Chapter 146 Elbert's Engagement Party
Lori and the others watched William walking towards the red Ferrari, their eyes filled with even more disdain and contempt.
"Damn! What a poser!"
Lori cursed angrily, then stepped forward. She grabbed William who was taking out the car keys, and told him off. "Enough with the act! Do you want us to pretend to fawn all over you to make you feel better?"
William was really putting on a show. There was no way such a nice car could belong to him.
William frowned and said, "What act? This car is actually mine."
This statement immediately offended the four girls.
Amy's eyebrows arched in amusement as she said, mockingly, "Look at him. He's not dropping the act. I don't know what he's thinking, trying to act all rich. It's ridiculous."
The other two girls also gave William disdainful looks.
Lori laughed a few times, patted William on the shoulder, and said, "William, I know you're not doing well right now, but you don't have to show off like this."
With that, Lori swayed her hips disdainfully and walked away with her friends.
William stood there, and took out the Ferrari keys from his pocket, sighing helplessly.
Lori really turned her back on him.
He had helped her so much, and not only did he not get any gratitude, but he had been insulted again.
Well, he couldn't be bothered to explain matters to them.
William thought for a moment and decided to drive to Mary's company to surprise her.
It would be easy to explain how he got the car. He could say he won it in a bet. If Mary didn't believe him, he could ask Clarence to vouch for him.
However, as he was on his way there, William received an unexpected call from Elbert.
William felt guilty about as he hadn't been in touch with Elbert for a long time. He felt like a lousy friend.
When he answered the phone, Elbert's cheerful voice came through. "William, are you free tonight? Bring Mary over. Lisa and I are getting engaged, and we're having dinner tonight to celebrate."
From his voice, Elbert sounded very happy.
William frowned. Elbert was getting engaged to Lisa?
"Sure, where at?" William replied with a smile.
He didn't tell Elbert about Lisa's issues right away. Elbert was very emotional. If he knew what Lisa was up to, he might not be able to handle it.
However, William absolutely couldn't agree with their engagement. He had to find a way to make Elbert see Lisa's true colors.
"She booked the Polaris Sky Restaurant, she said it's upscale. Be there at 7pm sharp, and don't forget to bring Mary."
Elbert was exceptionally excited. He and Lisa had been in a relationship for four years, and today they were finally getting engaged.
"Alright," William replied, then hung up the phone and sat in the car, lost in thought.
He changed direction and went to the nearest gift shop. He had to bring a gift, after all, even if it was just to repay Elbert for all his help over the years. William had to get something decent.
He couldn't let Elbert down.
Meanwhile, in Elbert's rented apartment, just as he ended his call with William, Lisa walked in through the front door.
She was dressed in designer brands and carried the latest Gucci bag. She looked very sophisticated. Her long, fair legs crossed as she walked up to Elbert.
Lisa had heard Elbert on the phone from outside, and she looked upset. She asked, "Elbert, why did you invite William to our engagement party?"
She really didn't like William. William had embarrassed her at the BMW store.
Elbert felt conflicted. He didn't understand why Lisa disliked William so much. He smiled and said, "Lisa, William is my best friend. He's my only friend. It wouldn't be right not to invite him."
Lisa pouted, clearly unhappy, but she said, "Just this once. Don't do it again."
Lisa understood that it was a big event and she couldn't embarrass Elbert.
After chatting for a bit, Lisa received a phone call. Her face lit up with a sweet smile as she walked out to take it. "Mr. Lopez, what a surprise to hear from you today."
A smooth middle-aged male voice replied, "Lisa, are you free tonight? It's been a while since we've met. I miss you."
Lisa's beautiful eyebrows furrowed slightly. She glanced back at the dirty, shabby apartment with a look of barely concealed disgust, then quickly put on a smile and said, "Yes, I am. I'm having dinner with friends at the Polaris Sky Restaurant tonight. How about you wait for me at the hotel upstairs?"
"Alright," Mr. Lopez replied happily.
After hanging up, Lisa took out her makeup from her bag and carefully touched up her face. Then she called a cab to meet up with her girlfriends.
At 7pm at the Polaris Sky Restaurant, a group of young, attractive men and women gathered in a private room, chatting happily.
The girls were all quite pretty. They dressed fashionably and had fair skin and beautiful features.
Most notable was the girl sitting in the middle. She had lovely eyes, delicate features, and long legs clad in a mini skirt, causing the boys around her to steal glances now and then.
