Chapter 50 How Could Mary Be Here?

Francis's face turned pale. "William, let's be reasonable. There's no need to take things to this extreme."
William remained silent, his gaze unwavering.
Francis, unable to contain his anger, snapped. "William, do not push me too far. I have spent numerous years in Lindwood City, and my net worth exceeds a billion. The individuals I am acquainted with are out of your league. Should you possess wisdom, let this matter rest. Otherwise, I shall not overlook your transgressions!"
He was genuinely furious. He had never suffered such a setback before, and he was already willing to compromise, but William remained unfazed.
William stayed silent.
"Fine, let's see how this plays out then!" Francis took out his phone and dialed a number. "Rex, you have to help me. This guy is out to get me!"
On the other end of the line, Rex Armstrong sat in his study, his expression dark. "Give him the phone. I'll talk to him."
Francis's eyes narrowed as he handed the phone to William. "It's for you," he said, a hint of a sneer on his face.
Francis knew that with Rex's involvement, he would be safe. He couldn't believe anyone could stand up to Rex!
So, he added, "William, I hope you make the right decision."
William calmly took the phone and put it to his ear.
A sardonic laugh came from the other end. "William, what's the meaning of this? If Francis or his son have done anything wrong, I apologize on their behalf. How about that?"
William replied calmly, "Rex, how do you think it will turn out if I bring up the evidence of your corruption and malpractice?"
There was no warning.
William's words hit Rex Armstrong like a heavy blow to the chest!
Rex was taken aback. He knew himself! He knew about all the things he had done!
Rex jumped up from his seat, his voice rising and his eyes cold. "William, your baseless accusations are defamatory."
"03762," William said, looking at another phone, each digit pronounced clearly.
On the other end of the line, Rex Armstrong, upon hearing the string of numbers, slumped back in his chair, his eyes filled with fear. Cold sweat beaded on his forehead.
How could this be? This was his Swiss bank account number! Not even his wife knew about it!
But now, someone had found out about it! What kind of power and influence did this guy have?
It was clear that he had long known about his dealings with Francis.
"William, I think we still have room for negotiation," Rex Armstrong said, his legs trembling, his voice filled with panic and a hint of pleading. "How about this? I won't be involved with Francis anymore. Can we meet?"
"Too late," William calmly replied, then handed the phone back to Francis.
Francis's face contorted in a cold smile. He didn't know what was being discussed on the phone, but his past experience told him that as long as his backer intervened, nothing was impossible.
When he took the call, he said, "Rex, it seems that you've settled things."
However, there was a loud bang from the other end of the phone.
"Rex, you are suspected of corruption, bribery, and abuse of power. You are officially under arrest. Please cooperate with our investigation and come with us!"
Then there was the sound of the phone hitting the ground.
It hit Francis's heart.
Arrested?
How could this happen so suddenly? This was his backer!
Francis felt as if his spine had been ripped out, and he sat down on the ground, looking at William in panic and confusion. He stammered, "What… what did you do?"
William didn't deny it. He looked at the time and sent a text message to George "Time's up."
Just four simple words, and George, who was already prepared, immediately dialed a number.
And then, in just three minutes, Francis received a series of urgent calls.
"Mr. King, something's wrong. Angel Investors has withdrawn their investment of 20 million dollars!"
"Mr. King, I'm in New York now. Our Series B financing has failed!"
"Mr. King, it's bad. The Industrial and Commercial Bureau and the Economic Crime Division are investigating us! What should we do?"
One piece of bad news after another!
Francis sat paralyzed on the ground, his face pale.
It was over, all over!
"Dad, what's going on? Dad, say something." Adam was terrified by his father's appearance.
Francis erupted, punching and kicking Adam, cursing. "You've killed me! You ungrateful brat! I'll beat you to death!"
The scene was chaotic.
Francis beat his son Adam until the police arrived, and they were both taken away in a police car. Only after the police car left did the crowd look at William in awe.
