Chapter 413 No Mercy
Mary rolled up to the company, ready to take the reins.
The board was in a panic, called in for an emergency meeting.
Someone blurted out, "What the heck do we do now? What's the Medical Association's deal? Why'd they revoke our license outta nowhere?"
"Beats me. But word on the street is Ms. Smith ticked off someone at the Medical Association, and now they're out for blood," someone whispered.
"Seriously? How come I didn't hear about this? Can we even keep the company running? A three-month shutdown? That's gonna cost us big time. Our investment's gonna go up in smoke," another voice chimed in.
The whole room was a madhouse.
The room was a chaos of voices, with rumors spreading in every direction.
Then the door swung open, and Mary, rocking a black trench coat, strolled in and headed straight for the head of the table.
The room went quiet, but not for long.
Someone piped up, "Ms. Smith, what's your plan? This is a disaster; we need a fix, pronto."
"Yeah, Ms. Smith, we can't just watch our investment go down the drain."
"I say we hit up Sterling from the Medical Association branch and hash this out."
The room erupted again, everyone throwing in their two cents.
Mary furrowed her brows and snapped, "Alright, enough! I'll take care of this. I'll handle the Medical Association. Everyone, clear out."
She knew she couldn't let them all freak out.
Having everyone in a tizzy was pointless.
But then, a troublemaker stood up and sneered, "Ms. Smith, this isn't gonna be easy. Shouldn't you make a promise? If you can't fix this, maybe we should think about replacing you as chairperson!"
Another voice echoed, "Yeah! A woman in charge? BK Pharmaceuticals is toast."
With those words, the rest of the board started buzzing again, and chaos reigned.
Mary clenched her fists, eyes cold, and declared, "Don't worry. I'll fix this!"
The room fell silent, but soon, mocking voices rose.
"Ms. Smith, it's not that we don't trust you, but it's hard to believe without proof."
"Exactly, BK Pharmaceuticals is huge, with so many eyes on us. It's tough for anyone to manage, especially a woman. Maybe you should think about stepping down, and we can elect someone else."
Mary's face grew colder. She knew some of these investors had ulterior motives from the start.
Some even wanted to take over BK Pharmaceuticals.
Now, they were showing their true colors.
A voice shouted, "Yeah, Ms. Smith, just saying it won't cut it. If you can't fix this, won't we all go bankrupt with you?"
Mary took a deep breath, feeling the pressure, but still promised, "Fine, if I can't fix this, I'll step down as chairperson!"
The ringleader, with a smug grin, said, "Good, Ms. Smith has guts. We'll be waiting."
"But." Mary paused and added, "If I do fix it, what will you do?"
The man chuckled, "Then I'll kneel and apologize to you and leave the company."
"Good," Mary said.
With that, the troublemakers left the room, satisfied.
The remaining members shook their heads and said, "Ms. Smith, it's obvious they're setting you up."
Mary smiled and said, "It's okay. I'll find a way."
The remaining board members exchanged glances and then left the room, looking defeated.
Brenda, watching from the side, said angrily, "Ms. Smith, those guys are the worst. They're clearly trying to push you out."
Brenda was fuming for Mary.
Mary's face was icy, but she forced a smile and said, "I know. Right now, we need to solve the problem."
Brenda nodded and handed over a tablet, "Ms. Smith, these are the rumors and slanders about us online. Facebook and Twitter are blowing up with criticism of our company."
Mary scrolled through Facebook and Twitter. Four out of the top ten trending topics were about BK Pharmaceuticals, including herself.
She saw all sorts of nasty insults.
It was clear this was a coordinated attack against BK Pharmaceuticals.
Mary knew the enemy behind this was no joke.
"Get the PR team on this ASAP. We need to squash those rumors and minimize the damage. Also, get a crew to hit back with the facts," Mary said, rubbing her temples, feeling the headache.
"Got it," Brenda replied, then bolted out of the room.
Now, it was just Mary in the big, empty conference room.
She wasn't sure if she could tackle the online smear campaign.
Last time, Crescent Investment Group's big bucks swayed public opinion.
Should she call William?
Mary hesitated; she didn't want to lean on William for every little thing.
She wanted to stand on her own two feet.
Before long, William showed up at the company.
He walked into the board office, saw the worry etched on Mary's face, and knew something was up. "Babe, what's going on?" he asked.
Mary managed a small smile. "It's nothing. I'm on it."
"How's it going?" William pressed.
Mary shook her head. "The Medical Association branch revoke our license and shut us down for three months. But don't worry. I'm handling it. I know Sterling from the branch; I'll reach out to him and see what's up."
William could tell Mary wanted to handle this solo.
"Can you really handle this on your own? I saw the news online; it looks pretty bad," William said, concern in his eyes.
Mary nodded, stood up, and took his arm. "Babe, I know you want to help, but can I tackle this myself? I already promised the board."
William thought for a moment. "Alright, but if you hit a wall, come to me."
Mary's lips curled into a smile. "Can you even take on the Medical Association?"
"Maybe," William said with a sly grin.
Mary didn't argue, but she had her doubts.
This wasn't just about money; it was about connections and clout.
Once the Medical Association revoke the license, no amount of cash could fix it.
Could William really have a way?
William saw her hesitation. "You don't believe me?"
Mary shook her head and smiled. "I believe you, but let me handle it, okay?"
William shrugged, knowing Mary was trying to reassure him.
So he didn't dwell on this thing.
After hanging around for about ten minutes, William told Mary to take care of herself and then left the company.
Looking back at the towering building and the lit window, William sighed.
Mary was too stubborn for her own good.
Then, he pulled out his phone and called Alan. "Alan, dig up who's behind the online smear campaign against BK Pharmaceuticals."
"Mr. Jones, I'm on it," Alan replied and hung up.
Half an hour later, William was in Alan's office.
There was a knock on the door.
It was Patricia, Alan's right-hand woman.
"Hello, Mr. Jones. Hello, Mr. Jordan," Patricia greeted politely.
She had long legs, a slim waist, and a killer figure, making her the ideal woman in many men's eyes—capable and smart.
"Ms. Evans, long time no see," William said, smiling. He greatly admired Patricia.
Alan stood by, watching quietly.
If William weren't married, he might have offered Patricia to him.
"So, did you find out?" William asked directly.
"Mr. Jones, the false rumors and slanders against BK Pharmaceuticals and your wife are being orchestrated by someone. The culprit is a local entertainment company with a seasoned team. They handle a lot of celebrity gossip and trending topics," Patricia said, handing over the info.
"Who is it?" William asked.
"Infinity Insight Media. The real owner is Caius. They run a bunch of gossip accounts. They spread rumors about BK Pharmaceuticals and Mary," Patricia said, showing printed screenshots from the internet.
"Caius?"
William frowned. These entertainment companies thrived on gossip and hype.
They made bank off trending topics about big celebrities.
"Mr. Jones, this company has made a lot of dirty money and has a lot of skeletons in its closet. They've done plenty of shady stuff and have no morals. They must've been paid big bucks to spread rumors about BK Pharmaceuticals," Patricia continued.
William lit a cigarette, a cold smile spreading across his face, his eyes glinting with a chilling light. "No morals, huh? That makes it easier for me to deal with them without holding back! Messing with my wife crosses my line!"
