Chapter 403 I'm Here to See Mr. Jones
"You want me to get on my knees and say sorry?" Inigo shot back, his voice rising, and gave William a mocking grin.
He jabbed William's chest with his finger, "William, you lost your mind or something? Who do you think you are?"
William's lips curled into a cold smirk, "You'll see soon enough."
Everyone in the room was stunned, totally clueless about what he meant.
Margaret jumped up, pointing at William, and started laying into him, "William, haven't you embarrassed us enough? It's a curse having you as my son-in-law! Get out! Right now!"
She was fuming. She'd finally managed to save face in front of her relatives, and now William had blown it.
Luckily, William had signed an agreement with her. Otherwise, she wouldn't have any control over him.
With Margaret's ranting, the other relatives joined in, mocking William one after another.
Inigo sneered, patted William on the shoulder, and said, "What are you talking about? Did you magically fix our company's ten million dollar shortfall?"
Mary eyed William suspiciously when her phone rang.
"It's Mr. Kingsley," Mary said.
Everyone immediately stopped mocking William and crowded around.
"Answer it," Solon said.
Alexis muttered, "Please, let it be good news."
Mary answered the call and put it on speaker, "Mr. Kingsley, how did it go?"
Lucius laughed on the other end, "Ms. Smith, congrats! Mr. Jones agreed. A hundred million dollar investment is on its way to your account."
He actually agreed!
"Thank you. Dinner's on me next time," Mary said, excitement bubbling up. She hadn't expected Crescent Investment Group agreed to invest, especially with such a massive sum as a hundred million dollars.
Solon, Chloe, and Inigo were all stunned, staring at Mary in disbelief.
"A hundred million dollars? They're investing a hundred million dollars?" Chloe asked, gulping. She quickly sat down, her arrogance gone, and stared at Mary, "Mary, is Mr. Kingsley joking? We only needed ten million dollars, and they're giving us a hundred million?"
Chloe knew exactly what a hundred million dollar investment meant for her company.
With that kind of money, she could expand their market and boost profits to at least three hundred million dollars!
Right now, her company's annual profit was just a few million.
Chloe was confident she could triple the profit with a hundred million dollars of funding.
She couldn't help but think, 'Oh my God, this is insane! Who is this Mr. Jones? So generous!'
Mary was also shocked, not expecting Mr. Jones to decide so quickly.
She glanced at William standing by the door. Was William Mr. Jones?
Otherwise, why would they both share the last name Jones?
And William had just said those words.
While everyone was buzzing, Chloe got a call, her voice rising, "What? A hundred million dollars has been transferred?"
Chloe was completely floored. She could hardly believe it, but the finance department confirmed that Crescent Investment Group had just transferred a hundred million dollars.
Chloe turned around, hugged Mary, and said, "Mary, thank you so much. How about I treat everyone to dinner tonight?"
The whole family chimed in, "Yeah. This's a good idea. Let's celebrate."
"Margaret, you're really lucky to have such a capable daughter," Alexis praised, holding Margaret's hand with a flattering smile.
Several other middle-aged women also flattered Margaret. After all, she was now a wealthy lady, and her daughter Mary, the chairman, had connections with a major company like Crescent Investment Group.
At that moment, Chloe interjected, "By the way, I just heard Mr. Kingsley say the big boss's last name is Jones?"
All the relatives immediately perked up.
Mary shook her head, "I don't know either. It's the first time I've heard that."
As she said this, Mary glanced suspiciously at William.
Inigo laughed. "Don't forget, we got a Mr. Jones right here too. Ain't that right, William?"
As soon as he said that, everyone shot William dirty looks.
How could he be the Mr. Jones with billions in the bank?
What a joke!
"If William's that Mr. Jones, I'll kneel down and apologize," Chloe sneered, looking down on William.
"You really will have to kneel down and apologize," William said, his face calm but his eyes icy.
"What? Are you kidding me? You think you're Mr. Jones? Loser!" Chloe jumped up, pointing at William's nose, almost ready to slap him.
Inigo, backing up his wife, shoved William and cursed, "Loser! Don't be shameless. This was all Mary's doing. What does it have to do with you? How could you possibly be that Mr. Jones? His family's got billions, and can invest a hundred million at the drop of a hat. Can you?"
Inigo was disgusted by William's act, thinking, 'Does he really think he's somebody? He's just a nobody!'
"What if I said I do?" William shot back, glaring at Inigo. He regretted helping this family.
A burst of laughter erupted, and everyone found it hilarious.
"So, you're saying you're that Mr. Jones?" Chloe mocked, her face wrinkled from laughing, her eyes filled with disdain.
"I can't take it. This is too funny. Margaret, is William delusional?" someone scoffed.
"He's an idiot, really embarrassing, such a buzzkill!" a woman chimed in.
"Yeah, same last name Jones, but this one is just shameless," someone echoed.
They all laughed heartily, mocking William.
In their eyes, William was just a joke.
William, however, stood there calmly, watching them make fools of themselves, feeling helpless.
He sneered inwardly but didn't spill the truth.
He knew that whatever he said now would be pointless. He was used to scenes like this, so it was better to avoid unnecessary drama.
Meanwhile, Chloe sat next to Mary, asking, "Mary, why did Mr. Jones agree to invest just because you made a call? And a hundred million dollars! You said you didn't know him?"
"Yeah, Mary, be honest, are you hiding something from us?" a relative piped in.
"Exactly, Mr. Jones helped you immediately, isn't that because he likes you?" another relative echoed.
Margaret got excited hearing this and muttered, "Mary, do you know him? If you do, bring him home for dinner someday. He's such a wealthy young man. You must seize the opportunity. It won't come again!"
Meanwhile, Margaret gave a disdainful look at William standing beside her, sarcastically saying, "Unlike someone who contributes nothing to this family and just talks a lot."
William came from a rich family, but Margaret hadn't told them about the bankruptcy because she didn't want them to change their opinion about William.
Even with his good temper, William couldn't stand so many people mocking him, and his face turned grim.
Mary quickly stood up and said, "Alright, stop it. Mom, don't overthink it. I really haven't met Mr. Jones. I don't know about this either. I'll find out later."
With that, she pulled William out the door.
Mary stood at the door, fuming, and said, "I'm so mad. How can they say that about you? You're my husband!"
William smiled, looking at Mary pouting with her arms crossed. He walked over, pinched her rosy lips, and said, "Don't be mad. You look like a duck."
Mary rolled her eyes at him and said, "How can I not be mad? If they weren't elders, I would have cursed them out!"
Suddenly, a voice came from not far away.
"Ms. Smith."
Mary turned her head and saw a middle-aged man in a gray suit getting out of a black Mercedes.
"Mr. Kingsley? What are you doing here?" Mary asked, shocked. The man running over was Lucius, the head of Crescent Investment Group!
Lucius, with a smiling face, ran over and directly extended his hand toward William, saying, "Mr. ..."
