Chapter 93 A Lavish Gift
When Mary's voice was heard, William's face turned extremely gloomy, and he stared at Susan.
But Susan just smiled knowingly at William and said, "Hello, Mary. It's Susan Garcia."
There was silence on the other end of the line.
"What do you want with me?" Mary was known for her temper. Her voice was cold and tinged with anger.
Susan didn't rush to answer but looked at William and said softly, "Have you ever thought about how Mary would react if she knew your identity?"
William clenched his fists, his gaze icy and intense. His voice was low and menacing, like the growl of a wild beast. "Susan, you’re playing with fire!"
William was both nervous and furious. He hated being threatened.
"William, you know me, right? The more thrilling the game, the more I love it." Susan raised her chin, her eyes filled with provocation.
Then she spoke into her phone, "Mary, what kind of person do you think William is?"
What kind of person was William?
Mary was taken aback but quickly replied, "Ms. Garcia, I don't know you, but if this is about my husband, we can talk face-to-face. I'll do my best to meet any conditions you have, but let me warn you—don't even think about breaking up William and me."
Mary's warning clearly caught Susan off guard. Her expression froze, her brows furrowing proudly and coldly.
Susan replied coldly, "Mary, I don’t think you know your husband very well. Do you know about his past? Do you know his family?"
"What do you mean?" Mary asked, puzzled and unable to grasp Susan's meaning.
However, Susan's words left Mary feeling uneasy and doubtful. She was right—Mary didn’t know much about William’s life before college. She only knew what he had told her and she had barely met any of his old friends. Even William’s family and what his parents did was something she only recently started to learn about.
Was it really as simple as William had said—just running away from home?
Mary was confused and her voice wavered with uncertainty.
"If you want to know about William’s past, come to Polaris Sky Restaurant tonight," Susan said calmly, her eyes never leaving William.
There was a moment of silence on the other end before a simple "Okay" came through.
After hanging up, Susan stood proudly in front of William, her face radiating triumph. "You don’t seem very nervous," she remarked.
William frowned. "What are you planning?" he asked.
He hadn't acted earlier, waiting to see what Susan would do next.
If she did it for real, William would stop at nothing to put an end to all this.
Susan smiled and her fair hand gently stroked William's rugged face with eyes full of affection. "It's simple. Have dinner with me tonight. We haven't had a meal together in seven years."
Dinner with her?
William was annoyed!
"No way! You're forcing me!" William roared.
Susan smiled coldly. "It's your choice. It's just one meal. Why so tense? Are you afraid of your wife finding out?"
Then, Susan didn't say a word, waiting for William's answer.
After a while, William replied, "Fine. I agree, but I warn you. If you dare tell Mary anything about me, you'll regret it!"
Later, William turned around and stormed off in anger.
Susan stood alone in the office, watching him leave with heartache.
'Why?'
'Why do you only have that bitch in your eyes?'
'Am I, Susan, not as good as her?'
Back at the hospital, William and Mary happened to meet at the door of the ward.
Mary gave William a cold look, and he smiled slightly, making way for her.
The two looked at each other in silence.
Mary didn't mention the phone call to William because she wanted to handle it herself.
William didn't ask either and the two remained silent, starting a cold war.
In the evening, William took Mary home. On the way, Mary seemed very tired and said, "I'll stay at my moms' for a few days."
"Why go to your mom's?" William seemed a little flustered.
Mary didn't say a word and turned her head, obviously not wanting to talk to William.
William was also helpless.
It wasn't that he didn't want to explain, but he didn't know how.
Would she accept the truth about who he really was?
Or was she ready to be the richest woman in the world?
"Mary, believe me, I really have nothing to do with Susan," William suddenly said.
Unfortunately, Mary didn't say a word. Her expression was cold and her eyes closed as if she didn't want to talk to him.
When they arrived at the Smith Family Mansion, the two got out of the car, one after the other. William wanted to help Mary with her bag but was also rejected.
"Mom, I'm staying here for a few days," Mary said as she entered, changed her shoes, and went straight to the bedroom, slamming the door.
