Chapter 87 Margaret Fawns Over William

The door swung open, revealing William standing outside.
Margaret's expression froze, looking puzzled. "Weren't you arrested? How did they let you out?"
William chuckled, "Mom, I haven't broken any laws, so they naturally let me go."
At the same time, Mary heard William Jones' voice and rushed over, embracing him tightly, tears streaming down her face.
William comforted her with a few words, "Alright, I'm fine. I'm out now."
In the living room, the family sat together.
Margaret and Tyler sat on the couch. Their eyes were sharp with anger, and they were staring at William with an interrogative look.
And sitting next to William Jones was an old man, none other than George Clark.
Margaret was glaring at George, looking displeased. "William, who is this old man? How could you bring strangers into my home so casually?"
Margaret didn't like the old man's attire. Despite his age, he was still dressed in a suit and holding a black hat she had never seen before, smiling all over his face.
He looked like a frivolous old man.
It's no wonder William was caught by the police for associating with such people.
William explained indifferently." Mom. He’s, my friend. I owe him for helping me get out this time."
He didn't specify what kind of friend.
If he told her that the man sitting before her was Lindwood City's Richest Man and also his butler, would Margaret go mad?
"I'm George Clark." George greeted, having learned beforehand that William's mother-in-law was a tough character, famously fierce and unreasonable. Seeing her today, she indeed lived up to her reputation.
"George Clark?"
It took Mary a moment to catch on. She looked carefully at the man around William and exclaimed, "Are you really George Clark, the director?"
"Mary, do you know this old man?" Margaret smirked, looking unimpressed.
"Mom, George Clark is the Lindwood City's Richest Man," Mary said excitedly.
William actually knew George!
"Lindwood City's Richest Man?"
"Lindwood City's Richest Man? Him?" Margaret sneered as she scrutinized George. "Mary, don't joke with me. Could William know such a wealthy person? Besides, not every George Clark is the Richest Man."
Margaret's ignorance of George was understandable. She didn't care much about business matters, always fussing over trivial things.
And in her eyes, could a useless man like William know such a wealthy person?
If he really did, she would be praying to him!
Faced with Margaret's mockery, George's face twitched, but he kept his temper in check.
Mary was getting anxious, constantly signaling to Margaret. However, Margaret intensified her mockery instead of heeding them.
"William, don't bring just anyone home in the future, or else don't bother coming through my door!"
Margaret expressed her dissatisfaction, her eyes full of sarcasm.
However, just at this moment, the TV was suddenly interrupted by a news broadcast.
"According to our latest information, Mr. George Clark, the richest man in our city and Chairman of Golden Age Group, has personally contributed ten billion dollars to build the largest police academy in our city, making a huge contribution to our city's stable development."
As the news broadcast continued, the entire living room fell silent!
Especially as the screen showed a photo and interview video of George!
Margaret's eyes bulged, staring intently at the Richest Man on the screen, then her gaze kept shifting back and forth to the old man sitting in front of her.
"Good heavens!"
Margaret was so startled that her whole body trembled, pointing at the TV." Are you really George Clark? The Richest Man, George?"
Margaret was collapsing!
What had she just done? What had she said?
She had been so foolish, truly foolish!
Such a wealthy person had actually come to sit in her house and she had been making sarcastic remarks all over the place.
"Mr. George, please don't misunderstand and don't mind me. I'm just a silly old woman, and all those words I say are nonsense. Don't take them to heart."
Margaret was in a panic, both excited and obsequious, as she got up, busily preparing coffee and fruit, wishing she could stuff everything tasty right into George's mouth.
George just smiled faintly, politely saying a few words, "There's no need for all this trouble. I just came to escort William and will be leaving shortly."
"You're welcome. Mr. George's visit to our home is our honor, and we're so lucky to have had that. Please eat these fruits I bought today. This coffee is top-quality coffee and I usually wouldn't even let my husband drink it."
Margaret's attitude had done a complete 180, becoming extremely attentive.
Even when Tyler tried to chime in and curry favor, she cut him off.
