Chapter 122 The Porcelain Is Worth Six Million Dollars!
William knew that the side he had just shown at BK Pharmaceuticals was too strong and cold.
It was understandable that Mary would be suspicious.
The current problem was how to explain it to Mary.
To reveal his true identity?
William would never do that.
Jessica was already in Lindwood City, and William still didn't know what her plan was.
Jessica wouldn't come to Lindwood City for no reason. She definitely had a purpose.
The agreement he had made with that woman back then was too restrictive.
If it weren't for adhering to that agreement to protect the people he wanted to protect, William would have done whatever he wanted by now.
"Mary, do you really want to know?" William asked with a frown.
Having hesitated for a moment, Mary nodded and said, "I want to know about your past. I always feel like you're different from the William I know. Were you always like that before?"
William quickly shook his head and lied, "No."
If Mary knew about the ridiculous and arrogant things he had done in the past, she would probably go crazy.
After a moment of silence, William organized his words and said, "Susan's family and mine are old friends. And we had an arranged engagement long ago. But I always saw her as a sister, so on the day of the engagement, I had a big fight with my dad and then ran away from home. I didn't expect Susan to hate me for seven years. Are all you women so vengeful?"
William's words were half-true.
After hearing his explanation, Mary accepted it and said, "But it was an engagement party, and you just left without a word. You didn't even leave any explanation. If I were her, I would hate you for seven years too. Maybe I'd even want to kill you."
At this moment, Mary suddenly felt some sympathy for Susan. Susan was a pitiful woman.
She didn't expect William to have been such a jerk before.
"By the way, William, when will you take me to meet your parents? Since your parents arranged this engagement for you, do they particularly favor Susan? If they find out about me and Sarah, will they not accept us?" Mary couldn't help but get nervous, her voice getting lower and lower.
Mary was really worried that William's parents wouldn't accept her.
Even if they didn't accept her, they had to accept Sarah.
She was their granddaughter.
William squinted his eyes at the changes in Mary's facial expressions. Suddenly he laughed, saying, "What are you thinking? Don't worry. You're my wife, and Sarah is my daughter. They won't reject you. Even if they do, it doesn't matter. As long as the three of us are together, we'll be happy."
This was the simple happiness William wanted.
It was also what he had been seeking when he fled that home seven years ago.
Mary rolled her eyes at him and said, "Your thought is quite simple. I just want Sarah to have a better life. Even if your parents don't accept me, as long as they accept Sarah, that's enough."
This is the deepest love of a mother.
William patted Mary on the shoulder. Holding her close in his arms, he said, "Don't worry, I've got everything covered."
With that, Mary slowly leaned on William's shoulder, imagining the scene of reuniting with William's parents as a family.
She had to start preparing soon.
Mary decided to work hard. She needed to strive for something that would earn William's parents' approval.
Running Polaris Sky Restaurant, William's family must be wealthy, and his parents would definitely place great importance on their daughter-in-law's upbringing, manners, and social status.
No wonder Susan would become William's fiancée.
Susan was indeed excellent, with a privileged background, a pretty face, and a strong personality. She was a perfect candidate to be William's wife, to manage the family or the restaurant in the future.
Thinking of this, Mary couldn't help but feel inferior again. She started to feel down.
William didn't notice this and happily said, "By the way, Mary, are you free tomorrow night? I'll wait for you at your company."
Mary was taken aback. Looking at William's mysterious expression, she asked in confusion, "Yes. What are you planning?"
William gave a sly smile and said, "It's a secret. You'll find out then."
The two of them joked around for a while and then returned to the hospital to spend some time with Sarah.
Sarah would undergo surgery three days later.
Charles was already prepared. Every day, he would come to check on Sarah, continuously optimizing the surgical plan and the post-operative recovery process.
Unexpectedly, in the evening, Margaret called William back with numerous phone calls.
As soon as he walked in, William felt the cold atmosphere in the room.
Margaret was sitting on the sofa. Clearly, she was terribly mad.
"Mom, what's wrong? Who made you so angry?" William asked cautiously.
Margaret immediately grabbed a prepared mop and started hitting William with it, scolding him fiercely, "You useless fool. Look at what you've done. You insisted on giving away that ring. Do you know how much that ring is worth?"
William couldn't fight back against Margaret and could only take the beating.
After a few hits, Margaret got tired, pointed at William, and snapped, "You really pissed me off. How did our family end up with such a useless son-in-law like you?"
Margaret was, of course, very angry. A treasure worth a dozen million dollars was given away by William so carelessly.
