Chapter 386 News About Ellie
William bolted around the corner, but there was no one in sight.
He looked everywhere like a madman, but that woman just disappeared into thin air.
What the hell?
Was it Ellie?
William grabbed his hair, totally baffled.
'What the heck is going on?' he thought.
Out of nowhere, a voice chimed in. "Hey, already finished? You didn't last very long, did it?"
Harper popped up, throwing some shade.
But then she noticed something was off with William and asked, "What's up?"
William coughed, forced a grin, and scratched his nose. "Nothing, Scarlett was just super hyped."
"Watch it, or I'll spill the beans to Mary!" Harper shot back, giving him a dirty look.
"I got her home safe. If that's all, I'm out," she added, eyeing him suspiciously.
She turned back to William, "Seriously, nothing? You seem kinda out of it."
William chuckled, "Nah, it's cool. Oh, and keep my identity on the down-low from Mary, okay?"
Harper frowned. She didn't get why William was asking, but she had no reason to say no.
So, she nodded, "Got it."
With that, they left the hotel and went their separate ways.
Just half an hour earlier, in a gym of Imperial City, a man in tight workout gear was cranking out pull-ups. His ripped body screamed fitness junkie, but he wasn't a hulking beast; his muscles were lean and defined. He had that rugged, tall, and slender look.
He was a hit in the gym, especially with the ladies.
He was happy to flirt with young girls, but when any of they tried to take them relationship to the next level, he gently turned them down.
Next to him, a woman in black tight-fitting clothes was doing stretches with a yoga ball.
She had short, shoulder-length hair, a sharp look, and a lean face with expressive features. Her eyes had this hidden spark.
The only weird thing? She had a dagger strapped to her waist.
Beside her stood a guy in a black tank top, muscles bulging, arms crossed, exuding an aura of aloofness and unapproachability.
A voice suddenly asked, "Torin, did my grandpa send Scarlett to Lindwood City?"
The ruggedly handsome guy finished his pull-ups, jumped down, and wiped his hands with a towel, smiling.
"Yeah, Sir," the muscular man named Torin said, his voice deep.
The handsome guy said, "Well, my sis just got back from abroad and doesn't know much around here. She's always been close to me since we were kids. I'm worried she might get pushed around there."
He was Balthazar Ashford, the second son of the Ashford family in the city, and Scarlett's brother.
"Scarlett's safe in Lindwood City. If you're worried, you can send someone to protect her," Torin said in his deep voice.
"Alright."
Balthazar sat down, wiped his face with a towel, and asked, "I heard the Henderson family pissed someone off and got kicked out?"
"Yeah, recently some guy crippled Archibald. It's said the whole Henderson family got exiled to some wasteland to reclaim land," Torin answered, his eyes cold.
Balthazar chuckled. "Archibald's always been a jerk. He had it coming. Do you know who did it?"
Torin nodded, "We found out. The guy's name is William Jones, married to Mary, the chairman of BK Pharmaceuticals in Lindwood City. He's supposed to be a live-in son-in-law with no background or connections, but it looks like the Henderson family fell because of him. The real reason is only known to Emrys. Here are his details."
Balthazar took the info, skimmed through it, and was shocked, his eyes lighting up with excitement.
It was him!
Balthazar didn't say anything, chugged half a bottle of water, and with a playful glint in his eye, smiled, "Alright, I know who it is now."
'I didn't expect that after all these years, you'd end up in Lindwood City. No wonder Emrys sent Scarlett there,' Balthazar thought.
"Torin, get a team together and set up shop in Lindwood City. Keep tabs on William and BK Pharmaceuticals," Balthazar ordered, then left the gym.
'William, you're finally back! Can't wait to see you again!' Balthazar thought, buzzing with excitement.
Meanwhile, William got back to the villa and saw Margaret in the living room, with Mary beside her, looking helpless and giving him a pleading look.
"William, you're back?" Margaret said, all high and mighty.
She coldly added, "Perfect timing, Mary's here too. You need to put my name back on the deed, or else don't come back. I'll take Mary and move out."
William sat down, glanced at the property deed on the coffee table, then at Mary.
"William, just add it. I'll make my mom apologize to you. She knows she messed up," Mary said, clearly dragged into this by Margaret.
But Margaret's attitude was anything but apologetic.
"Knows she messed up?" William sneered, eyeing Margaret.
'Does she look like someone who knows she messed up? Who's she trying to fool?' William thought.
Margaret felt a bit panicked inside. She was just trying to put on a show for William.
But who knew, William didn't care anymore.
"Mom, just apologize," Mary said, nudging Margaret to apologize.
Margaret, still trying to keep her pride, struggled but finally gave in for the sake of the villa.
"Well, William, I'm sorry. I know I was wrong," she said, but it was clear she didn't mean it.
William sneered and went upstairs without responding.
Mary glanced at Margaret and quickly followed him.
William first checked on Sarah. She was asleep, looking sweet and peaceful, hugging a toy.
Then he went to the bedroom with Mary.
William felt exhausted, especially after the encounter at the hotel with the woman who looked so much like Ellie. It felt like she was trying to tell him something.
'Why do they look so alike? Is it really Ellie?' William wondered.
Mary had changed into loose pajamas, walked over, sat on the bed, and massaged William's shoulders, softly saying, "William, what's wrong? You looked off as soon as you got back. Have you been too tired lately?"
William lay on the bed, then suddenly turned over and hugged Mary, feeling her warmth and softness. "Mary, if one day I have to leave because of something and can't be with you and Sarah, what would you do?"
Mary didn't expect William to say this. She stroked his head and said with a smile, "If one day you're not here, I will wait for you forever with kids, whether it's ten years, twenty years, or a lifetime, I'll wait for you."
William felt Mary's deep love and said with a smile, "Thank you."
They hugged for a while before William let go. Mary then asked, "William, what do you think about my mom's situation?"
She had no choice. If she didn't handle it, Margaret would definitely keep bothering her.
William smiled and said, "I understand. I'll add it tomorrow."
Mary smiled, tucked a strand of hair behind her ear, and lowered her voice, feeling a bit ashamed. "William, I know you've put up with a lot because of me and my mom. Thank you. Sometimes, I'm really at a loss when it comes to choosing between you and my mom. "
As she spoke, she started to cry, her eyes turning red.
She was a daughter, a wife, and a mother.
It was hard for her to make difficult decisions.
William reached out, wiped away her tears, and gently said, "I know. It's okay."
A few minutes later, he suddenly got a call from Benjamin.
He kissed Mary and then walked out of the bedroom to the small garden of the villa.
"What's up?" William asked.
"Sir, we've found information about Ellie," Benjamin said steadily.
