Chapter 214 Susan's Birthday
Margaret was fuming, grinding her teeth in disbelief. She couldn't believe William wanted her to apologize.
"You useless piece of trash, how dare you!" she spat.
"William, what are you talking about? I'm your mother-in-law!" she snapped, her face red and eyes blazing.
Inside, she was worried. What if William really made her apologize?
'This is driving me crazy! It's so humiliating,' she thought.
Tyler stood by silently, enjoying Margaret's moment of humiliation.
"Tyler, what are you doing? Can't you see how arrogant William is? Aren't you going to back me up?" Margaret was annoyed at Tyler's indifference.
Tyler smiled, trying to calm things down. "William, let it go. We're all family. Margaret just spoke out of anger this morning. Don't take it seriously. How can a mother-in-law apologize to her son-in-law? People will laugh at us if they find out."
"Exactly! William, do you want to be a laughingstock? You want me to apologize? Keep dreaming!" Margaret felt emboldened by Tyler's support.
William, however, was serious. "Margaret, I'm not joking. You need to take responsibility for your words. This villa belongs to Mary and me. If you want to stay, apologize. Otherwise, leave after your visit."
He turned to leave with Mary, who didn't stop him. She knew William was asserting his ownership and that Margaret wouldn't apologize. Margaret would likely throw a fit and leave.
Sure enough, Margaret, furious, pointed at William and cursed, "You've got some nerve! Apologize to you? Are you out of your mind? Even if I don't get to live here, I won't apologize!"
She smashed the cups on the coffee table, grabbed her bag, and stormed out, cursing all the way. Tyler sighed and reluctantly followed.
Outside, Margaret kept ranting, "Tyler, why is William so arrogant? He can't possibly afford that villa. He must have tricked Mary into buying it. I can't just leave. That would make William the winner. Such a nice house, and he gets to live in it?"
She muttered, feeling extremely uncomfortable, and kept looking back at Villa No.1. It was so tempting. A villa!
"What do you want? William made it clear. Aren't you going to apologize?" Tyler was exasperated. 'What is Margaret thinking?'
Margaret used to be arrogant, but not this unreasonable.
"What do you know? Mary must have paid for this villa. William must have tricked her into adding his name. If we leave, what will happen to Mary?" Margaret said resentfully.
The more Margaret thought about it, the more wrong it seemed. She quickly turned around and ran back.
At the door, she bumped into William coming out.
"Where's Mary?" Margaret asked.
"She left," William replied indifferently, hands in his pockets.
Margaret hesitated, then gritted her teeth and asked, "William, if I really apologize, will you let us move in?"
William's heart skipped a beat. What was Margaret planning?
Before William could react, Margaret quickly blurted out, "I'm sorry," then turned and left, shouting, "I'll move in later, and you can't kick us out this time!"
Watching her drag Tyler away, William shook his head and laughed. Margaret really knew how to adapt. She actually apologized.
Fine, they could move in.
Margaret hurried back to the old Smith family house, hired a moving company, and even put their house up for sale online.
She led the movers in a grand procession to Villa No.1, making a big show of it for the upscale neighborhood.
To top it off, she even set off fireworks at the entrance, the only one ever to do so.
Tyler watched as Margaret redecorated the house, turning the nice decor into a colorful mess. "Stop messing around. If William gets upset, he'll kick us out again. This villa doesn't have your name on it," he advised.
Margaret snapped out of her dream. Tyler was right, her name wasn't on the deed. She was just living under someone else's roof. Unacceptable!
"Tyler, we need to get Mary to add our names and remove William's! Mary bought this villa. We can't let that useless William benefit from this! If they divorce, we'll have to split half the property. Do you want that?" Margaret said.
Margaret sat down, thinking hard for a solution.
Tyler, annoyed, said, "How do you know William didn't buy this villa?"
"Are you stupid? This villa is worth two hundred million! If Mary didn't use her investment money, how could William afford it?" Margaret rolled her eyes.
Tyler thought she made sense. "I won't get involved. Do whatever you want; it has nothing to do with me." Then, he left to make new friends.
Meanwhile, William's phone rang. It was Susan. "William, we're celebrating my birthday tonight. Don't forget you promised to come."
William remembered he had agreed. "All right, I'll be there later."
"How about I pick you up tonight?" Susan asked, excited.
"No need," William shook his head. His relationship with Susan was still unclear. If she picked him up in a luxury car, it would be hard to explain. He didn't want people to start gossiping. "Just give me the address, and I'll take a cab."
"All right, when you arrive, just mention my name," Susan nodded, a bit disappointed.
William decided not to tell Mary about Susan's birthday celebration. He didn't want her to overthink it, and he had another purpose for going tonight: to make things clear with Susan.
Susan's birthday party was at Sunset Manor, a high-end club by the river in Lindwood City. William first visited Sarah at the hospital, then took a cab to Sunset Manor. He saw many limos parked, even a Rolls-Royce Phantom. There were only a few of these in Lindwood City.
'It seems Susan invited many people tonight. What is she planning?' William wondered.
As he entered the banquet hall, a surprised voice called out, "William?"
He turned and saw a familiar smiling face staring at him. What was she doing here?