She didn't get it back definitely. At the Turners' place, she was scolded by Roy and told to get out.
On the way back, she was humiliated and mocked by Dorothy.
As soon as she got home, Margaret was mad and called William back.
She needed to vent her anger.
William understood that the Turner family had found out the ring's value.
What should he do now?
Did they suspect his identity?
"Mom, what's going on? What do you mean by a dozen million dollars?" William asked, pretending to be innocent.
Seeing him like this, Margaret got even angrier and cursed, "You useless fool. You know nothing. Get out. Just get out. I'm so furious to see you!"
Margaret was in a rage, and William didn't want to stay any longer. He turned to leave.
But before he could take a few steps, Margaret suddenly commanded, "Wait. Come back here."
"Mom, what is it?" William asked.
Margaret thought for a moment and asked, "Did you really buy that ring by accident from the Antique Market?"
Margaret still didn't believe it.
"Yes, I bought it along with the painting I got for Dad last time. Is it valuable?" William pretended to be excited.
"Of course, you idiot. It's not just valuable. Mr. Ingram said it's worth a dozen million." Margaret felt heartbroken again. She slumped onto the sofa, crying and throwing a tantrum.
After a while, Margaret got up and couldn't help but grab William's hand, saying, "Let's go. Take me to the Antique Market. We'll buy a few more."
William was stunned and finally understood Margaret's intention.
Did Margaret think he was an expert?
"Mom, I just bought it randomly," William said helplessly.
Margaret was really impulsive and greedy.
Margaret wasn't listening at all, her mind filled with the thought of a dozen million dollars. She snapped, "Are you going or not? If you don't, get out of my house. I'll make Mary divorce you."
'What does he mean? Does he not listen to me?' thought Margaret.
Seeing Margaret's sharp and aggressive look, William had no choice but to nod and say, "Fine, I'll go. But I don't have any money right now."
Hearing that he needed money, Margaret recoiled, her eyes warily fixed on William as she asked, "How much do you need?"
William thought for a moment and casually said, "A few hundred dollars."
"So much? You're not trying to scam me, are you?" Margaret shouted. Clearly, it would be too painful for her to give away a few hundred dollars.
William insisted that he really needed that much.
Margaret gritted her teeth, made up her mind, ran back to her bedroom, and took out a few hundred dollars. She then urged William to hurry up and try their luck.
As soon as they went out, William left with the excuse of buying something and then dialed Rex's number.
On the other side of the line, Rex's respectful voice immediately came through. "Hello, Mr. Jones, what can I do for you?"
William didn't beat around the bush and said directly, "Are you familiar with the Antique Market?"
"Yes, I have quite a few friends there. What do you need, Mr. Jones? If you need anything, just tell me, and I'll get it for you," Rex said ingratiatingly.
"No, nothing..."
William then explained the situation to Rex. Rex admitted that he was partly responsible and shouldn't have revealed the ring's value so directly.
William didn't blame him but said, "Alright, let's meet at the Antique Market. You can help us pick something random to make Margaret happy. I'll pay you back later."
Rex wouldn't dare take William's money and quickly said, "Mr. Jones, no need to be so formal. Consider it a small gift for Margaret from me. Let's meet at the north gate of the Antique Market."
"Alright," William replied and hung up the phone only to hear Margaret's impatient voice behind him, "William, what are you doing? Hurry up. You're so useless. All the shilly-shally."
William had no choice but to reply that he was coming and then took Margaret to the Antique Market.
Upon arriving at the Antique Market and meeting Rex, they said something before Margaret started feeling annoyed about William.
"Alright, William, you can go back now. Mr. Ingram is here to help me." Margaret's eyes were now fixed on Rex. She was extremely excited. After all, he was an expert, much better than William.
William felt helpless, glanced at Rex, and politely asked, "Then I'll leave my mother-in-law to you, Mr. Ingram."
Rex smiled and waved his hand, saying, "No problem. I'll just take her around."
Rex seemed to be seven or eight years younger than Margaret.
Seeing Margaret follow Rex into the Antique Market, William had a bad feeling. He felt that something would go wrong, so he didn't leave immediately but stayed at the entrance to smoke a cigarette and wait.
Sure enough, less than ten minutes later, he received a call from Margaret.
The phone was filled with loud arguing.
"William, get over here now. These people are saying I broke one of their porcelain pieces and want me to pay five million dollars," Margaret said fiercely. Meanwhile, she was still in a heated argument with the shop owner.
