Chapter 49 The Power Behind

"Francis, stop calling me for every little thing, expecting me to clean up your mess! Don't you realize the gravity of the situation? Your actions could ruin me!" The voice on the other end of the line was filled with frustration and impatience.
However, despite the scolding, Francis, a man of considerable wealth, remained calm and obsequious. "Rex, I need your help."
Rex Armstrong was Francis's influential ally in Lindwood City. Francis owed much of his success to Rex's support and connections. However, this support came at a price, with substantial annual tributes being a regular part of their arrangement.
During this particular period, Rex had emphasized that no issue was too small to bring to his attention. Now, he impatiently rose from his bed, put on his reading glasses, and asked, "What is it?"
Rex knew that Francis wouldn't disturb him at such a late hour if it wasn't urgent.
"Rex, our company is in trouble. A young man named William is trying to buy us out, and if we refuse, he'll bankrupt us," Francis explained, his voice tinged with anxiety.
"Francis, you woke me up for this? Have you lost your mind? Deal with it yourself!" Rex's anger flared. He couldn't understand why Francis was making such a fuss.
'What's going on with you, Francis? Have you gone senile?' he thought to himself. 'Who is this William? Bankruptcy? Ridiculous!'
"Please, Rex, I can't handle this on my own," Francis pleaded.
Seeing Francis's hesitation, Rex furrowed his brow, put on his coat, and walked to the study before asking, "Who is this person that you can't handle?"
"Rex, do you know about the Victory Grand Hotel Group?" Francis inquired.
"Isn't that the hotel group you invested in, with a market value of 200 billion dollars? What about it?" Rex replied.
" William bought all the shares, for 200 billion dollars!" Francis exclaimed.
Bought? 200 billion? Rex suddenly realized the severity of the situation.
"Why would he want to buy your company? Did you offend him?" Rex instantly understood the situation. It was clear that this was a vendetta.
Francis hesitated. "I'm not sure, but it seems that Adam and the other party had a conflict."
"Then you should go and find out. Apologize if necessary. Can we afford to provoke someone like him? Fool!" Rex cursed and hung up the phone.
Afterward, he stood by the window, smoking, unable to calm down for a long time.
Then he dialed his secretary's number and said, "Check if there is a person named William in Lindwood City, as soon as possible."
Meanwhile, Francis didn't waste any time. He put on his clothes and left the hotel, heading straight for the Victory Grand Hotel in a luxury car.
At the same time, Adam was confronting William and his group, taunting. "William, if you kneel down, bow to me, and call me 'sir,' I'll let you go today. But if you persist, sorry, I don't have time to waste on you!"
Adam had lost his patience. He still had to meet the mysterious businessman who bought a hundred BMW motorcycles.
He didn't have time to waste on this idiot.
However, William calmly looked at him and said, "What's the rush? Your father should be on his way."
"My dad? Are you kidding me? Would my dad come for a loser like you? What, do you want to say that my dad will come and apologize to you?" Adam sneered. "Do you think this is a TV drama or something, where my dad comes, bows to you, and then begs for your forgiveness? Wake up, William! Stop fooling around!"
William didn't answer, he just looked on indifferently.
It was at that moment that a Mercedes-Benz quickly pulled up at the hotel entrance. A middle-aged man got out of the car in a hurry.
He was dressed in a black shirt and white suit pants, wearing gold-rimmed glasses, with a briefcase in his hand. His forehead was covered in a cold sweat.
"Dad, why are you here?"
Adam was taken aback when he saw the man, and his heart skipped a beat.
As soon as Francis entered, he glared at Adam, and then, without paying attention to anyone else, he hurriedly walked up to William, bowed and smiled. "William, I'm sorry to keep you waiting."
This scene truly frightened Adam, Jesse, and the others.
This was Francis, the director of the Lindwood City Victory Grand Hotel!
And now, he was actually bowing and scraping to a young man, his face full of remorse.
This was simply too shocking, especially for Adam, who was dumbfounded.
How could this be?
William just nodded, looked at the time, and said calmly, "You still have twenty minutes, Mr. King. What do you think?"
Francis naturally couldn't agree and said with a smile, "William, you're really joking. My companies are all small businesses, they've been losing money for years, selling them to you would be a rip-off."
