Chapter 65 The Arrogant In-Laws

"Actually, the doctor I found is Professor Charles."
William decided it was time to reveal the truth.
Upon hearing this, Mary, who was about to search on her phone, abruptly stopped, and she looked at William incredulously.
He had contacted Professor Charles?
After a brief shock, Mary's expression became somewhat subtle, and she coldly addressed William. "William can you stop fooling around?"
Mary naturally couldn't believe what William was saying was true.
Professor Charles, a giant in the medical field, a legendary cardiologist.
Could William, with his reputation, really have made contact with such a renowned medical professor, known both domestically and internationally?
Thus, Mary assumed William was merely trying to comfort her.
"Mary, believe me, I really did contact Professor Charles." William tried to explain.
But suddenly, a mocking sneer came from behind.
"William, you really know how to brag. You contacting Charles? Even if you want to comfort Mary, you don't need to go that far, do you?"
Jeffery, who had left, returned with a mocking expression and strode in.
Then, completely ignoring William, he sat down on the couch with an arrogant look and said, "Mary, I've already arranged everything for Sarah 's surgery. Charles will make time to come and see her in the next few days. If possible, I'll arrange for Sarah to be admitted to the hospital tomorrow."
Was Jeffery feeling smug?
Absolutely.
He had finally persuaded Charles to make time for a visit, naturally wanting to show off in front of Mary.
And look at that good-for-nothing William, just bragging, truly shameless.
Could Professor Charles be contacted by someone like him, a good-for-nothing?
William's face showed a slight displeasure; he had been enduring Jeffery for quite some time.
But he had always refrained from acting against him, out of the brotherly bond they once shared and for the sake of Sarah.
If he really got on William's bad side, William could make Jeffery and his family go bankrupt with just one word.
However, he couldn't do that.
But a small lesson was still possible.
After hearing what Jeffery said, Mary's face lit up with joy, and she hurriedly got off the sickbed to sit on the couch, gratefully saying, "Jeffery, thank you so much, I don't even know what to say."
She shed tears of joy. The pressure on Mary's heart suddenly lightened.
Jeffery, feeling triumphant, glanced at William and deliberately taunted him. "I just heard you say you contacted Professor Charles, William? Do you really think that just because Charles spoke up for you this morning, you could get him to treat Sarah?"
"Why not?" William calmly retorted.
This remark made Mary glare at him angrily, saying, "William, what are you doing? Since Jeffery has already helped us make the arrangements, can you please stop lying here?"
Mary was somewhat dissatisfied with William's attitude.
Couldn't he just say thank you?
"Alright, William, since you say so, why don't I call Charles to check?" Jeffery said with a sly smile, his eyes full of mockery.
As he spoke, Jeffery took out his phone, pretending to make the call.
William appeared indifferent.
However, Mary was anxious.
William might not mind losing face, but she did. She quickly said, "Jeffery, don't call. You know what William is like. By the way, do I need to meet Charles in person, to prepare some gifts for him?" Seeing Mary's face, Jeffery relented, casting a contemptuous glance at William, his eyes clearly provocative.
He said, "It's alright, I'll handle things with Charles. If we really want to thank him, we'll wait until he has assessed Sarah 's condition. There's no rush."
As Jeffery and Mary started chatting, William furrowed his brows and didn't bother explaining any further.
Before long, the voice of Margaret, sounding upset, came from the doorway. "Mary, Dorothy is here to see you."
As she entered, Margaret's face was sullen, her complexion not good at all.
As if someone owed her millions.
Indeed, Margaret came in leading Mary's aunt, and upon seeing William, she immediately directed her anger toward him, seemingly looking for trouble, and scolded him. "You good-for-nothing, what are you doing here again? Get out, I get annoyed just seeing you."
William had done nothing but was still insulted.
Behind Margaret, a middle-aged woman in her forties or fifties, dressed fashionably with a slightly plump figure, carrying a red LV bag, adorned with jade bracelets and gold chains, and sporting a stylish haircut, walked in.
As soon as she entered, the aura emanating from her was one of wealth!
She completely overshadowed the ordinary Margaret.
This was Margaret's second sister, William and Mary's aunt Dorothy.
Margaret had never liked her second sister.
Every time they met, they would be jealous and quarrel over trivial matters.
Dorothy's daughter had married well and was running a company, and had status in society. Naturally, her own status rose as well, and she lived a carefree life.
From her attire and accessories, it was clear she liked to show off.
She wished to wear all her wealth on her body, making everyone envious.
