Chapter 361 I Am the Top Rich Person
The top dog of the branch family-Llewellyn Jones.
What the heck was he doing in Lindwood City?
This guy was a serious threat—brains, guts, connections, and smarts, all on par with Jessica.
Plus, he was super humble and knew how to win people over.
He was the only heir to the branch family.
Even Mario once said Llewellyn was the best thing to come out of the offshoots in a hundred years.
If he wasn't born into the branch family, he might've been the main family's heir.
William felt a sudden panic and blurted out, "Mary, I'm coming back right now!"
Llewellyn, what was his game?
Why was he looking for Mary?
No time to think, William grabbed a cab back to the hospital, sprinted to the ward, and saw Llewellyn chilling on the sofa, chatting it up with Mary.
The vibe was super chill, no tension at all.
"William," Mary called, waving at him with a sweet smile.
Llewellyn, with his back to William, put down the fruit knife and handed Mary a peeled apple.
Then, he stood up, turned to William with a gentle smile, and extended his hand, "William, long time no see."
Llewellyn was all charm and class, with sharp eyebrows, starry eyes, thin lips, and a high nose bridge, his eyes sparkling.
This guy's looks alone drew people in.
And because of that, Llewellyn had a ton of rich friends.
But William knew the real Llewellyn; you couldn't see his true nature on the surface.
When William was a kid, he got punished because of Llewellyn's schemes. He was locked up and made to recite family rules for three days.
From that day on, he knew Llewellyn had big ambitions!
The branch family wasn't enough for him; he wanted the whole Jones family.
To Llewellyn, the branch family was just a cage.
Why should he only be the branch family's heir while William could lead the whole family in the future?
"What are you here for?" William asked coldly, not hiding his bad attitude.
Llewellyn's hand lingered in the air, but he didn't seem embarrassed. He drew it back with a gentle smile and said, "Just here to see Mary. Is there anything you need?"
"You can leave now," William said coldly.
Mary, puzzled by William's attitude, chimed in, "William, what's up with you? Be nice."
William frowned, glanced at Mary, but stayed silent.
Llewellyn wasn't in a rush, smiled, and said, "It's fine. I'll chat with William outside for a bit."
With that, he smiled faintly and walked out of the ward first.
As William was about to follow, Mary reminded him, "William, be nice. He's your cousin. Don't be rude."
William grinned, "Got it."
He stepped out and saw Llewellyn with his hands in his pockets, looking out the window in the rest area.
Standing about 10 feet apart, Llewellyn spoke first, a clear smile in his eyes, "Mary's really beautiful and graceful. When you bringing her home?"
"None of your business," William said, a chill in his eyes.
Llewellyn chuckled, "William, don't be so hostile. We're brothers. Isn't it better for the main family and the branch family to get along and lead the Jones family together?"
"Get along?" William repeated, laughing.
His eyes full of disdain, he said, "Llewellyn, I knew what kind of person you were since I was six. You used dirty tricks, leveraging the Hall of Justice and some elders from the offshoots, to frame me over a toy my dad bought me. You think we can get along?"
'Llewellyn, no matter how hard you try to act decent, you can't conceal the darkness in your heart,' William thought.
Llewellyn raised an eyebrow, his expression finally changing. The warmth in his eyes turned cold as he smiled, "William, you always hate me, but I really want to get along with you."
William rolled his eyes.
He stayed silent and said, "Got something to say? If not, you better leave. This isn't your place."
That sentence made it clear William wasn't happy.
Llewellyn caught the vibe too. He laughed and said, "I was planning to visit my little niece."
Upon hearing this, William frowned, and the fury within him finally erupted. He stepped forward, grabbed Llewellyn by the collar, and snarled, "Llewellyn! I'm warning you, don't play any tricks. Everything you have now is just from the branch family! But I am the heir to the main family, always above you! I'm no longer the kid you could push around!"
The air turned icy.
Llewellyn's bodyguards looked ready to jump in!
"Back off!" William barked, glaring at the bodyguards, who froze, not daring to move.
William scoffed, "Look at your bodyguards. Do they dare touch me? Everything you have, including the branch family's stuff, is given by the main family. Know your place!"
With that, he let go of Llewellyn's collar.
Llewellyn's face turned red with anger, and he sneered, "William, after seven years, you've grown a lot. You're no longer that silent, cowardly boy. Very good, things will be more interesting this way."
"Llewellyn, don't try to mess with me, or you'll regret it!" William warned, then turned and left.
Llewellyn stood there, watching William's back, his anger boiling inside.
Llewellyn cursed inwardly, 'Damn it! He actually becomes so formidable!'
A bodyguard beside him reminded, "Sir, we should go back. We don't have much time left."
"I know," Llewellyn said, his mouth curling into a sinister smile. "Before I leave, I want to give William a big gift!"
With that, he turned and left the hospital.
William returned to the ward, gently pushed open the door, and found Mary waiting for him.
"Not resting yet?" William asked, walking in with a sheepish smile, feeling a bit awkward.
Mary stared at him intently and asked, "William, don't you think you owe me an explanation?"
William was troubled, thinking, 'How should I explain?'
"Actually, it's nothing much, just that I have a lot of relatives, it used to be a big family with many branches," William said casually, his expression so tense that it didn't seem genuine at all.
Mary saw through it immediately, her lips curling up as she asked, "Really?"
William nodded nervously, saying, "Yes, if you don't believe me, I can take you back to see for yourself."
"Sure, when, where, how many people are in your family, and who are your relatives?"
Mary bombarded him with questions, leaving William helpless.
"Actually, my family..."
William knew he couldn't hide it any longer and was about to speak when Margaret suddenly burst in, carrying a pot of soup and smiling broadly. "Hey Mary, I made some chicken soup for you. Enjoy it while it's hot. William's here too. That's great. You both to have some together."
Margaret was very attentive, bustling around to serve Mary and William two bowls.
"Drink up. I made this chicken soup myself. It's been simmering all day," Margaret said, looking at William with a smile, as if she were treating her own son.
William felt flattered.
After William and Mary finished drinking, Margaret sat down beside them with a smile and asked, "Mary, I heard that Crescent Investment Group is coming to invest in your company. How much are they investing, and how much can we earn?"
As expected, old habits died hard.
Margaret still loved money. Although she had been more well-behaved recently, she still had her little schemes.
Despite everything, they were family, so William decided to let go of the past incident.
After all, Margaret was Mary's mother.
Mary said softly, "I don't know yet. We're currently negotiating the cooperation, and the specifics will be decided in a few days."
Margaret was visibly disappointed upon hearing this. She pulled Mary closer and asked, "Do you know who the general manager of Crescent Investment Group is? I heard from people outside that he's a top-tier wealthy man. And he's very young."
His personal assets were in the hundreds of billions.
If Mary was with him, Margaret would enjoy a life of luxury in the future.
This way, she wouldn't have to endure so much now, and wouldn't have to look at William, that wretch.
"Mom, what are you trying to do?" Mary seemed to catch on.
"Oh, take it easy. I'm just concerned about you. Who is the general manager?" Margaret asked anxiously, her face full of eagerness.
William sat beside them, a faint smile on his lips. What would Margaret's reaction be if she knew the top-tier wealthy man she wanted to cozy up to was him?
So, William touched his nose and said, "Mom, Mary, actually, the general manager of Crescent Investment Group is..."
