Chapter 209 He Had Bought a Villa?
Everyone was a bit confused.
Some fancy Mercedes had pulled up to pick them up. Had William really bought a villa?
"Holy crap! Those are Eagle family cars! Look at the Golden Eagle emblem!" Ivan, Yancy's son, shouted.
Ivan wasn't rich, but he dressed well in name-brand clothes and had the latest phone. He knew the Golden Eagle emblem was unique to the Eagle family in Lindwood City. No one else would dare use it.
He'd seen a car with that emblem at a bar before, belonging to the Eagle family's heir. Now, seeing it here, he was excited and curious. Why was the Eagle family's car at Tyler's house to pick them up?
"What? Eagle family cars? That Eagle Group?" Hazel and Delia were stunned, eyes wide, hesitant to get in. Could they even sit in such a car?
Nancy was also surprised, blinking in disbelief. Everyone turned to Margaret.
"Margaret, what's going on?" Hazel asked quietly, tugging Margaret's arm.
Were these the cars William arranged to take them to see the villa? It seemed too impressive. The Eagle family was a big deal.
Margaret frowned, not expecting William to get such fancy cars. "Ivan, are you sure these are Eagle family cars?" she asked, uneasy.
"Yes, definitely!" Ivan confirmed, excitedly taking pictures to post on Facebook. "My friends are going to be so jealous!"
Everyone exchanged puzzled looks. Dorothy was furious. She recognized the Eagle family cars, having ridden in one before. What was going on? Did William really get the Eagle family cars to pick them up? Had he actually bought a villa in the upscale area?
"Margaret, did William really buy a villa in the upscale area? I heard only people who buy villas there get this kind of service," Hazel asked, eyes full of envy and jealousy.
Margaret thought for a moment, glanced at the equally confused Tyler, and then smiled. "Impossible. Maybe William knew you were coming and rented the Eagle family cars to show off. He must have spent a lot. We'll know when we get there. Help me humiliate him and make Mary divorce him."
Everyone felt relieved. If Margaret was sure William couldn't afford a villa, then he couldn't. They looked down on William even more. How much has he spent to get the Eagle family to send cars? Wasn't he supposed to be broke? Where had he gotten the money?
"Hey, don't you know? Mary became the company's chairman. Didn't some heir from the Jones Group invest in her company recently? I think William used that money to show off," Dorothy said mockingly.
Terry and Anna were anxious, giving Dorothy looks. They wouldn't have believed it before, but after last night, they knew William could afford it. Not just the Eagle family, but probably no one in Lindwood City was richer than William. But they stayed quiet, just watching.
Terry shook his head, hoping these people wouldn't be too shocked by William's true identity.
"Yeah, I think so too. Margaret, you better keep an eye on Mary. William might have bad intentions. If he embezzles that money and runs, your family will be in trouble."
"Exactly, this useless guy is just putting on a big show to confuse us!"
Margaret's expression darkened, feeling very displeased. That was a billion-dollar investment, and she couldn't let William get his hands on it. That was Mary's company's money, and what was Mary's belonged to her!
"I know William is useless. He won't get a penny from my family," Margaret said through gritted teeth.
Everyone nervously got into the cars, eager to see what kind of trick William was pulling.
"Are we really going to the upscale residential area? I heard it's as luxurious as a palace!" a few women chattered inside the car.
Hazel, always petty, kept talking to Margaret. "Margaret, I think William has been brainwashing Mary. You better keep an eye on her; don't let him fool her."
"Yeah, be careful. I saw on the news yesterday that a man tricked a woman's family, took all their assets, and then kept a mistress and had a child outside. William might do the same," Delia chimed in, full of gossip and mockery.
Margaret felt a headache coming on. Sitting in the limo, she was uncomfortable, like sitting on pins and needles. She called Mary, scolding, "Mary, who manages the household expenses, you or William?"
Mary, just leaving the company, was confused. "Mom, why are you asking this out of nowhere?"
"Just tell me, who manages the finances?" Margaret demanded.
"Of course, it's me. William gave me his salary card and another one, which should have..." Mary trailed off, unsure how much money was in the card. She hadn't checked since she ran into Lori.
Margaret felt relieved. "Mary, don't let a man control the family's finances. You must hold on to it yourself! Men become unfaithful when they have money! And about the company investment, don't listen to William, understand?" She rambled on before hanging up.
"What did she say?" Hazel asked.
"Mary is managing everything," Margaret smiled.
"That's good, but don't let your guard down. William looks sneaky. I don't think he's a solid guy," Hazel cursed with a pout.
While they discussed William and the villa, the car headed towards the upscale residential area. This was the only road.
"Look, look, those villas are so luxurious!" Delia exclaimed, eyes full of envy and excitement.
Dorothy loudly asked the driver, "Hey, sir, did you take a wrong turn? Why are we heading to the upscale residential area?"
"Oh, ma'am, this is our destination," the driver replied.
Everyone in the car was dumbfounded. They were really going to the upscale residential area. Did William really buy a villa there? They exchanged doubtful glances, eyes full of confusion.
When the four Mercedes cars stopped at the entrance of the upscale residential area, the group got out, stunned by the luxurious scenery. They were both excited and nervous. The upscale residential area—the most luxurious villa area in Lindwood City, a famous wealthy district! The cheapest villa here started at thirty million!
They couldn't believe they were standing on this prime real estate.
"Margaret, did William really buy a villa here?" Hazel and the others asked, reaching the inner gate but too afraid to move around, worried about offending the Eagle family.