Now, as soon as Dorothy entered, she sneered and gave William a look, saying sarcastically, "Oh, isn't this my nephew-in-law William? How are you doing these days? I heard you've changed careers to delivering food. How much do you earn a month? Still living in that small 70-80 square meter apartment? When are you going to move to a bigger place? If you want to change, just talk to Gordon. Gordon's family sells houses; he can give you a good deal."
As she spoke, she touched her freshly styled hair, deliberately showing off the jade bracelet on her wrist.
"Gordon, really, I told him not to buy it, but he insisted on getting this jade bracelet for me. It cost him forty thousand dollars."
Dorothy prattled on, seeing her sister Margaret's face turning livid, and she mockingly covered her mouth and laughed. "I forgot, Margaret, has William ever bought you any gifts?"
Arrogant, smug, mocking.
From the moment she walked in, Dorothy exuded an air of disdain for others.
Margaret trembled with anger, glaring fiercely at William, and cursed. "I've been cursed for eight lifetimes to have a good-for-nothing son-in-law like you. You've completely disgraced me."
William had nothing to say.
The atmosphere was awkward.
Mary was unhappy. Her aunt had always looked down on her family, simply because she thought William was very much a good-for-nothing, incomparable to her own successful son-in-law.
So, Dorothy would come to visit from time to time, claiming to see her sister, but actually, she was just there to show off and sneer.
Mary could do nothing about such relatives because of the generational hierarchy.
"Aunt Dorothy, why are you here?" Mary interrupted Dorothy, smiling.
Dorothy, commanding the room with her presence, sat down with a laugh, saying, " I heard you were hospitalized so I came to see you."
Everyone knew the true intentions behind her actions.
She came to see Mary under false pretenses, but in reality, she was here to show off.
Didn't they see her placing that LV bag on her lap, constantly fiddling with it, as if she wanted everyone to know she had bought an LV bag?
At that moment, Dorothy noticed Jeffery and pointedly asked Margaret. "Margaret, who is this?"
Margaret, as if suddenly finding a chance to boast, quickly pushed William away, giving him an angry glare, and then, with a smile, introduced Jeffery. "This is Jeffery, his family is quite well-off. He deals in jade, earning millions a year. He's a good friend of Mary's."
Hearing this, Dorothy's eyes shone as she stared at Jeffery.
But seeing Margaret's animated expression, Dorothy's smug look cooled down.
The two old women had been at odds for years; who didn't understand whom?
This was probably a promising son-in-law Margaret had her eye on.
Right away, Dorothy feigned politeness and smiled. "The young man looks decent."
But inside, she cursed Margaret, thinking she still aspired to catch a wealthy husband.
Your daughter Mary is already married and has a child. Who would want a woman like that?
But she couldn't say it out loud.
Thinking this, she disdainfully glanced at William standing beside her, her eyes full of mockery.
William was truly too much of a good-for-nothing, he might even lose his wife.
Seeing her sister's mood souring, Margaret immediately felt elated, finally turning the tables. She pulled Jeffery over and said, "What are you waiting for? Call her aunt."
Jeffery quickly smiled and said, "Aunt Dorothy."
Dorothy, like a cat whose tail had been stepped on, bristled and stood up, saying, "No, no, no, you can't call me that. That would be a mess. You're not my nephew-in-law, you can't just call me that."
Suddenly, the atmosphere in the hospital room became awkward.
Dorothy's words were undoubtedly a slap in Margaret's face, loud and clear.
"Margaret, I think William is not bad, he's willing to endure hardship. You should scold him less in the future; after all, we're a family." Dorothy said without a care, standing.
If Margaret really snagged a wealthy husband for Mary, who would she show off to in the future?
So, she must not let Margaret's scheme succeed!
Suddenly, the hospital room was full of tension.
Dorothy, seeing her sister's face turn red with anger, quickly changed the subject, asking, "By the way, our father's seventieth birthday is coming up in a few days, are you going back to see him?"
If they went back, they would surely face a barrage of sarcasm and ridicule from the whole family.
Thinking about it, Dorothy felt secretly thrilled.
"We're not going back," Margaret said resentfully.
"Not going back? How can that be, Margaret? Even if you're angry with our father, you can't just skip his birthday celebration. He's been missing you lately, always talking about you." Dorothy Jackson became anxious when her sister said she wouldn't go back.
She was looking forward to that day, when Margaret would bring the Smiths in front of the family and embarrass themselves.
However, at that moment, an untimely, faint voice came from the side.
"Dorothy, we'll be going back. Margaret is just joking," William suddenly said with a cheerful smile.
