manager of Crescent Investment Group.
How could this be?
Mary nodded helplessly. "Yes, he is Lucius Kingsley."
Everyone gaped at Lucius, gasping.
He was Lucius.
Chloe fell silent, realizing how foolish she had been.
This was the investor in her company, and she had just cursed him to his face.
It was over.
However, everyone seemed to overlook a very serious issue.
Chloe immediately became very obedient, standing with her legs together, hands in front, bowing and apologizing repeatedly. "Mr. Kingsley, I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I spoke out of turn just now. Please don't hold it against me."
Inigo looked embarrassed, nodding and smiling apologetically.
Lucius coldly said, "Why are you apologizing to me? Apologize to Mr. Jones!"
Everyone suddenly realized.
Lucius had been calling William Mr. Jones.
So, William was the real boss of Crescent Investment Group. He was a billionaire with a hundred-billion-dollar fortune!
Everyone was dumbfounded and panicked.
Margaret, who looked like she had seen a ghost, stared at William in disbelief and asked, "Are you really the Mr. Jones he said?"
