Chapter 245 The Head of the Miller Family
When the door was pushed open, William turned around to see a figure dressed in a gray suit leaning on a red-gold cane. The person appeared to be over seventy years old, slightly hunched, with squinted eyes and a faint smile on his lips.
He stood at the doorway, a mountainous figure that constricted the hall's air.
Even though he had restrained his aura well, the imposing presence that leaked from within still made William frown.
The man was Caleb Miller, the current head of the Miller family, Jessica's father.
Caleb was extremely arrogant and proud.
In just forty years, he had developed the Miller family to be second only to the Jones family.
Caleb was also extremely ambitious.
Behind Caleb stood Orson, a middle-aged man in his forties or fifties with gray hair and black glasses. He wore a black suit and tie, held a briefcase, and always nodded slightly. Though he didn't look particularly remarkable, everyone present knew that anyone who could be Caleb's close attendant was definitely extraordinary.
Orson's gaze at William was indifferent, making William feel like confronting a formidable enemy.
Suddenly, a figure appeared in the hall!
At some point, a man with a body as tense as a leopard, exuding a murderous aura, appeared in front of William. With a handsome face and cold eyes, he stared at Orson behind Caleb as if he were prey.
The man was Benjamin Bryant.
He was adopted by Mario from a young age and trained through various grueling methods to become a sharp blade dedicated to protecting William.
This blade belonged solely to William!
Only William and Mario knew of Benjamin's existence.
Benjamin was a blade that could pierce through any enemy!
Seven years ago, William had sent Benjamin abroad, and he had just returned recently.
A brief eye contact seemed to last a century.
The entire room suddenly exploded with a murderous aura!
Jessica looked at Benjamin in front of William and instantly recognized him. The last time William came, the hidden assassin he brought was Benjamin!
"Orson," Caleb said in a deep voice, slightly displeased.
Orson, behind him, immediately bowed his head and restrained the murderous aura he was emitting.
"Yes, Mr. Miller," Orson said respectfully, his attitude and tone full of reverence.
William raised an eyebrow and glanced at Benjamin. Only then did Benjamin restrain his aura and move to stand by the side, leaning against a carved pillar. He constantly played with a dagger in his hand, his eyes never leaving Orson for a second.
As Caleb stepped into the hall, the sound of his cane tapping on the floor made William and Nicholas not dare to relax at all.
Why did Caleb suddenly appear here?
"Dad," Jessica said, stepping forward to help Caleb get a seat.
William and Nicholas exchanged a glance, and Nicholas laughed heartily. "Haha, I didn't expect to see the current head of the Miller family here today."
With that, Nicholas sat down directly, showing no sign of fear.
The Jones family feared no one.
In this world, there was nothing that could make the Jones family afraid.
The Miller family was not to be feared.
Caleb was even less to be feared.
This was Nicholas' confidence and pride.
Caleb squinted and smiled, saying, "Nicholas, even if your brother Mario were standing here now, he would have to show me respect."
Nicholas' face froze, and his eyes were filled with coldness. He said, "Caleb, trying to use Mario to intimidate me won't work. I have always believed in the power I hold in my own hands, and I can't stand you old folks who are about to die still talking nonsense."
Jessica's face turned cold, and she said in a cold voice, "Nicholas, he is my father, Mario's father-in-law. Speaking like this, aren't you losing the dignity of the Jones family?"
Jessica was very displeased with Nicholas' attitude towards Caleb. In her eyes, no one could be so disrespectful to Caleb, not even Nicholas.
"Jessica, in my eyes, you are nothing. Understand?" Nicholas said as he smoked his pipe, a cold smile on his lips, his mustache full of provocation.
In an instant, dozens of men in black suits rushed out from all corners of the hall, surrounding the area.
The group, each with a gun in hand, awaited Jessica's orders with serious faces and murderous intent.
Suddenly, the atmosphere in the entire hall became extremely tense and murderous.
