Chapter 449 The Storm is Coming!
Something bad was definitely brewing!
"Really? You just arrest me whenever you feel like it and let me go whenever you want?" William sneered, his eyes practically dripping with sarcasm as he stared at Zander like he was the biggest idiot on the planet.
Zander was totally thrown off.
William kept going, "You guys drag me in here, without asking a single question, and now you're just gonna let me go? Doesn't that make me look like a fool?"
Zander was floored. He didn't see that coming, and it seemed like William had no plans to leave. What was this guy's deal?
Just a bit ago at Dawn's Delight, William didn't want to come. Now, when Zander was telling him to leave, he was sticking around. Was this some kind of joke?
But Zander had a hunch that William was someone important, so even though he was fuming, he kept it in check.
"Why aren't you leaving? Staying here won't be a walk in the park. If I change my mind, you won't be able to leave even if you want to. The Gonzales family isn't as simple as you think!" Zander said, his voice tinged with urgency.
"The Gonzales family?" William's eyes flashed with mockery. "Do you think I care about them? I trashed their old house back then, and no one dared to touch me. You think they can do anything to me now?"
William waved his hand dismissively, his eyes full of ridicule.
Zander saw the handcuffs and felt a chill run down his spine.
"I've told you before, and I hope you don't regret it later," William said, leaning back with a nonchalant look. "The Gonzales family means nothing to me. I could crush them with a snap of my fingers. But there's one thing I want to know: who's behind all this?"
Zander was momentarily stunned.
"Don't freak out. I know it's not just Thelonious; there's gotta be others," William said coldly. "Spill the truth, and I might let you live."
"What are you talking about?" Zander asked, realizing he was completely outmatched. This was his turf, and he had a gun. But William wasn't scared at all, while he was a nervous wreck.
"You know exactly what I mean. If you did something, you gotta face the consequences. Don't act all surprised," William said, staring Zander down. "If you don't talk, you'll end up like Isaiah."
Zander was so scared he plopped down on the cold chair. He wanted to bolt, but his legs felt like jelly, and he couldn't even stand up!
To his surprise, William didn't press further. He just sat there, coldly smiling at him.
"Still not gonna tell the truth?" William asked.
Trembling, Zander asked, "What do you want? Isn't letting you go enough?"
William's mouth curled into a smile. "Tell me who's behind you, and I'll leave. But right now, I'm waiting for someone."
"Waiting for someone?" Zander blurted out.
William didn't answer but raised an eyebrow as he looked at the black glass in front of him. He knew the puppet master might be behind that glass. He wanted to send a message. If they didn't know their place, he wouldn't mind teaching them a lesson!
Meanwhile, Jeffery was chilling in his office, sipping on some tea. It was getting late, and he figured things were wrapping up. He glanced at his watch, then pulled out his phone and dialed a number.
"Mr. Gonzales, hey there," Jeffery said, grinning as he took another sip.
Thelonious was back in his hotel suite, lounging on the sofa. He spoke respectfully, "Mr. Gray, thanks a ton for today."
"Don't mention it. I'm in this with you till the end," Jeffery said confidently. "William's not slipping away this time. The evidence we've got will lock him up for decades."
Thelonious nodded, feeling a lot more relaxed. "Mr. Gray, I really appreciate it. I've got a gift lined up for you. Hope you like it. Let's grab a meal together sometime."
Jeffery's smile widened. He was thrilled. This was a small effort for him, but it was paying off big time, building a good relationship with Thelonious and getting some nice rewards. Totally worth it!
'William, you're toast this time!' Jeffery thought smugly. He'd been plotting this for a while, finally roping in Thelonious to use the Gonzales family against William.
After hanging up with Jeffery, Thelonious called Zander. "Zander, no matter what, you need to break William. Use any means necessary, torture him, make sure he can't bounce back!" Thelonious ordered coldly.
"Mr. Gonzales, I've got a bit of a situation here," Zander said, lowering his voice.
Thelonious, not aware of something off, snapped, "What situation? You've already got him. If you can't handle it, you're out of the family!"
With that, Thelonious hung up.
Zander held his phone, his expression shifting, caught in a tough spot. Now, he and William had completely switched roles. But William wasn't nervous at all; he just sat there, looking at Zander and said, "You hung up too fast."
Zander forced a smile and instinctively glanced at the large glass wall beside him. He was in a real bind.
After a moment of hesitation, Zander nodded to his two subordinates. They exchanged a look and quickly left the room. Now, it was just William and Zander. William's expression stayed cool the whole time.
"It's about the time. They should be here soon," William said, smiling slightly, his eyes cold. 'The Gonzales family, get ready for the storm!' William thought.
Behind the large glass wall stood three people, two of them Zander's subordinates from earlier. The other was a bald man with his hands behind his back, Santino.
"Santino, what do we do?" one of the subordinates asked, worried.
Santino's eyes showed a hint of disdain, and he sneered, "Let's see who he's waiting for."
