Chapter 231 Never Learn

William fell silent for a moment, glanced at Mary, and said, "Do you really want to know?"

Mary nodded and said, "Yes."

William nodded, and then said very seriously, "Mary, actually, I'm a wealthy heir."

Mary listened and said, "I know that. Your family owns a restaurant, and you bought the villa."

William frowned and continued to explain, "No, maybe what I mean is different from what you think. I mean, I'm an extremely wealthy man."

"How so?" Mary asked as she took a bite of her snack, squinted her eyes, which looked very beautiful, like crescent moons, and smiled gently.

"Do you know the Jones Group?" William asked.

Mary nodded and said, "Yes, didn't I attend that banquet last time? Unfortunately, I didn't get to meet Mr. Jones."

William smiled and said, "Mr. Jones is actually sitting right in front of you."

"You?" Mary was stunned and looked at William suspiciously. After a while, she reached out her hand to touch William's forehead, then touched her own forehead, pouted her pink lips and muttered, "No fever."

William was helpless and tried hard to explain, "Mary, I really am Mr. Jones. You have to believe me."

Mary rolled her eyes at him, picked up her bag, stood up, and pulled William, saying, "Alright, alright, I believe you. Let's go. It's getting late."

William lowered his head helplessly; she still didn't believe him.

Oh well.

Since Mary had already accepted the fact that he was a rich heir, that was good enough.

Although Mary hadn't guessed his true identity, there would be plenty of opportunities.

Slowly, she would know one day.

The next day, Margaret got bored in the villa.

These days, she had been very well-behaved and had moved out of the master bedroom.

There was no choice; now William was at the peak of his power, and she didn't dare to act recklessly.

Margaret remarked, "Tyler, what kind of man is William? How could he endure so much in our family these past few years? If it weren't for what happened last time, I wouldn't have known he was so powerful. And that woman who slapped me last time turned out to be William's stepmom!"

Margaret sat on the sofa, chatting with Tyler, who was reading the newspaper.

Thinking of Jessica, Margaret couldn't help but shiver.

Jessica was too strong.

With such a relative, William's family must be extraordinary.

William had hidden it from her for so long.

Margaret had just been well-behaved for a few days and was starting to come up with bad ideas again.

"Oh, what are you thinking about all day? If you're worried, just go apologize to William yourself. Stop overthinking," Tyler said, impatiently flipping through the newspaper.

Just then, William came back. As soon as he entered the villa, Margaret enthusiastically got up, made a cup of coffee, and handed it to William with a flattering smile, saying, "William, you're back. Have some coffee."

William was also a bit stunned. Margaret suddenly being so nice to him was really a bit unusual.

William refused, "No need. I'm just grabbing something and leaving."

William smiled slightly and went upstairs.

Margaret stood obsequiously downstairs, watching William's back. When he entered the master bedroom, her smile turned cold, and she muttered with a glare, "What's that attitude?"

Tyler shook his head helplessly; Margaret really hadn't learned her lesson.

Seeing Tyler shake his head, Margaret put the coffee in front of him angrily and said, "Here."

After a while, William came downstairs. Margaret hurriedly asked, "William, where are you going?"

"To help Mary shop," William replied, not even turning his head as he walked out the door.

Margaret watched William's departing figure, feeling very uncomfortable.

In the past, if William had this attitude, she would have slapped him already. Now she didn't dare for real.

Margaret complained, "No, no. Look at William, what that attitude? Do I even have a say in this house?"

Margaret sat on the sofa very unhappily, feeling very uncomfortable.

William was arrogant because the villa had his name on it and because he was related to Jessica.

But he was still afraid of Mary.

Yes, Mary!

Margaret thought she could definitely grasp William's weakness this time.

William picked up Mary outside her company, and the two of them, like teenage love birds, chatted and laughed as they arrived at the largest jewelry store in Lindwood City.

Next month was Mary's birthday, and this year, he wanted to buy her a decent gift.

As soon as they walked in, they noticed that the store was quite crowded, with more than a dozen staff members all in uniform black attire.

No wonder it was the largest jewelry store in Lindwood City; it was very impressive.

"Sir, may I help you?" a female staff member named Anouk approached them with a standard smile and a bow.

"Oh, I'd like to look at necklaces here," William said.

Mary, holding his arm, seemed to have spotted something and ran over to the display case, looking at the shiny jewelry with great delight.

William also glanced around; the store had all the big brands, with gold, silver, diamonds, and gemstones, all in abundance.

Each piece was not at an ordinary price.

Anouk was no ordinary staff either; in her line of work, she had a keen eye for people.

This was a young couple; although the man didn't look like much, the woman was very beautiful and had a lot of charm.

Anouk complimented, "Sir, are you buying a gift for your wife? Your wife is very beautiful; you have great taste to find such a lovely wife."

Anouk's sweet words were full of praise.

William smiled; it felt good to be complimented. He replied, "Yes, it's a birthday gift for my wife. Do you have anything nice?"

Anouk suggested, "Yes, take a look at this necklace. It's a new arrival, very suitable for your wife. It will make her look very elegant. It's a 2-carat pink diamond, and the pink diamond was cut by a great master. There are very few pieces on the market with such luster."

Anouk took out a necklace from the display case and introduced it.

Mary also liked it and couldn't wait to try it on.

"How is it? Does it look good?" Mary asked William, looking in the mirror and turning around.

William glanced at it; the platinum necklace with the sparkling diamond against Mary's fair neck was very dazzling, like a swan.

"It looks great. Let's buy this one," William said, turning to Anouk, "How much? I'll pay by card."

Anouk was overjoyed; she hadn't expected this ordinarily dressed man to be so wealthy and generous.

"Sir, it's $289,999. I'll wrap it up for you," Anouk said with a smile, barely able to contain her excitement.

So extravagant!

Nearly $290,000!

For just a necklace!

This situation naturally caused quite a stir.

Somebody remarked, "Wow, that guy looks so normal, but he bought that necklace."

Someone mentioned, "I looked at that necklace earlier, too; it's really nice, but it's too expensive, $290,000!"

Another said, "Honey, look how well he treats his wife. I want that necklace, too."

Many women were very envious of Mary at this moment and were curious about William.

This man was so rich! To make his wife happy, he spent $290,000 just like that.

Mary, hearing the price, was stunned and quickly returned the necklace, smiling apologetically, and said, "Sorry, no need. I don't think it suits me."

She didn't want to waste money like that. Although William had brought her to buy a birthday gift, a $290,000 necklace was too expensive.

A cheaper one would do.

William knew what Mary was thinking and smiled at her, saying, "I think it suits you very well. Don't worry about the money; I have plenty. This is my gift to you. How can money compare to you? I will give you many more gifts in the future, so you'll stay with me for life."

Many women were moved by William's words, and even started to resent their own husbands or boyfriends.

Someone commented, "Look at how he treats his wife. Spending some money to make her happy, as if it's no big deal."

However, at this touching moment, a discordant voice came from the door. Louis mocked, "Wow, it's you, the pauper. Can you afford that necklace?"

Louis stepped in from the door, laughing, with a young girl of about seventeen years old by his side, who was dressed very stylishly in a crop top, short shorts, a ponytail, and a small ring on her navel.

Everyone looked towards the store entrance.

Anouk, who was still introducing products to William, immediately bowed respectfully when she saw the man at the door and said, "Mr. Ramirez, you're here."

Following that, all the staff in the store faced the door and respectfully called out, "Mr. Ramirez."

Louis was very pleased, holding the woman beside him, proudly looking at William.

"Coming to my store for jewelry? Can you afford it?" Louis said, his tone was very mocking.
