Chapter 148 Jessica Arrives
As soon as William finished speaking, the entire restaurant hall fell into a deathly silence.
Everyone looked at William with skeptical eyes.
Was this guy an idiot?
That was the question on everyone's mind.
Millions or even billions in assets? Didn't Elbert say he only had just over thirty thousand and could only afford such a pitifully small diamond ring?
His girlfriend dumped him and hooked up with a rich guy.
Lisa also had a mocking smile on her face and said to William, "What did you say? Elbert, this loser, just like you, can have millions or billions in assets? Are you kidding me?"
Lisa sneered inwardly. How dare William put on airs? Instead of quickly taking Elbert away from this place of trouble, he still wanted to be the center of attention.
Millions or billions in assets?
What a joke!
She had been with Elbert for four years and knew his family's background inside out.
The man next to Lisa also mocked William mercilessly. "Lisa, who is this idiot? Do you know him?"
He had never seen such a shameless man.
He wasn't alone in mocking William. Most of Lisa's friends chimed in.
"Oh my God! This guy is disgusting."
"Poor Elbert, dumped by Lisa and now stabbed in the back by his own friend."
"They're both losers. Birds of a feather flock together."
They laughed disdainfully.
Elbert was still kneeling on the ground. His eyes were vacant and tears were streaming down his face. He clutched his passbook tightly.
He then stood up and said to William, "Let's go."
He wanted to leave this heartbreaking place.
However, William grabbed Elbert and said, "Why leave? Are you just going to swallow this insult? I won't let anyone leave until they apologize to you."
William was firm. He wouldn't allow Lisa and the others to insult his best friend like this.
Money? he had plenty of it!
However, Elbert's face was flushed, and he urged William, "Forget it, let's go."
The middle-aged man laughed heartily and said, "Get lost, you two losers! Stop pretending to be rich. If you have millions or billions in assets, I'll kneel down and apologize to you."
Elbert's chest was burning with rage, but he knew he couldn't afford to provoke the man. It was obvious that the rich guy Lisa hooked up with was very wealthy. He wasn't someone he could mess with.
What he could do was endure it.
But William couldn't endure it.
William turned around and looked coldly at the middle-aged man and said, "Remember what you just said!"
"What, you want to stand up for him? What right do you have to shout at me?" The middle-aged fat man was very displeased with William's attitude. Was he really that stupid?
As soon as the middle-aged man finished speaking, William had already dialed George's number.
On the other end, George respectfully replied, "Young Master, what are your orders?"
William coldly looked at the middle-aged fat man in front of him and asked, "What's your name?"
"My name is Ernest! What, are you going to get someone to beat me up?" Ernest's looked at William with disdain.
Lisa held Ernest's arm tightly, also showing her disgust towards William. "William, what are you doing? Just take your loser friend and get out of here, okay?"
At this point, Helen also walked out, standing next to Lisa. She pointed at William with an air of superiority and shouted, "Exactly! Let me tell you, last time he came to our Harley-Davidson store, claiming he wanted to buy a hundred Harley-Davidsons, and I kicked him out. That just shows you how stupid he is!"
Immediately, everyone burst into laughter, and various mocking comments followed.
"Damn! I didn't see that coming, he's such a braggart."
"This kind of person is disgusting, a real embarrassment for us men."
"I really want to smash the phone in his hand, who does he think he's calling?"
Facing the crowd, William remained very calm and said to George, "Check on a man named Ernest and transfer all his assets to Elbert's name, quickly."
After saying that, William hung up the phone and waited quietly.
Immediately, everyone burst into laughter.
They all pointed at William and said, "Damn, is this guy out of his mind?"
Lisa and Helen couldn't help but snicker.
William was beyond saving.
Elbert also felt ashamed and couldn't help but tug at William, whispering, "William, forget it, let's go."
It wasn't that Elbert didn't want to believe William, but the call William just made was too outrageous.
However, William calmly said, "Don't worry, it will be quick."
"You're overdoing it. Transfer all my assets to Elbert's name? Are you kidding me?" Ernest laughed mockingly.
But just as he finished speaking, a sudden ringing sound echoed in the restaurant hall.
Everyone couldn't help but want to check their phones.
But most people knew it wasn't their ringtone.
William glanced indifferently at Ernest and nodded his chin, indicating, "It's yours."
Ernest was stunned, he took out his phone from his pocket. It was indeed his, and it was his secretary.
Didn't he say not to disturb him today?