Margaret stood in the living room, looking confused. She turned, her face changing as she stared at William, "Did you bully our Mary?"
Mary came back with a bad face and said she wanted to stay at home for a few days.
There must have been a quarrel with William.
She was just worried that she wouldn't have a chance to get them divorced and now she did.
"Mom, I don't. Maybe Mary is just tired these days," William explained.
However, Margaret didn't believe it at all. With a cold expression, she pointed at William and yelled, "Do you think I don't know my daughter? William, please don't say I didn't warn you. You're not good enough for my Mary. If you have any sense, you'll divorce her soon and let her marry into a rich family!"
William looked helpless in the face of Margaret's harsh words.
Not only was Mary upset, but William was also feeling miserable. Now, with Margaret Turner's accusations, he couldn't help but snap.
"Alright, I get it. Can you please stop? This is between Mary and me. We'll handle it ourselves."
William said coldly, with a piercing look that made Margaret shiver.
Margaret was immediately annoyed. How dare William speak to her like that, he was really asking for it!
"William, is that how you speak to me? Are you getting bold now, not even respecting your mother-in-law? Fine, you're so great, huh? Get out of my house! Get out!"
Margaret unreasonably started pushing William.
It was unbelievable. The son-in-law was actually daring to be rude to his mother-in-law.
William got fed up and he pushed Margaret hard with a flick of his hand.
Margaret stumbled backward and fell hard on the floor. She began to cry out loudly, "Tyler, come and see this! Your good son-in-law hit me! I can't stay in this house anymore!"
William was shocked and quickly tried to help her up. "Mom, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to."
"What do you mean! You do it on purpose!"
Margaret pointed at William, cursing with a sharp tongue.
The commotion outside naturally caught Tyler's attention in his study and Mary's attention in her bedroom. They were furious when they both came out to see what was happening.
Tyler came up and gave William a hard slap, cursing, "You dare to hit your mother. I don't have a son-in-law like you. Get out of here now!"
Mary hurried over as well, helping Margaret up while glaring at William. "Get out of my house right now! I don't want to see you!"
Facing the wrath of the three, William Jones had no way to explain.
He looked at Mary for a long time, then turned and left.
Mary's heart suddenly ached when she saw William turn around. She wanted to go after him, but Margaret grabbed her arm directly and said, "Mary, is my coccyx broken? Take me to the hospital."
How could Margaret not hear that Mary was just angry when she told William to leave?
Now, there was no way she would let her daughter chase after him.
This misunderstanding, the bigger, the better.
Mary was anxious, torn between her mother and William.
"Don't worry, Mom. I'll take you to the hospital now."
With no other choice, Mary decided to prioritize her mother. After all, if something really happened to her, William couldn't bear the responsibility either.
Just as the three of them were about to leave, a well-dressed man appeared at the door.
"Hello, is this Margaret Turner's residence?" The man was all smiles.
"Yes, I'm Margaret Turner," Margaret Turner replied, feigning pain convincingly while being supported by Mary Smith.
"Nice to meet you, Ma'am. Miss Susan Garcia asked me to bring these over." The man smiled.
Then, seven or eight men in black suits carried things directly into the house.
All high-end luxury gifts!
Gold necklaces, jade bracelets, black pearls, and several paintings for Tyler!
There were also two boxes of cash, a full two million!
Plus, a car key for a Maserati.
Margaret was completely shocked by the gifts that were being brought in one by one!
Mary was also stunned!
"This young man, are these all for our family?"
Margaret's legs went weak with fright, and she stammered in excitement, her eyes fixed on the gifts.
Especially the two million, real money!
"Yes, Ma'am. These are all from Miss Garcia for you," the man said with a smile.
Suddenly, Margaret couldn't stand still. All of these were actually given to her!
But Mary's face turned very sour.
She already guessed who sent these.
"Excuse me, who is Susan Garcia? Do I know her?" Margaret was not completely dumb. She hurriedly grabbed the man's hand and asked excitedly.
The man replied, "Miss Garcia is Mr. William Jones's friend."