From behind the crowd, Jessica's personal assistant, Zoe, stepped forward. Standing in front of Jessica, she bowed respectfully and said, "Ms. Miller, he disrespected Mr. Caleb Miller! He deserves to die!"
Jessica's eyes widened in anger as she glared at Zoe. With a slap, she struck Zoe across the face and angrily said, "Who let you in here! Get out, all of you!"
A group of people retreated at Jessica's command.
Nicholas sat on the sofa, leaning back and laughing heartily. "Jessica, are all the Miller family members so rash? How can you achieve anything great in the future?"
From beginning to end, William sat to the side, remaining silent.
Because he knew it was Nicholas' turn to take the lead.
Jessica's face was stern, her lips twitching slightly, wishing she could kill Nicholas right now. That way, the Jones family would lose a key player.
But she didn't dare.
She feared the power Nicholas held.
Of course, after all these years, Nicholas also feared the power Jessica held.
The two sides had been openly and covertly fighting for over a decade, mutually restraining each other.
"Alright, we're all family," Caleb spoke up at this moment, sitting in the main seat on the sofa, his hands resting on his cane. He glanced at William sitting over there and, with interest, said, "This must be Mario's son, William. Truly extraordinary. You're just like your father."
William coldly smiled, stood up, and, with his hands in his pockets, said, "Sorry, but the Jones family and the Miller family are not family. I thought the Miller family was something special, but if the Miller family is led by someone like you, I'm truly disappointed."
This sudden remark left Jessica and Caleb completely stunned.
Both of them frowned deeply.
Jessica squinted her eyes, and she said coldly to William, "William, do you know what you just said?"
William shrugged indifferently. "Let me repeat it. I, William, Mario's son, am twenty-five years old today. You, Caleb, are over seventy, right?"
With that, William walked out of the hall, leaving behind a figure that made Caleb's expression grow colder.
Nicholas also laughed a few times, got up, and left the hall. He exclaimed in his mind, 'The sons of the Jones family are indeed extraordinary.'
The atmosphere in the hall was very oppressive.
"Father, what do you think of him?" Jessica asked.
She sat beside Caleb, personally making tea for him.
Caleb squinted his eyes, a faint, cold smile on his lips. "Mario has a good son. This is the first time someone has spoken to me like that."
As he spoke, Caleb also felt a bit melancholic.
He thought, 'Yes, I'm over seventy, and compared to William, there's a huge gap. Time is running out.'
"Orson, what did you see from him?" Caleb asked Orson beside him.
Orson finally spoke, very respectfully, "Invaluable."
Caleb's face turned livid. He thought, 'Invaluable! The Jones family already had one invaluable person, and now another? When will the Miller family rise?'
"Impossible!!!" Caleb yelled.
The usually calm Caleb suddenly erupted, smashing the cup into pieces!
He angrily struck the floor with his cane and said, "Why is it still invaluable? No! Absolutely not! Mario has suppressed the Miller family for forty years! Will the Miller family be suppressed by William for the next forty years?"
"Dad, please calm down," Jessica said.
She quickly helped the furious Caleb sit down, soothing his chest. "I am almost ready. The Miller family will not lose this time. This world belongs to the Miller family."
Just then, a maid previously serving Mary entered, hands pressed to her abdomen, speaking respectfully, "Ms. Smith is waiting in the side hall."
Jessica nodded, instructed the servants to arrange for Caleb to rest, and then composed herself before heading to the side hall.
Mary had been waiting in the side hall for over ten minutes.
She didn't dare to wander around as it was too big and luxurious here.
Just then, she heard some commotion outside.
A voice said, "William, I came in such a hurry this time, I didn't prepare any gifts for you. This is a gift I bought on the way, for..."
"Uncle Nicholas, you don't have to..."
The voice sounded so familiar that it seemed like William's voice.
Mary listened as the voices grew distant, quickly walked to the door, and looked in the direction of the sound.
