Chapter 356 Underhanded Tactics
William furrowed his brow, looked at Susan silently for a while, and said, "No."
Susan also frowned. She turned her head away from William and walked into the villa by herself.
She thought to herself, 'Still pretending at this point? Fine, let's see how long you can keep it up.'
When Susan lost her temper, William awkwardly touched his nose and followed her. Clearly, she had asked him for help, so why did it seem like he was the one at fault?
Inside the luxurious villa, there were many long tables filled with food and drinks. Uniformed waitresses moved about, and dozens of young men and women, all smiling, mingled with drinks in hand.
This was a private party, attended by well-known heirs and entrepreneurs.
They weren't here just to have fun; they were here to talk business, make friends, and expand their networks.
'What on earth is Susan trying to achieve with this party?' William wondered.
William walked in just after Susan, but almost no one noticed him. All eyes were on Susan.
There were many beautiful women in the hall, but none as famous as Susan.
Instantly, the other women became mere foils to Susan.
Susan accepted everyone's gaze with ease as she was used to this kind of attention. She looked like cold but smiled politely and greeted everyone.
Seeing Susan's calm and approachable demeanor, William couldn't help but wonder if she had a split personality.
He thought for a moment, then walked toward the table to grab some snacks.
A rotund woman, lavishly adorned, had appeared beside him at some point. Seeing William eating without any reservations, she looked him up and down and showed a strong disdain in her eyes, mocking, "What a bumpkin! So rude!"
William frowned slightly. He had just eaten a few snacks; was it really that big of a deal?
"Excuse me, old woman, are you talking to me?" William asked.
The fat woman immediately widened her eyes, put one hand on her hip, and pointed at William with the other, shouting, "Who are you calling old woman? Are you blind? I'm only twenty-two!"
Twenty-two?
William found it hard to believe that this fat, greasy middle-aged woman was only twenty-two.
He didn't bother to explain, smiled, apologized, and walked away.
'Arguing with a woman is always a losing battle,' he thought to himself.
Suddenly, not far from William, a seductive woman in a low-cut dress slapped a male waiter hard across the face!
"Pervert! How dare you sneak a peek at me? I'll have someone gouge your eyes out!" the woman scolded coldly, crossing her arms and looking at the waiter with utter disdain.
The waiter stiffened his neck. Being slapped by a woman in front of so many people made him very angry. He glared at the woman, gritting his teeth.
"How dare you glare at me? Are you upset? Look at yourself! How dare you peep at me!" the woman crossed her arms over her chest, raised her chin arrogantly, and looked down on the waiter.
Many people around turned to look but, seeing that it was just a waiter being bullied, they said nothing and continued with their own business.
At this moment, a middle-aged man with a smiling face walked over.
He was probably the service manager of the party. He bowed politely to the woman and said, "Miss, I'm sorry. It was our oversight. He's new and inexperienced. Please calm down. I'll have him apologize immediately. I hope this won't spoil your mood."
The woman glanced up and down at the middle-aged man, sneered, and said, "Apologize? That's not enough. Get him out of here. I don't want to see him again. How dare a lowly waiter peep at me?"
The manager frowned at her words. This woman had just offended all the waiters with one sentence.
But he had no choice. He turned to the young waiter and said, "Apologize quickly."
The young waiter's eyes filled with tears. He stiffened his neck and said, "I just take a look at her. Why should I apologize? I won't apologize!"
The woman immediately frowned and said coldly, "Say that again! Did I give you permission to look? You're just a lowly waiter. Who do you think you are? So what if I hit you? You are so poor, dirty and shameless. No wonder you can only hide in dark corners and peep! Disgusting!"
The manager frowned and said coldly to the waiter, "Apologize quickly. If you don't, you can leave. We don't need employees like you here."
The young waiter's eyes immediately turned red. He bit his lip and glared at the woman.
After a long time, he finally lowered his head and said, "I'm sorry. I apologize for my behavior. Please forgive me."
The woman sneered and mocked, "Forgive you? You're not worthy!"
William, holding his snacks, watched from a distance. He had initially wanted to help, but seeing the waiter lower his head, he chose to remain silent.
If the waiter had shown a bit more backbone, he might have helped. But since the waiter chose to bow his head, he had no intention of helping.
He shook his head helplessly, watching the young waiter being taken away. Then, out of the corner of his eye, he noticed the woman swaying her hips and walking toward him with a flirtatious smile.
She was clearly coming for him. One moment she was arrogantly scolding someone, and the next she was all smiles. She was so fickle.
Paisley extended her hand and batted her eyes at William, speaking in a sweet voice, "Hi, I'm Paisley Rutherford."
William looked around and ignored her hand.
Paisley's smile gradually vanished. She said, "Well, let's drop the pretense. Jeffery sent me with a message for you: if you know what's best for you, stay away from Mary. If you don't, he'll find a hundred ways to make you regret it."
"Are you done?" William asked calmly, looking her up and down and rubbing his chin. "How much did he pay you?"
Paisley was furious at William's words. He was right; she had indeed been paid $100,000 by Jeffery!
"You'll regret this. I have ways to deal with you!" Paisley warned.
With that, she suddenly tore her inner shirt at the chest.
Then she messed up her hair, sat on the ground, and put on a frightened, shy expression, screaming, "Ah! Help! This pervert tried to molest me! Help!"
Her scream immediately drew everyone's attention. They all looked over and started talking about William and Paisley.
William was slightly stunned. He hadn't expected Paisley to be so ruthless, acting without any regard for the consequences.
The fat woman from earlier shouted, "It was him! I saw him sneaking around earlier. He looked suspicious. I didn't expect him to be so disgusting, daring to molest this lady!"
Someone chimed in, "Exactly, he's dressed like a beggar. How did he get in here?"
The banquet hall was abuzz with chatter.
Paisley, seeing everyone turning against William, felt very pleased and started wailing, "I don't want to live anymore. How could you do this to me? You pervert, you freak!"
Just then, a man in a white suit walked over and angrily shouted at William, "William, how could you do such a thing? You're too reckless! Even if you're Mary's husband, you can't be so lawless!"
This man was none other than Jeffery, who had noticed William coming earlier.