He was simply amazing!
Melissa was extremely nervous. She never expected William to have such power! She had been right there the whole time, well aware of what William had done.
This man was becoming more and more mysterious!
The crowd dispersed and left the hotel. William found a place to smoke and relieve the pressure in his heart. However, at that moment, a familiar voice came from not far away.
"William, what are you doing here?"
William turned his head and saw Mary, her face filled with confusion, walking towards him with her bag.
There was a hint of displeasure on her face.
He was smoking again!
William hurriedly put out the cigarette and awkwardly said, "It's our company dinner, we're here to eat."
William felt a little flustered, thinking about what happened before Mary contacted his other phone, and he was worried.
Worried that his identity would be exposed.
Mary walked over, gave him a cold look, and asked, "Where's Sarah ?"
"Someone from the company is taking care of her. I'll go get her in a while," William said with a smile.
Suddenly, a familiar figure appeared in front of him.
"William, I didn't expect to see you here," Jeffery said as he came over from the parking lot.
The atmosphere between the two was tense, awkward, and hostile.
Mary also knew that the two of them were at odds because of her, so she coldly said to William, "You go ahead and pick Sarah up."
With that, she turned around and was about to leave.
William's face darkened, and he said coldly, "And what about you?"
Mary paused, turned around, and said, "I have something to discuss with Jeffery. I might be back later tonight. Take care of Sarah."
She'd be back late? How late did she mean?
'I'm your husband. What does it mean for you to come to Victory Grand Hotel with Jeffery in front of me?' William thought.
'Don't you know that Jeffery and I have a conflict?'
William was a little angry, his expression stiff.
Jeffery, on the other hand, seemed to intentionally provoke him. He patted William on the shoulder and said, "William, go back quickly. I still have something to discuss with Mary. Don't worry, I'll make sure she gets home safely."
William immediately pushed Jeffery's arm away, stared at him coldly, and said, "Jeffery, I warn you, don't get any ideas! Otherwise, you'll regret it for sure!"
"William, what are you doing?"
Mary pulled William away, looking displeased. She commanded, "You have no business here, so go home."
William was taken aback. He didn't expect Mary to side with Jeffery, and his heart sank.
But he couldn't bring himself to hate Mary.
So, he pointed at Jeffery and cursed, "What are you up to? Let's talk about it here. Don't think I don't know what you're up to. I'm Mary's husband, and you can forget about it!"
Mary slapped William in the face. "Are you crazy? Do you know what I was talking to Jeffery about? Stop being suspicious and paranoid all the time."
Tears welled up in Mary's eyes as she tried hard to control her emotions.
She was here to borrow money for Sarah's treatments. William just didn't understand her.
At that moment, Jeffery sneered. "William, I really overestimated you. I don't expect you to be such a loser! Making Mary cry for you, you're an awful man. I really don't understand how someone like you deserves to be Mary's husband and Sarah's father!"
In the past, Jeffery and William were two people who could talk about anything. They were very close friends.
But in the past three or four years, everything has changed. Former friends became enemies.
"Alright, that's enough!" Mary shouted.
Then, she turned her face and looked at William, saying coldly, "William, I'm very disappointed in you!"
William forced a bitter smile. He knew his position in Mary's heart.
He was a loser.
'But am I really a loser?
'Mary, you probably don't know that your husband is the richest man in the world!
'His family owns 70% of the world's wealth!
'Stomp your foot, and the economy of an entire country would move for you.'
"Mary, I know that you have always thought of me as a loser. In these years, I haven't given you and Sarah a good life. It's all my fault," William said. "But today, I want to tell you that I am not a loser! I will prove it to you now! Money? Status? I have it all!"
With that, William turned and walked towards the parking lot.
There, there were a hundred BMW motorcycles, and a hundred riders!
Mary witnessed this scene, and her heart clenched.
What was he going to do?
If anything happened, she definitely couldn't bear it.
Mary caught up with him and shouted, "William, are you crazy?"