Ernest furrowed his brow, clearly unsure of the meaning behind the call. He answered it with a smile, saying, "Perfect timing, my secretary is calling. I'll ask if my assets have been..."
But before he could finish, the sexy yet anxious voice of his secretary came through the phone. "Boss! Something terrible has happened! Our company has suddenly been acquired, and all assets have been transferred to someone else's name."
Ernest was stunned. Cold sweat broke out on his forehead. He asked, "What?"
His eyes were fixed on William, a strong sense of unease causing his whole body to tremble violently.
"Boss, all your assets have been transferred to someone else. You are personally bankrupt now!" the secretary said urgently.
Ernest felt a loud bang in his head, his face turned pale with shock, and he collapsed to the ground.
This scene terrified everyone.
Lisa was especially agitated. She pulled Ernest and whined, "Ernest, what's wrong? What happened?"
Ernest sat on the ground, his face ashen.
Bankrupt? Personally bankrupt? This couldn't be happening!
Immediately, Ernest shouted into the phone, "Who? Who did it get transferred to?"
On the other end, the secretary stammered, "Someone named Elbert..."
It was over!
Completely over!
Ernest's eyes went blank. When he heard Elbert's name, he knew he had lost everything.
Before anyone could react, they saw Ernest kneeling in front of William, continuously kowtowing and begging for mercy. "Please forgive me. I was wrong, I was really wrong!"
This scene left everyone dumbfounded.
What was going on?
Lisa was also shocked. She asked, "Ernest, what's wrong with you? Why are you kowtowing to him?"
In a fit of rage, Ernest slapped Lisa hard.
He then stood up angrily and slapped her again, shouting, "Damn! You've ruined me! All my assets have been transferred to Elbert!"
Lisa was stunned, feeling very wronged. She covered her cheek and her eyes were filled with tears.
"Transferred? Ernest, you must be joking."
Lisa was now extremely nervous. What was Ernest doing? Was he cooperating with William to put on a show?
But the next second, Ernest knelt in front of Elbert, begging, "Elbert, please spare me. I was wrong. I shouldn't have slept with your woman. Please forgive me!"
Ernest was a smart man. For William to transfer all his assets with just one phone call, he must have immense power.
He couldn't afford to provoke him any further.
What he could do was beg for mercy.
At that moment, everyone was dumbfounded, their faces showing expressions of shock.
Lisa was especially confused.
All of Ernest's assets were transferred, and they were now under Elbert's name.
That amounted to billions in assets, which meant that Elbert was now a billionaire.
How was that even possible?
All it too was one phone call by William.
"Impossible! This is absolutely impossible! Ernest, you must be joking," Lisa said in disbelief.
The onlookers didn't believe it either. This had to be a joke.
But the next second, law enforcement officers walked in, grabbing Ernest and saying, "Ernest, you are under suspicion of using illegal means to gain profits. Come with us and cooperate with the investigation."
Everyone watched as Ernest was dragged away.
So it was all actually real.
Suddenly, everyone's gaze towards William changed, becoming curious and a little afraid.
Just one phone call, and Ernest was taken down.
William glared at Lisa and said, "You're next."
With just one sentence, Lisa's legs went weak, and she immediately knelt on the ground, crying, "William, I was wrong. I shouldn't have mocked you. I didn't know you were so powerful. Please forgive me."
Lisa was a despicable woman.
William said coldly, "You should apologize to Elbert."
Elbert was still in a daze, watching the woman he had loved for four years kneel on the ground and crawl toward him like a dog, begging, "Elbert, please forgive me. I was wrong. I shouldn't have deceived you. I deserve to die!"
As she spoke, Lisa slapped herself a few times, crying and trying to gain Elbert's sympathy.
But Elbert's heart had long been broken. He looked at Lisa, clenched his fists and roared angrily, "Get lost! From now on, I'll have nothing to do with you."
Lisa was frightened but hurriedly got up, glanced at Elbert and William, and left in shame and anger with her friends.
As the crowd dispersed, William patted Elbert on the shoulder. Seeing the latter's curious expression, he simply said, "Any questions can wait. Today, let's drink until we drop."
Elbert nodded and went into the private room with William, where they drank to their heart's content.
In the end, it was William who called a car to take Elbert home.
Afterward, William turned to the parking lot, intending to go back to the hospital to check on Sarah.
But just then, Mary called.
"Mary, what's up?" William asked, walking in the wind, trying to blow away the smell of alcohol.
There was a moment of silence on the other end, and then Mary spoke softly, "William, a woman named Jessica came to see Sarah. She said you are..."