"Sit there and read your newspaper." Margaret snapped at Tyler, then turned her head. She stared at George with sparkling eyes as if he were a national treasure.
Mary felt helpless. Her mother's behavior was truly embarrassing.
One moment, she couldn't wait to shoo him away. The next, she couldn't take her eyes off him.
"Margaret, Mr. George is a busy man with many responsibilities," Mary said.
Margaret glared at Mary and said, "What do you know? Don't talk nonsense."
Then, she got up with a giggly smile and then stared at William. "Get up, move over there."
William had no choice but to get up.
Margaret plunked herself down next to George, her face full of flattery." Mr. George, how do you know William?"
She now started calling William affectionately, which was truly shameless.
Margaret, while wanting to flatter George, understood in her heart.
A useless man like William actually knew such a wealthy entrepreneur.
That would be like the sun rising from the west.
George chuckled, "I met William by chance. He helped me out once, so I'm returning the favor this time."
"A favor," Margaret muttered with a smile, glancing disapprovingly at William.
She had thought William was something special, but it turned out he was still a good-for-nothing.
What's so great about returning a favor to him?
If it were her, she'd demand a fortune for such a favor.
William was helpless and said nothing.
At this moment, George also stood up and shook hands with everyone." I apologize for the disturbance. Now that William is alright, I should take my leave. Thank you for your hospitality."
Margaret couldn't just watch the moneybag walk away, so she eagerly grabbed George's hand. "Mr. George, thank you for helping William. You must come to our home for a meal next time."
George smiled and exchanged a few pleasantries before he left.
Margaret personally saw him out of the gate and only when the Bentley drove away did, she return with a look of lingering excitement.
A Bentley!
That was a luxury car!
As soon as she entered the door, she excitedly shouted, "Tyler, we're going to be rich. That was George Clark. He has so much money and he's the Richest Man!"
Tyler gave her a cold look. "Aren't you just about to kick him out?"
Tyler was unhappy because such a wealthy and prestigious person had come to his home. He hadn't managed to get a word in, all thanks to his wife's blabbering.
Margaret rolled her eyes at him. She felt gleeful inside, up to something. When she saw William was still in the room, she changed her usual disdainful attitude towards him, put on a smiling face, and sat down next to him.
"William, don't blame me for treating you badly before. If you had told me earlier that you know George Clark, I would have treated you like my own son."
Margaret's shamelessness had truly reached a new level.
If William Jones had no money or power, she would insult and scold him in various ways.
Now that William knew George, she wanted to treat him like her own son.
Mary thought Margaret was going too far. Her mother was too opportunistic.
"Oh right, William. From now on, suck up to that George more often. It'll definitely benefit you." Margaret said, then asked, "What did you do for him last time?"
Margaret was most concerned about this. She was calculating whether she could get some money back.
William casually fabricated a lie, "Last time on the street, Mr. George had a sudden heart attack and I took him to the hospital."
"That's a big deal, doesn't he give you any money?" As soon as Margaret said this, her eyes were fixed on William.
Last time he had given her a hundred thousand dollars and it had turned into such a big joke.
Could the money come from George?
Definitely more than a hundred thousand dollars!
This guy must be hiding other money!
She must get it from him!
"Mom, what are you thinking? Do you know what kind of person William is? Could he ask for money from someone?" Mary said at that moment, her face turning cold.
Did her mother suspect William?
"You know nothing, shut up!" Margaret snapped at Mary, then scrutinized William.
"William, you call me 'mom' too. My daughter has married you and suffered for three years. Moreover, I have lost face because of you. That's why, you can't keep us in the dark. Tell me, how much does he give you?"
She was convinced that William had definitely received money.
William looked at Mary and sighed slightly, indicating he was at a loss.
Being targeted by Margaret was unlucky.
"One million dollars and the other nine hundred thousand was for Sarah's medical treatment." William could only say that, having previously told Mary about a card he had with a little over a million.
One million dollars!
Upon hearing this number, Margaret suddenly perked up and stared at William. She pulled out the mother-in-law's authority and coldly said, "Give me the card. I'll keep it safe for you."