As soon as he finished speaking, Adam rushed up in a rage and shouted, "Dad, what are you doing? How can you be so polite to this idiot? Who is this guy? He's just a loser who delivers takeout! Are you mistaken?"
A crisp slap rang out.
Francis's eyes widened, his face turned red, and he angrily pointed at Adam. "Shut up! Get lost!"
It was all his fault, he had spoiled him too much, and it had fostered his son's arrogant attitude.
"Dad, are you crazy? Why did you hit me?"
Adam felt extremely wronged, turned his head and glared at William, and shouted, "What the hell do you do? Who do you think you are to make my dad talk to you like that?"
William remained silent.
Francis gave him another slap and cursed. "Adam, shut up! How dare you talk to William like that? Do you know that the ground you're standing on right now belongs to William? The Victory Grand Hotel Group is now owned by William, so you'd better apologize to him!"
Adam was dumbfounded.
The Victory Grand Hotel Group really belonged to William?
What on earth was going on?
"Sorry, William, I have failed to educate him, and he has offended you. How would you like to handle this?" Francis knew that his attitude today would determine his future.
William looked at Adam, who seemed lost and distracted, and said, "It's okay, your son and I were classmates."
Classmates?
Francis was surprised and quickly smiled. "It's a great honor for Adam to be classmates with you."
The flattering words and the sycophantic tone made Adam very uncomfortable.
Impossible! Absolutely impossible!
William was just a loser, how could he have the money to buy the Victory Grand Hotel Group?
He didn't believe it!
In college, he was overshadowed by William. Now, he was being overshadowed by William again.
He couldn't accept it!
"Adam, do you remember what I just said to you? Life is long, and you never know who will become successful one day," William said with a faint smile.
Adam panicked, his steps faltering. He kept retreating, and he fell to the ground, pointing at William and shouting. "Impossible! You're just a loser, you can't compare to me, William!"
William couldn't be bothered with him. He knew that Adam was feeling extremely unbalanced at the moment. His sense of superiority, which he thought was unshakable, had instantly turned into nothing, and it was a tough pill to swallow.
Turning his head, William looked at Francis and said, "Mr. King, you still have eight minutes, have you made up your mind?"
Francis's mouth twitched. He forced out a smile and didn't dare to wipe the sweat from his forehead. "William, you're going too far, aren't you? How about this, I'll let Adam apologize to you."
"Apologize to William!" Francis angrily said to the distracted Adam.
Adam, in a daze, was pulled by Francis to apologize to William.
But William said, "Mr. King, I'm sorry, your son said earlier that if I could buy the Victory Grand Hotel, he would kneel down and bow to me."
Francis's mouth twitched, a hint of coldness in his eyes. He forced a smile and said, "William, there's no need to take it so far, right? Even if Adam did something wrong, there's no need to humiliate him in front of so many people."
"Oh, but there is a reason for that. If I didn't have the capital today, or if I didn't have the money and power, Adam would definitely make me kneel down and bow to him," William said. "Do poor people deserve to be bullied? Do rich people have the right to insult and humiliate others at will? Who gave you the right? Is it money?
"Alright, today I have more money than you, so now you all need to kneel down and apologize to me!"
William said a lot in one breath, hitting a nerve in everyone's heart.
The ordinary people present had encountered this kind of frustration. Being trampled and humiliated by the rich at will, they dared not resist. Now, William can vent their anger for them, and naturally, they felt very happy in their hearts.
"Yes! William is right! Kneel down and apologize!"
"Damn! Adam has been bullying us security guards all the time, treating us like dogs. He deserves to be taught a lesson!"
"Hurry up and kneel!"
For a moment, the crowd was in an uproar!
Everyone was pointing at Adam, which made him feel very overwhelmed and frightened.
"Dad, save me, I don't want to kneel!" Adam pulled his father's arm and hid behind him.
Francis's face darkened, and he said to William, "Mr. Jones, do you truly intend to take such extreme measures? Will there be no room for leniency? Please consider your actions carefully. I am not one to be trifled with. I have influential connections. You are tangling with forces beyond your reckoning!"
Francis doted on his son very much. He wouldn't let his son kneel and apologize to outsiders in front of so many people.
William smiled and said, "Well, I'm really looking forward to it. Who is it that I can't afford to mess with?"