She was Lisa's sister, Helen.
Today was Lisa's engagement party, so of course, she had to come, and she dressed up extravagantly for the occasion, hoping to meet a few new guys.
"Lisa, how's your boyfriend? We haven't seen him much. What does his family do?"
Helen started the conversation, turning to look at Lisa, who was clearly distracted and fiddling with her phone.
Lisa smiled faintly and replied, "He's from an ordinary family, but he treats me well. I just want to get engaged first so Dad and Mom stop nagging me."
A hint of disappointment flashed in Helen's eyes. She had thought her future brother-in-law was a rich scion, but it turned out he was from an ordinary family.
Could it be that Lisa, who had always been so proud, now liked these honest types?
Meanwhile, Lisa was chatting with Mr. Lopez on Facebook, exchanging all sorts of explicit messages and setting up a meeting for 9pm.
Satisfied, she finally put down her phone and started chatting with the friends.
"Hey, let me show you something funny," she said. She pulled out her phone and opened a video she had recorded earlier, showing it to everyone.
The young crowd, always eager for gossip, perked up their ears at the mention of something funny.
"A few days ago, something happened here. You know Elbert has a good friend named William. Sis, you know him too. He's the one who wanted to buy a hundred Harley-Davidsons at your store," Lisa said, winking at Helen.
Helen immediately understood and said, "Oh, that William. Yeah, I know him."
She leaned back angrily in her chair with her arms crossed.
"What happened? Who's William?" their friends asked eagerly.
Lisa mysteriously created a small Facebook group and posted a video she had secretly recorded of William getting into a conflict at the Polaris Sky Restaurant, surrounded by dozens of people. She laughed mockingly, "This is William. His wife was harassed by some thugs, and he got into a fight with the restaurant manager. I don't know what happened next, but I heard from a friend that he got beaten up badly. In the end, his wife had to sleep with someone to settle it."
Lisa didn't spell it out, but everyone understood the implication: he survived by selling out his wife.
Lisa was clearly making things up, starting with a video and fabricating the rest.
Given the chance to humiliate William and his wife, Lisa couldn't resist. She had disliked William for a long time and disliked Mary even more.
Every woman felt jealousy, and Lisa didn't mind smearing Mary's reputation in such a setting, making her out to be as bad as possible. It was a satisfying thing to do.
Elbert was bringing William tonight, so she planned on giving him a surprise.
This was Lisa's revenge. She wanted to embarrass William in front of everyone.
After speaking, she also posted Mary's photo in the group.
Everyone was stunned.
The girls were jealous. Mary was a beautiful woman but was now tainted in their eyes.
The boys felt pity and regret, thinking it was a shame that such a beautiful woman had such a useless husband. How could a woman sleep with someone to save her husband?
"Damn! There are people like that?"
"Honestly, I kind of admire the guy for letting such a beautiful wife sleep with someone else."
"That guy is trash!"
"You don't know the half of it. He came to our Harley-Davidson store last time, saying he wanted to buy a hundred Harley-Davidsons. It was hilarious. I kicked him out immediately," Helen added.
"That's disgusting. How stupid can a guy be?"
"Enough, let's not talk about it. Your boyfriend Elbert should be here soon, right?" Helen smiled, "Didn't you say he was bringing some friends? Who are they? Any handsome or rich ones for me to meet?"
"Any hotties?"
The girls immediately started gossiping.
At that moment, Elbert pushed open the private room door and walked in, sitting down and affectionately putting his arm around Lisa, giving her a kiss on the cheek.
Lisa, however, pushed Elbert away and glared at him, "What are you doing? I just did my makeup."
Only Lisa would dare to embarrass Elbert in front of so many people.
The group looked on silently, knowing that Lisa probably didn't really like Elbert.
As soon as Elbert walked in, they sized him up and gave him a mental score of four out of ten, no higher. He was too ordinary.
Lisa was actually going to marry such a man?
Helen was also puzzled. What was wrong with Lisa? With such a brother-in-law, how could he have any rich friends?
"By the way," Lisa said, "didn't you say you brought a friend? Where is he?"
As she spoke, Lisa's lips curled into a cold smile.
She hadn't told everyone that Elbert's friend was the same William that they had just been discussing. She wanted to see their reactions when William walked in.
"He went to the restroom," Elbert explained.
Just then, William walked in.
"Let me introduce you all. This is my good buddy, William," Elbert said, standing up and smiling warmly.
