Chapter 376 Ellie Jones
"No, I'm dead serious," William said, stepping closer. The room was already cramped, and now he was practically in Layla's face.
"You think I'm kidding you?" William leaned in, eyes locked on hers.
Layla frowned. She could feel the threat in his words.
Did he figure something out?
Neither of them spoke, but the tension in the tiny room was thick. Layla's breathing quickened, a dead giveaway she was hiding something.
Seeing her clammed up, William edged even closer.
Layla's body went rigid, her breath coming in short gasps. Her face turned pale as she warned, "Someone could walk in any second. Don't do anything stupid!"
William's cold stare bore into Layla, a grin spreading across his face. "Oh, really? Let me tell you, even if I do something to you right here, no one can touch me. Believe that?"
Layla's heart sank. William's aura was off the charts, stronger than anyone she'd ever met, making her feel powerless.
His tone was calm, but it hit her like a ton of bricks.
"Still not spilling the beans? Who the hell are you?" William's voice was icy.
Even though she was a knockout, his eyes stayed clear and focused.
From the moment he walked in, William knew something was off about Layla.
"You think you can hide from me?" William shook his head, sneering, "If you had any real power, you'd have used it by now. You wouldn't be at my mercy. So, who are you? What's your game? Maybe I'll let you go for Mary's sake."
Layla bit her lip, her eyes flickering with indecision.
"Don't push me," William warned, his voice cold.
Layla's body trembled, but she just lowered her head, staying silent.
William frowned. He didn't expect her to hold out under this pressure. "Really not gonna talk?"
He wasn't worried about Layla pulling any tricks. He had plenty of ways to handle her.
"Since you're choosing silence, be ready to face the consequences," William said, suddenly pressing down on her, his eyes flashing coldly.
Layla's face flushed with shame and anger, which had a strange allure.
Furious, Layla snapped, "You jerk! Do you even know what you're doing?"
She swore that once she got out, she'd make William pay!
She'd never been so humiliated in her life!
"Are you threatening me? So what?" William sneered, his eyes cold, his face hard.
"I'm actually a nice guy and hate causing trouble. Why do you think I'm threatening you? If you didn't have some hidden agenda, why'd you get so close to me?"
"Look at you. You're clearly fishing for something from me, but you're making it look like I'm the bad guy here. Don't you think I should be the one feeling wronged?" William shot back.
Layla didn't respond, her face red with shame, her eyes blazing with anger. "Get out of my way, or I'll scream for help."
William couldn't help but laugh. "Go ahead. Scream. If you want people to see you like this, be my guest."
Upon hearing this, Layla deflated, lowering her head. "What do you want?" she asked softly.
William grinned and made a grabbing motion in the air, causing Layla to shrink back.
Layla's breathing was all over the place. She was terrified William might actually do something.
"Scared?" William asked, his voice dripping with mockery.
He didn't push further but instead played a mind game. "When you decided to test me, you should've known the risks. Given your allure to men, didn't it concern you to be alone in a room with me? Weren't you afraid I might do something? Yet, you still did it, which means you had a damn good reason."
He continued, "I see two possibilities: either I have something you really want, or you're acting under someone's orders. Am I right?"
Layla trembled, her breathing quickening, eyes wide with fear.
It was clear William had hit the nail on the head.
Now, William didn't hold back, flashing a teasing smile. "Of course, there's another possibility: you are interested in me. If that's the case, I hope you respect yourself. I'm Mary's husband, and you're her friend."
Layla, still tense, felt a surge of anger.
'William is so full of himself! How could anyone be this shameless?' Layla fumed internally.
She forced herself to calm down and coldly said, "William, move aside, or you'll regret it!"
She raised her chin, bit her lips hard enough to draw blood, and stared at William with trembling eyes.
She was in torment, regretting her rashness.
Why did she make the first move? Why didn't she wait? What if she blew her master's plan?
"My patience is running thin. You've got one minute to spill!" William said coldly, clearly losing his cool.
He wouldn't tolerate any threat to Mary.
Layla was clearly bad news.
Just as Layla was about to make a desperate move, there was a knock on the door.
Mary's voice came from outside, "Layla, are you done?"
Layla let out a sigh of relief at the sound of Mary's voice.
But William coldly declared, "I'll let you go for now. I warn you, don't mess with Mary. Or, not only you but also the people behind you won't be spared!"
Layla gritted her teeth and snapped, "William, you're so full of yourself! Just wait and see."
Looking at Layla, William announced coldly, "Bring it on. Remember my words. This time I'm letting you go. If you don't come clean, I'll come to you, and it won't be pretty."
With that, he turned and left, while Layla stood there, stunned for several seconds.
When the knocking came again, she finally pulled herself together and walked to the door.
Opening the door, Mary was all smiles. Seeing Layla's flushed face, she couldn't help but ask, "Layla, why's your face so red?"
Layla touched her burning cheeks and remembered the tense moment with William in the changing room, feeling a surge of anger.
"Is it? Maybe it's too hot in here," Layla said awkwardly. She didn't tell Mary about what William did to her right away; she had her reasons.
"By the way, William, some woman asked me to give this to you," Mary said, holding out a small square box.
"A woman? Who?" William asked, puzzled. Who could find this place?
He glanced at Layla, who turned her face away, indicating she didn't know.
"I don't know her. She just gave her name, Ellie Jones," Mary replied.
She pouted and murmured, "She has the same last name as you, William. Do you know her?"
