Chapter 440 Gambling

William mulled it over for a sec, hiding his thoughts behind a grin, and said, "Nah, it's nothing. Have an apple."

As he spoke, he handed the apple he was holding to Mary.

Mary gave him a few side glances but didn't push it. She just furrowed her brows a bit.

What was William about to spill earlier?

In the afternoon, William headed back to the villa.

The moment he walked in, he saw Margaret and Delia chatting on the couch.

Margaret shot William a quick look and then ignored him.

William did the same.

They acted like they were total strangers.

After William went upstairs, Delia said, "Margaret, you have no idea how rough it was for me while you were gone. I didn't dare show my face around him, scared he'd boot me out too."

The day Margaret got kicked out, Delia got a warning.

She could stay but had to keep her nose clean.

Margaret snorted and said, "What are you scared of? Now that I'm back, he can't kick me out again. No way I'm letting this slide. How dare he kick me out? It's ridiculous!"

Margaret had been stewing over this for ages, unable to let it go.

"Margaret, William is the big boss of Crescent Investment Group. Can we really take him on?" Delia asked nervously, not wanting to end up like Margaret and get the boot.

Margaret smirked and said, "Relax. I got a plan."

Margaret came back this time with a mission: to deal with William.

She couldn't stand losing.

Margaret and Delia schemed downstairs for a bit before leaving the villa.

Once outside, Margaret flagged down a car, and Delia quickly asked, "Margaret, where are we headed?"

"You'll see when we get there," Margaret said with a grin.

Soon, they arrived at a dock where a yacht was parked.

With an air of confidence, Margaret pulled an invite from her bag and handed it to the guy in the black suit standing guard.

The guy glanced at the invite and then at them, saying in a low voice, "One invite per person."

Margaret immediately raised her voice, "She's with me."

The guy shook his head, not budging an inch.

Margaret, getting anxious, pulled out her phone and said, "Fine, I'll make a call."

Soon, the call connected, and a sultry, lazy female voice answered, "Who is it?"

"Hey, Ms. Guild, this is Margaret. I brought a relative today who wants to board the yacht, but your guy here is saying one invite per person. Can you make an exception?" Margaret pleaded, her tone dripping with flattery.

"Give him the phone," the voice on the other end said.

Her voice was so lazy and sultry that even Margaret imagined its owner must be a knockout.

Margaret had never met her, only spoken on the phone a couple of times.

Margaret handed the phone to the guard.

After a few mumbled words, the guard let them through.

Margaret, thrilled, led Delia onto the yacht.

The yacht quickly left the dock, and after about ten minutes, they spotted a massive white cruise ship.

Upon boarding the cruise ship, Margaret and Delia were blown away by its luxury.

The cruise ship had four levels. The third level, which was brightly lit and packed, was a casino.

It was buzzing with noise, filled with socialites and rich kids.

Margaret and Delia looked at the tables and the lavish spending, feeling a deep longing.

This was the high life.

Margaret and Delia exchanged a glance, and Margaret pulled out tens of thousands of dollars from her bag, smiling. "Wanna play a few rounds?"

Delia was all in; she had never played before.

Before long, they converted their cash into chips and dived into gambling across various tables.

Margaret blew through all the cash she brought, and then some casino dude suggested she could borrow money right there.

Caught up in the gambling rush, Margaret signed without a second thought, borrowing a cool million to keep playing.

At first, she was on fire, doubling her money to two million and getting back all her losses.

Delia, watching from the sidelines, was so hyped she was jumping up and down, yelling, "Margaret, we're loaded!"

Even though Margaret knew they were rolling in it, she refused to leave, convinced she could keep the streak going.

The dealer exchanged a quick look, and things went south fast.

Soon enough, Margaret lost all her winnings, borrowed more, and lost again.

The losses piled up to a whopping ten million dollars!

In the end, overwhelmed by her losses, Margaret stormed off in a rage, shouting, "I'm done. This is a scam!"

Cursing, she tried to drag Delia away in a hurry.

But two tattooed dudes blocked her path.

A manager, all smiles, said to Margaret, "Hey there, when do you plan to pay back the money you borrowed?"

Margaret, never having faced something like this, stammered in fear, "I'll have my son-in-law pay it back. I need to go take care of my daughter."

Then, she tried to bolt.

But the two tattooed guys grabbed her.

The manager pulled out the promissory note Margaret had signed earlier and said, "Take a good look. You borrowed one hundred million dollars from our casino. If you don't pay it back by midnight, it'll be ten times that amount."

Margaret exploded, shouting, "What nonsense are you talking about? I clearly borrowed ten million dollars! Where did one hundred million come from? This is robbery. It's fraud!"

Margaret realized she had been trapped.

The manager shook his head calmly and said, "No, it's one hundred million dollars. The last bet was a tenfold increase, and you lost ninety million dollars, plus the ten million you borrowed, totaling one hundred million dollars."

"Bullshit! This is fraud. It's illegal. I'll sue you," Margaret roared.

Suddenly, the manager slapped her hard, knocking her to the ground, where she clutched her face and wailed.

"Don't test my patience. Over the years, many who didn't repay their debts have ended up at the bottom of the river. Do you want to join them?" the manager threatened, squatting down and smirking at Margaret and Delia.

Terrified, Margaret cried and pleaded, "Don't kill me! I'll pay!"

"Good! Get the money!" the manager demanded.

Margaret panicked. She didn't have that kind of cash.

"I don't have that much money," Margaret stammered, avoiding the manager's gaze in fear.

The manager kicked her hard, cursing, "You bitch! Are you fucking kidding me? I'll throw you into the river right now!"

"No! My son-in-law has money. I'll call him to bring the money!" Margaret hurriedly said.

In her panic, she lost her cool and pulled out her phone to call William.

The phone rang for what felt like forever before it was answered.

"William, come save me! They're gonna throw me into the river," Margaret exclaimed, bursting into tears.

William had just left the villa when he got Margaret's call.

"What happened?" he asked, frowning.

"I'm on a cruise ship. I lost money gambling, and they won't let me leave," Margaret replied, knowing her life depended on William now. After all, he was the boss of Crescent Investment Group and should be loaded.

"How much did you lose?" William asked, frowning.

"One hundred million dollars," Margaret mumbled.

The call was abruptly disconnected.

Margaret was stunned and terrified, shouting, "William? William!"

She dialed again, shouting, "William! I'm your family. Are you just going to stand by and do nothing?"
