Chapter 415 It is Too Terrifying
William kept his cool and grinned. "Hey babe, what's the deal? I noticed the online chatter about you guys has died down. Need me to step in?"
Knowing Mary didn't want his help, William played it off.
She was a tough cookie, always wanting to handle things herself.
Mary's eyebrows shot up, clearly taken aback. If it wasn't William, then who the heck was it?
"Oh, I get it, the company's PR team is on it," Mary said with a smile, though it looked kinda forced.
"Alright, if you need anything, just holler. I got your back," William said, then hung up.
Mary crossed her arms, suspicion written all over her face. She asked again, "Are you absolutely sure it wasn't our PR team handling this?"
The PR manager adjusted his glasses and said, "Nope, whoever's behind this is a big shot. Their resources and connections blow ours out of the water. Just this move alone must've cost tens of millions."
Mary nodded silently, her mind racing about who could be helping her.
"Ms. Smith, is it a friend of yours? Such slick moves likely come from a heavyweight in the entertainment biz," the PR manager added.
Mary forced a smile and said, "Maybe. Alright, keep at it and see what their next move is. Also, find out who's gunning for us. If we can negotiate, we will. If not, we'll handle it through PR."
Meanwhile, Caius was losing it.
He cursed inwardly, 'Damn it!'
The other side's moves were relentless and lightning-fast!
Not only was the old trending topic removed, but even the new one he was about to launch was quickly taken down as well.
He was totally outclassed!
It felt like he was punching a cloud.
He scrolled through the web, seeing nothing but praise for BK Pharmaceuticals and Mary.
Even a video of Mary helping an old lady cross the street was out, getting tons of love.
Those clueless netizens were typing away, posting their comments.
For the first time, Caius doubted himself. 'Am I getting old and out of touch with the internet?' he wondered.
"Quick, get more bloggers on this!" Caius barked, fuming.
This was a war of online opinion.
He wasn't about to lose.
"Let's see how tough the person behind this really is. Wanna play? Fine, let's see who has more cash! I'll bury you in money!" Caius shouted, his eyes blazing with rage.
He wanted to keep his title as one of the Twelve Emperors of Entertainment.
The Twelve Emperors of Entertainment were the top twelve gossip kings in the biz.
They had their own companies and teams, always sneaking around, filming celebs' private lives and schedules, stirring up hot topics.
Affairs, divorces, mistresses—these were all their bread and butter.
"Also, get in touch with those bloggers hyping up BK Pharmaceuticals. Tell them to cut it out! If they don't, they'll be blacklisted in this industry!" Caius said coldly.
He'd noticed a bunch of bloggers with millions of followers were backing BK Pharmaceuticals and spilling the truth.
Apollo came back, drenched in sweat and looking like a mess. "Boss, we can't get anything trending. Our posts are getting nuked instantly. The other side's got platform admins in their pocket, and ten of our accounts are banned for a month! Plus, those bloggers backing BK Pharmaceuticals told us to shove it. We lost this round!"
Apollo hated admitting defeat, but he was indeed defeated this time.
No matter how many posts and comments they fired off, they got deleted, and their accounts got the boot.
Their opponent was playing dirty and playing hard.
Caius freaked out, slamming the table. "Throw more money at it! Up the price to twenty million!"
"Boss, it's pointless. The other side's already dropped at least fifty million. If we wanna compete, we need this," Apollo said, holding up one finger.
One hundred million bucks!
Caius slumped in his chair. How could this be happening?
Was BK Pharmaceuticals' PR really this hardcore? They were going all in!
However, Caius didn't have that kind of cash lying around.
He needed to hit up Sterling.
Five minutes earlier, in the conference room of Alan's company, William stood by the big window, hands in his pockets, checking out the neon lights and skyscrapers outside.
Behind him, Patricia sauntered over, handed him a cup of coffee, and smiled seductively. "Mr. Jones, we're ready to roll."
William took the coffee, turned around, and looked at the dozens of entertainment bloggers in the room and the faces on the screens.
"Let's do this. Time to show them the real power of the internet!" William smirked.
As soon as he said that, the bloggers started blasting out their prepped posts, videos, and more.
In no time, trending topics were swamped with dirt on Infinity Insight Media and Caius: shady industry practices, the founder faking academic papers, Caius caught up in affairs and domestic violence. The internet was drowning in these stories.
The top ten trending topics were all about Infinity Insight Media and Caius!
Even Facebook's servers crashed!
Facebook officially announced to users that the servers are undergoing emergency maintenance.
After everything was set, William smiled and told Patricia, "Leak a bit about us, so they will know whom to negotiate with."
Patricia's eyes sparkled, instantly getting William's game plan.
William had killer business smarts; his moves were genius.
Caius was about to call Sterling when he saw the trending topics blow up.
Caius watched as those ten topics popped up out of nowhere and went viral.
The numbers behind each trending topic shot up from hundreds of thousands to millions, two million, and finally seven million!
It was insane.
Caius panicked and clicked on one topic, seeing the views had already hit a billion and were racing towards three billion, five billion!
And that was unprecedented.
'It's over!' Caius thought, feeling the weight of despair.
Who the hell was behind this with such god-like moves?
They were terrifying!
This wasn't just about trending topics; it was about cold, hard cash!
